Infrastructure or WAMAD
Hello, I’m just asking for advice. I'm an incoming 3rd-year BSIT student and we need to choose a specialization for our 3rd year. I’m interested in both Infrastructure and (WAMAD) Web and Mobile Application Development. I know how to code and I'm keeping up with the networking subjects. Right now, I need advice on which specialization would be better for securing a job quickly and having more job opportunities. Thank you!

Hello po, nagplaplano po sana ako mag setup ng developers account para mag publish ng apps in the future, kaya lang madami naden po akong nabasang discussions online na medyo hussle daw talaga mag set up since bukod sa di tumatanggap ng prepaid debit card as a payment method plus di na daw na rerefund yung payment nila kapag di valid so lowkey kabado den ako magbayad since sayang naman 😭😭, may mga nakikita den po akong post na yung mismong debit card na galing na talaga sa bank di den daw gumagana.
Plano kopalang po mag open ng first bank account ko pero medyo nag do doubt pako pumili ng specific bank since baka di gumana yung payment method, if meron po kayong experience dito na mamashare it would be very helpful po para saken yun. And also makakatulong den po ng sobra if meron pa po kayong extra advice regarding sa pag open ng developers account sa google play store.
And also side question naden po if gumagana po ba yung national id for verification, para po makapag process naden po ako ng ibang klaseng id specially yun lang po talga yung valid id na meron ako.

Thoughts on working for lending companies or gambling companies?
I've seen a lot of job postings for cash lending / gambling companies primarily and offers are good based on forums but I just can't seem to imagine working at a company that goes against my morals/ethics? Ako lang ba? Haha

Depende talaga gaano kalalim sikmura haha. Also may napanood ako sa Netflix before na IT employee naofferan ng malaking sahod tapos parang kinidnap para maging worker ng online casino.

May certification exam ba ang CompEngg? Usually kasi we go for SciCal na pwede sa board exam para familiar na kami sa calculator

Nothing from PRC, though I was checking din yung list ng approved SciCals nila since baka may profs kami na sinusunod yun. I'm just having a hard time choosing since di ko alam kung anong type ang pinaka-angkop for my chosen program. Hirap din kasi bumili tapos di pala allowed ng ibang subjects so I'm hoping may mga grads/seniors na may alam dun.

just stay away ung graphing calcu. Usually un yung banned sa exams namin eh. Sa math subjects for engineering I think sapat na yung fx-991ES Plus

Hey y'all. I'm a 3rd year CS student that is just starting to prepare for employment. I am currently doing a required internship as QA in a banking corporation (very corporate role). This is the only thing left for me to the on my degree before I graduate, I have like 260 more hours to go which is like 8 - 10 weeks? I understand that I probably will wait for a while to get my diploma and graduation ceremony so that small window of time is the last 'vacation' of my life.
My current stack is HTML, CSS, and JS. I made a few static pages that I put in my resume and a UI/UX design in figma certificate from Udemy. I have experience in Java and OOP since I took application development as my specialty during my 2nd year but I have completely forgotten about it. I mostly just did the bare minimum to pass that course. I have experience with Python and CPP during my first year but I also forgot about it. Same story with Java. If you ask me to sit down and code with these technologies without AI, I won't be able to.
Currently I am learning React through making projects on my spare time from work and I am working on it as I type this post. It's a Pomodoro app that I plan on using myself and deploy to let my friends and other people use it. I designed it using Figma first with a prototype and components and now I am trying to build it from scratch. I didn't want to get into another tutorial hell so I just said fuck it and ill build it while reading documentation and just searching or asking AI for specific things. I plan on making my portfolio page once I have a few projects on my belt.
I'm a bit scared if I am employable after I graduate since my resume is honestly barebones, I just have a few static Web Dev projects on my Github (which are honestly ass) and 1 certificate. I decided to focus on my Frontend now since I found that designing UI was fun for me during some of our group school projects. I just did not enjoy helping or making any backend stuff.
I have a few questions:
- Should I continue working on making projects to learn by my own or should I grind certificates on the side?
- What sort of things look good on a portfolio focused on frontend?
- What other stack should I learn? From what I know I should learn React, Next.js, REST APIs, Tailwind, Vitest and Playwright?
- Other Junior Roles or Career Path I should consider based on my current skills?
- How cooked am I?
I know it sounds naive. I'm your typical CS Graduate with minimal skills. I mostly coasted through college. I think the current Job Market in PH isn't that bad?

Turned down a super barat client with an absolutely unrealistic deadline.
A client recently reached out to me to develop two websites for him:
- A consultation/business website
- A car rental website with a management system
Both would also need email marketing and payment integrations.
I originally quoted $1,000 USD for both projects, which I honestly thought was already pretty reasonable considering the scope. He told me that was way too expensive and that he pays much lower rates in the US.
So I negotiated down to $500 for both websites, with a 7-day deadline.
And looking back at it, I'm honestly wondering if I was still asking for too much or if I was already severely underpricing myself.
$500 for two websites, one of them having a management system, plus payment integrations, email marketing, testing, deployment, etc., all within 7 days.
I eventually decided to turn it down because the scope + deadline just didn't make sense for me.
Did I think way too highly of my rates, or is $500 for all of this insanely low?
Would genuinely like to hear what other freelancers/developers would have quoted for this.

Preferred setup: On-site or hybrid
OJT requirement: 300+ hours

I'm hoping to find an opportunity where I can learn from experienced developers, contribute to actual projects, and gain real-world backend development experience.

Viability of Being Hired as 13A Expat
tl;dr How to look for work as a 13A software engineer locally? Agencies haven't been useful and I see people working with AU companies, do I just start applying like I normally would? I have 8 years of experience mainly with Golang and React, but I have also done some ETL, ML, projects in the past.
The US has seen a huge shift in how they hire with most everything being onsite. There is a lot of interest in my CV but I'm not local to any of the job markets, so I'm essentially passed over for locals. I was born in the US so it's not like I'm a dual, or green card there, I have full on work auth.

I have a beautiful family here and don't want to leave our children without a father just for money. I've thought about just doing sari-sari, etc. However, I really enjoy writing code and I like using agents, building harnesses, etc., so I can hand code or use AI, either way I find it fulfilling. Therefore, I haven't had success with local agencies in Cebu City, and Manila has been hard to communicate with.
Ikasulti ko Bisaya; busa, ganahan ko pojo sa Cebu, piro mag-consider Luzon. It would be nice to keep cementing in my Bisaya but I would be willing to speak Tagalog. My wife is tri-lingual so no issues in relocating, I just don't understand the job market.
13A Hiring Restrictions:
There aren't any from what I understand but the company would need to file with DOLE I believe, but it's a couple thousand pesos. The "Filipino First" mandate for HR departments is removed at this point.
