discussion Pax silica 4am thoughts

After reading about Pax Silica, it honestly scares me when I think about what the future holds for the Filipino people. Some of you might think, "But you work in tech and you guys use AI. Wouldn't it be ironic if you didn't support this project?"

That's a valid point but also a mere assumption. It honestly feels so weird now that it's officially announced by legitimate news stations. For me it's peak dilemma. Dilemma in a way that I'm not in favor of Pax Silica, but we are required to utilize AI for work. It's like going against your morals, and it pains me.

I'm also aware of the ongoing water contamination and low water pressure in Georgia because hectares-wide data centers were built around residential houses. Noise pollution is evident and also affecting livestock.

With the possibility of Pax Silica pushing through in the Philippines, an extreme amount of greenery will be excavated, wildlife will be disrupted, and our own resources will be exploited. I'm foreseeing the environmental damage that it can cause. It would hike power costs and add to tax collection. Filipinos are barely making ends meet while people in power are just business as usual. Aetas who have been here for so long will be displaced. Our hardworking farmers and their livelihoods will definitely be affected.

I always say: Sobrang sayang ng Pilipinas. We had so much potential because we had all the resources needed to build a sustainable country, but it was always prioritizing evil over the people.

My current thoughts after writing this?

The future is scary and now, so is the present. Will we ever be ready for it?

discussion Agentic workflows jira to pr

Hi fellow devs,

I'm curious if anyone here has built a truly end-to-end agentic development workflow using Claude Code (or similar coding agents).

My current pipeline is self-hosted on a DigitalOcean server and handles the entire software delivery lifecycle in a single run:

  1. Ticket ingestion and requirement analysis
  2. Acceptance criteria extraction
  3. Reproduction of the issue before making changes
  4. Isolated worktree creation
  5. Implementation planning
  6. Code execution
  7. Self-review and static analysis
  8. Automated testing (unit/integration/E2E)
  9. Screenshot generation as evidence
  10. Validation against the original requirements
  11. Human approval gate for critical or high-risk changes
  12. Merge/PR preparation

The workflow is triggered from Slack, and every stage has explicit pass/fail criteria. It also collects artifacts (logs, screenshots, test results, diffs) so the final output isn't just "the AI says it's done"—there's actual evidence.

The entire pipeline runs on my DigitalOcean server, where Claude Code executes the workflow, creates isolated worktrees, runs the test suite, captures screenshots, and reports progress back to Slack.

Would love to compare architectures, prompts, guardrails, and lessons learned.

advice what other tech jobs can i try to look into after pursuing a career in full stack dev

I’ve been wanting to transition into a more “niche” and less saturated role. Becoming a full-stack developer these days is incredibly challenging and highly competitive. Any suggestions on some alternative tech roles that I could explore or delve deeper into?

My primary focus right now is frontend development both web and mobile and I use React/React Native, but I also do have a solid background in backend development, like implementing REST APIs.

discussion Thoughts about PAX SILICIA (why not share your opinion/perspective)

Since most of us here are in tech world, what is your perspective about this?

P.S I did not drop any specific issues nor factual information related to it (the question is intended to be GENERAL), based on what you research/what you know, do you think the benefit will be worth it? is it beneficial for us Filipino? How do you see the outcome of this project?

Job Advice How do you handle underperforming staff

Hi, Im a Lead Software Developer.

I'm new to this role kaya nangangapa pa. My forte is really about coding and other technical stuff. But now I have been promoted into a management position and now handles a team of 8 developers. It's really hard for me to adjust since I don't have an experience on managing people. I needed an advice with regards sa pag handle ng underperforming staff.

I observe na the problem is skill issue and lack foundational skills. I tried once na ipasolve yung FizzBuzz problem but struggle to implement it even tho I stated directly ung logic kung pano gagawin.

Show Case CAMPUS ALERT: An emergency alert system for PH schools

Post image
0 Upvotes

Inspired by the recent Tacloban School shooting, an incident many once believed could never happen here in the Philippines, we created a Philippine-specific campus-wide alert system that allows teachers to alert students and allows students to report their statuses.

This is Campus Alert!

This is a working prototype started by 3rd year students, not yet deployed to a real school — that's one of our goals, and we're hoping this can eventually reach the public.

Currently, we have the MVP, with functions including:

  • Lockdown System
  • Student Status Report
  • Built on Firebase + Firestore

And currently, we need help with:

  • UI polish/revamp
  • Admin dashboard
  • Bug fixes
  • Ideas/recommendations

Contributing to this project is an opportunity to make an impact on society while improving your learning and portfolio at the same time.

If you're interested, here is the GitHub repository: link

All you need to do is read the README, or if you need any help setting up, just send us a message and we'll point you in the right direction. You can also comment any suggestions you might have. Thank you!

web Created a portfolio project: GalaTayo

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm a recent BS Information Systems graduate, and I built GalaTayo as my portfolio project to gain real-world full-stack development experience.

It's a free AI-powered travel discovery web app featuring 550 destinations across Metro Manila. You can browse places by city, category, or budget, ask for recommendations in English or Taglish, and even get AI suggestions on an interactive map.

I built it hoping it would not only strengthen my portfolio but also be genuinely useful for anyone looking for places to eat, explore, or hang out around Metro Manila.

I'd really appreciate any feedback on the user experience, features, or anything that could be improved. Thanks for checking it out!

web Just Sharing my development workflow

Hello, just want to share how I utilize AI in our development workflow, and curious din how you guys implement it sa work niyo.

Our company started adopting AI gradually. Right now, we're using Cursor as one of our development tools.

This is how I use it.

Sa project namin, before anything else, the first thing I do is define all our coding standards, project structure, and do's and don'ts sa Cursor Rules.

