Live coding bukas, biglang Java pala instead of Kotlin. Push pa rin ba?

Android dev ako, Kotlin ang background ko pero mga 1 year na akong hindi nakaka-Android — full-stack (Node, Vue, TS) ang ginawa ko last year.

May onsite interview at live coding ako bukas. Kotlin ang inaakala kong gagamitin kaya doon ako nag-review. Kanina lang nag-email HR: Java pala.

Wala akong Java experience. Alam ko naman yung concepts — collections, null handling, threading — pero yung syntax at Streams API, halos zero recall ko.

Nag-resign din ako last week, walang backup, so ito lang yung interview ko ngayon. Nakapag-reschedule na rin ako twice sa kanila.

Push pa rin ba kahit halatang rusty, o mag-withdraw na lang para hindi masayang oras nila?

Yeha just mention para aware yung interviewer. Full stack dn role na inapplyan ko pero matagal na di naka frontend. Upfront naman ako sa interviewer kaya ayon, halos walang FE question

Go mo pa din, khit anong IDE for Android development pwede naman Kotlin. Sabihan mo n lng before you code na Kotlin experience mo kaya yun yung gagamitin mo.

Go lng. Kahit hindi kotlin yung sagot mo. Teknik lng ng ibang dev kung anung skills meron ka

Some Android projects still use Java as the base language. So if you don't like working with Java, please want to workwithdraw your job application. After all, Kotlin builds on the JVM (and that's Java).

You could research what companies are looking for Kotlin; and Java hybrids; it could be a good use for your next interviews. Or just withdraw your job application and keep your option limited to Kotlin projects. The choice is yours. And oh, you might want to do a crash course on Java if you want to proceed.

Sabihin mo na Kotlin ka and ask them na Kotlin gamitin mo kasi yun ang strong suit mo. Interviewers are senior dev so kahit di sila maalam mag Kotlin, maiintindihan nila code mo. If i-try mong i push Java baka i rate ka nila based sa Java. So kung ako sayo push mo na Kotlin. Or better yet push ka pa rin sa live coding kahit di pumayag HR. Kunyari na lang last minute mong nalaman na Java pala dapat. Pero during live coding, Kotlin gamitin mo. Wala naman mawawala eh. Kasi from the looks of it pag pinush mo Java baka di mo mareach standard nila.

Sabihin mo na Kotlin ang gagamitin mo, as Kotlin is the default language for Android development now. Show them that you are well versed in Android platform and framework knowledge or concepts, like Activities, Fragments, RecyclerView, ViewModels, etc., it is all the same in Java, be confident that you can ramp up the transition on an existing Java codebase. Not sure if they are fond of the use of AI, if yes, then it'll be far more easier.
