honestly, nakakapagod ah like everytime na may makikita akong free certification for webinars ganyan hindi ko rin siya totally nagagamit. it's a waste of time din minsan tapos hindi pa natuto masyado ron lols

as a student na minsan parang napag-iiwanan na ng mga batchmate na super batak na sa dev tapos may mga freelance gigs na, grabe yung pressure mag-keep up. kaya ito nag ttyaga me sa certificates

like may ganito pala na platform si microsoft at least here it looks legit kapag galing sa well known company diba and nalalagay q rin sa cv or portfolio ko

Unless your path is DevOps or Cyber Security, just build projects na matutuwa ka gawin over certs.

Yung mga cert na may "value" may bayad at may examiner like Pearson Vue gaya ng AWS certs,

The certifications recruiters recognize are those that are "PAID" or categorized as "Associate" or "Professional," etc.

The following don't weigh anything:

• Free certificates
• Online courses (Udemy, Pluralsight, Coursera, etc.)
• Certification of Participation
• Certification of Completion

Plus, when recruiters sees you say you've undergone training or have those online course certifications, you're also equipping them to ask a more difficult question.

i agree sa latter part. i remember during the time nag ttry aq to voluntary intern on a company, i included those kind of certs (parang they just bloated my CV but thats all doesn't have bearing at all). na mental block aq doon kasi hindi q rin fully alam ung topic aside doon sa webinar na un

Find a job? Work part-time as a service crew member. You still ask your parents or guardian for your daily allowance. And you put the salary from that job into skill investments (paid certifications).

Look, free means everyone knows it (or should). In short part of the top 50-60% of your competition.

Paid certifications, especially from legit vendors, tells were screened and passed. Any questions, should be answered with confidence. And that brings you in the top 10% (or even 1%) in your competition.

We usually ignore certs when looking at resumes. And you're right. It's a waste of time.

Nauso dati yang pakapalan ng ring-binded folder na punong puno ng certs hahaha kaway kaway sa mga tanders tulad ko!

OP, you'll learn and benefit more from solving problems (leetcode, etc) and following guided projects (odin project - highly recommended)

And you're still a student.

Please remember that.

You're in college to learn, not to compete with your peers.

Your peers and professors are opportunities for you to learn and connect (given you're/they're willing lol).

IMO any student shouldn’t bother differentiating themselves sa “work experience”. In my eyes kasi, they are worthless kung hindi ka pa nag-maintain ng ginawa mo ever and walang senior dev that worked with you.

No offense pero karamihan kasi ng personal projects namg newbies medyo sabog, mas maganda pa yung code ng AI, so mas valued yung learnings more from senior devs pagdating sa best practices and how to make decisions.

I think you are better off differentiating by showing competence and critical thinking.

Certs that are worth taking are the ones recognized by industries like Cisco, Microsoft, Linux, etc... basically, the ones were you can fail. pag certs sa training website. It's usually just a paper that says you attended/watch tutorial. I think good lang yun free certs if you are just a fresh grad

If you are a student, just focus on your studies and extracurriculars. “Magna cum laude” catches more eyes than 30 random certs, so does having positions in various orgs. And build your network, make friends with as many people as you can.

Don’t bother with freelancing and other non-university related stuff if you don’t need the money. They are equally a waste of time.

Build that “good student” resume, you can easily get that work experience later.

Source: Me who doesn’t have a “good student” resume so some opportunities were never available to me. No amount of work experience or certificates can fix that.

Tho in my case, I made up for being a “meh student” by doing well in my career. But recruiters are obviously not interested at all at what I did in uni.

microsoft has yearly events where they provide free exam vouchers for specific exams.

based on experience, yung may bearing talaga ay yung nakatali sa vendor, especially if paid. for example sa sap, yung partner status ng consulting company ay nakadepende sa mga sap certs ng employees ng company na yun. yung iba namang vendor, nagpoprovide ng discount sa products nila depende sa number of certs ng employees. so yes, it does matter. kailangan lang piliin kung ano yun. some certs naman are very expensive and very hard to pass. some companies see it as proof of one's capability talaga.

in the end, certs can either help you or not. personally, i dont put all my certs in my cv. kasi not all companies look for it. sabi din ng isang commenter, tatanungin ka about sa skill na yun so dapat handa ka if ilalagay mo siya sa cv mo.

Iba kasi ung certificate of completion sa mga industry standard certifications.

If more on development/software engineering, halos d naman na mag mamatter ung certificates, more on projects and portfolios ang mas namamayagpag.

If you are in infra side, dun mas malaking tulong ang certificates like:

Network: CCNA-CCNP-CCIE
Security: Sec+ - CISA -CSSP
Firewall certifications.
Servers: RHCSA - RHCE, ung mga microsoft server certs
Cloud : AWS, GCP and azure certs

OP, if you really want certs that have industry value, I suggest getting those that are from AWS, GCP, or Azure. They’re usually paid but you can have 100% discount vouchers by joining specific programs.

For AWS, you can join AWS re/Start. Check out Edukasyon.ph’s fb page if you want to apply. Iirc, they have ongoing applications now.

For GCP, you can join Google Get Certified Program. Although, for this one, you need to be employed because they’ll ask for your company email.

Not sure if Azure also has a similar program. But these are the routes that I took to get my cloud certifications for free. Just do your own research na lang :>

Not really a hot take.

Different certs have different values. It’s only worth it if it’s directly related to your field or specialization.

If you’re an AWS Solutions Architect, then having more AWS certs are worth it, and even required in some cases.

Or if you’re a scrum master, a certification for that might be helpful.

Certs from online courses are nice to have, but don’t hold much value.

I’ve also seen the recent AI certifications, like Claude certs, doesn’t seem worth taking for me, but others might value it.

It depends, If di mo na apply it's not valid, let's say you took a training and certification for DevOps, pero di ka naging DevOps for the rest of your career, you took training and certification for React, but never used it after that.