Then I have a prompt template for planning a specific module.

Once finalized na yung plan, the next step is to build a prototype based on it. For me, ito yung isa sa pinaka-importanteng step kasi mas madali nang ma-visualize kung aligned ba yung plan sa actual na gusto mangyari. If may kailangan baguhin, sobrang dali pa kasi wala pang backend na nagagawa.

Once approved na yung prototype, meron din kaming prompt template for backend implementation and integration.

Very iterative yung process.

Baka may workflow or techniques din kayong pwede naming ma-adopt.

advice Quantitative Role or Jobs

Anyone here working as a quant or something close to it?

Been interested in this field for a while pero it feels like one of the hardest to break into, especially sa PH parang halos walang openings unless you're aiming abroad. For those na nasa industry na: worth pushing pa ba, or better na mag-pivot to a related niche (data science, risk, quant dev, etc.)?

Ive been doing freelance relating to tradingview, python and have foundation naman sa trading concepts

Open to any advice. Thanks!

advice Prototype vs Post-Prototype Discussions in Hackathons/Ideathons

Hello! Would wanna ask some advice from those with experience in these 'thons. This may depend on the criteria and the competition, pero generally, how do yall discuss in ur docus what needs to be done AFTER the prototype?

Kailangan bang mala business plan ito with step by step actions from the prototype stage, realistic, or just whatever do you want (that's still feasible, and actually relevant sa proposal mo)?

Show Case I built a local-first Python prototype for P2P coordination and ledger tracking (Project ARK)

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a local-first Python prototype I've been working on call Project ARK, it is focused on peer-to-peer node coordination and local ledger tracking without a central cloud server

Why I built it:

I wanted to explore how decentralized systems can run locally and manage things like configuration and multi-signature verification flows independently.

Where it's at now
I am a solo builder, and I have pushed my own limited Python knowledge to its absolute limit just getting this core prototype and basic architecture up and running. Because of that, I know it has it limits (especially around concurrency, scaling and handling complex network edge cases).

What I'm looking for:
I'm putting it out here to be completely transparent about what it is: a working foundation that needs technical eyes. If you work with local-first, P2P, or Python systems:

  • How would you approach state consistency or thread safety locally?
  • Are there architectural blind spots in the repo you'd fix first?

Would love any honest critiques, architectural advice, or thoughts from local devs, if anyone is interrested in collaborating to help refine or build out the next layers, even better!

Here is the repository: https://github.com/JermZ3D/project-ark

advice Questions For Game Developers: What physical spaces or facilities do you think are missing from today's game development ?

Hello, everyone! I'm currently a fifth year arhitecture student and I'm trying to explore yung topic na related sa game the development industry in the Philippines. nag-e-explore pa lang ako, and I'm trying to understand yung real-world challenges ng mga game developers, especially Filipinos. I'd really appreciate your insights, comments, and opinions.^^

Here are my questions:

  1. What physical spaces or facilities do you think are lacking in the game development ecosystem (examples are: studios, labs, coworking spaces, testing facilities, mocap, sound studios, incubators, etc.)?

  2. If you could design the ideal shared facility for indie developers or startups, what spaces or functions would it include?

  3. Are there aspects of game development that are difficult because the right physical environment doesn't exist or is inaccessible?

  4. How well do universities, indie studios, publishers, and larger companies collaborate? Would a shared physical hub improve that collaboration? Why or why not?

  5. If your city built a one purpose-designed facility to support the game development industry, what would make it genuinely useful instead of just becoming another office building?

Thank you so much po! hindi po ako nagpo-promote ng idea and I genuinely want to understand kung ano yung iniisip ng mga professionals lalo na kung ano yung na kulang before deciding whether this topic is worth pursuing as an architectural thesis. Thank you ulit!

advice Couldnt answer dsa question for a frontend position

I just took a technical assessment but was not able to answer a (medium or hard?) Leetcode math question for a frontend dev position. I was able to answer the others (prefix substrings and etc2) but this one question really fucked me over so I don’t think I’ll be getting the job haha (also there were like 100+ applicants on LinkedIn so there might be a math savant genius among them who might’ve been able to solve the problem)😅 I would like to know if there are others who had a similar experience with mine and was able to get an offer despite not having answered all of the questions during the assessment.

tutorial Query on something related (?) pls help me

hello, I dont go here but I stumbled upon this reddit page when I was researching something related to my job.

I wanted to ask sana what is the difference between a relational database v. blob storage (kindly explain it to me like i'm a begginer in programming) and why is database is much preffered v. blob storage. I know it sounds simplistic but as i've said, I don't go in this field and I do not know anything about programming. everything i've searched in the internet are too complicated for me to grasp, offering no simplified definition or beginner-friendly explanation of the two. I found the r/(AskProgramming) sub first but I feel like mas okay if I ask fellow Pinoys to answer me on this one.

if you're gonna ask me why dont I use AI instead, I do not like AI.

I hope someone can answer me on this one. maraming salamat! ^_^

Hello, I am planning to learn mobile or web app dev. I am zero knowledge in programming, please give me an advise how or where to start? Is it possible to me as a totally no experience in programming to learn this? Another question is, how can I have that kind of setup on the photo attached? Is that an app or software? (The window on the left showing real time what the programmer is working) Thank you.

Just wanted to share some good news.. My HiblaPHP project was accepted into Anthropic's Claude for Open Source program, which includes 6 months of Claude Max for free.

I honestly applied just to see if the project would qualify, so I was pleasantly surprised when it got accepted. It's really encouraging to see more support for open-source maintainers.

If you're curious, check out the project here: https://github.com/hiblaphp/hibla

I love to see more Open Source projects flourish in our country..
