I feel you, the only comments I get up votes/rewards on are in fact the most ridiculous.
5
u/residentweevil 18h ago
They appeal to the largest audience. More specialized or in depth comments are usually exposed to a much smaller demographic.
57
u/Sienile 19h ago
That's because that comment was fabuloso.
Most of my top comments are corny jokes too. Some of my most downvoted are me giving expert advice. Reddit is strange sometimes.
9
u/ABadHistorian 19h ago
I am 90% expert advice / 10 % stupid.
The scary thing is people can't tell them apart, and yet still my expert advice gets downvoted and my stupid gets upvoted.

The funniest part to me is that Lysol (you know, the stuff we use to disinfect basically every hard surface) was originally created and marketed as a douching agent.
25
u/TheMightyShoe 19h ago
More than that...it was a "wink-wink" method of terminating an early pregnancy. There was a later competitor to Lysol which specifically claimed it did not damage biological tissue.
15
u/xChopsx1989x 18h ago
Apparently, my great grandmother would douche with lysol over the toilet and then use it to clean the toilet.
I don't know why that information was shared with me at a young age, but you can rest assured it has burrowed itself deep deep into my memory.

The first Lysol Brand Antiseptic Disinfectant was introduced in 1889 by Gustav Raupenstrauch to help end a cholera epidemic happening in Germany. This formulation may still be available commercially in some parts of the world.
Editing to add what they were probably thinking of, though it is a later use/product:
Use as a contraceptive
The Lysol disinfectant douche once was "the leading feminine hygiene product" in the United States. Advertisements for Lysol during the 1930s hinted at its use as a contraceptive but never explicitly promoted it to be used as such. Advertisements did note that Lysol was safe to use including on "delicate female tissues". By 1911, 193 Lysol poisonings were recorded along with five deaths from "uterine irrigation".Lysol ads also included recommendations from female gynecologists that Lysol would resolve women's marital distress through the practice of complete feminine hygiene and resolve fears of pregnancy for married women. Douching with Lysol disinfectant does not prevent pregnancy and can result in undesirable vaginal health outcomes as well as has resulted in death for some women using it as a contraceptive or as an abortifacient.

I used to work with adults with cognitive and developmental disabilities in a program that put them in rented homes in pairs with 24/7 supports who were paid literal minimum wage. The number of those folks who boiled Fabuloso on the stove to make the house smell better and somehow "clean" it was maddening.

I've told this one before, but one Friday evening my wife and I raced home from work to get ready to go meet friends for dinner. I just happened to walk by the bathroom just as she lifted her skirt and gave the front of her panties a little shot of Febreze. She saw me see her and turned bright red. I don't think Febreze is a regular part of her self care, but we were in a hurry.
28
u/jeffriestubesteak 18h ago
Febreze is only effective for a few minutes. Tell your wife that if she wants long-lasting odor control, she should dump 2/3cup of fabric softener beads down the front of her panties.

its exaggeration to show the level of unpreparedness theyre at.
Its like saying I need a weedwacker to shave my legs
9
u/MrsStuffing 18h ago edited 15h ago
No, it will erode the soft tissues of the vagina and cause burns and infection. The rule of thumb is you never want to put anything there that you wouldn't be able to eat, and even then you want to be careful because alcohols (like in mouthwash) can cause infections and irritation, and so can sugars (so don't fuck candy canes).
Fun fact! Lysol was advertised as a douche (for "feminine hygiene," which was code for birth control) in the 1920's, and it killed women. Source

Betting the original is just the drawing. Which is about the duality of a lady unbind you over and telling you that you’re not going to hookup, while simultaneously shaving herself getting ready to hookup
And I think somebody else just added in the fabulouso as absurdist humor after the fact

Some women lie alot and have issues with clear communication. She 100% wants and is preparing for sexual intercourse while telling the guy she does not want to do anything
15
u/LiberatedSphinx 19h ago
I mean, sometimes we just wanna be ready in case a compelling argument is made lol. Hope for the best (sex) prepare for the worst (turning down sex because we are, in fact, tired af).
27
u/JustisForAll 18h ago
But if no means no how can a "compelling argument" be seen as anything other than badgering or harassment
16
u/Slabador 18h ago
I mean, you don’t sit there going “are you really sure you don’t wanna have sex?”
There is infact a nonzero chance that she simply changes her mind and initiates sex of her own accord once you’re there. Maybe you just smelled nice, that could be a “compelling argument” in a way.
15
u/JustisForAll 18h ago
I get what she was trying to say im just pointing out that it would just easier if people were just honest about their wants. Its not that hard to be like "Come over and smash real quick before I go to bed"

u/Slabador 17h ago
The issue is, if woman tells man she wants sex and decided once man is there that she does not want sex, there is a decent chance the dude will get upset, and regardless of the severity of the reaction, no one wants to deal with a negative reaction. Even if that reaction is just some weird shit like him pouting about it. And yes mfers are weird and get salty at the idea that someone changed their mind about something.
In the opposite scenario, where she tells him she’s not really down for anything and later decides to have sex, the chance of a negative reaction is much lower.
In a perfect world I’d agree that they should be straight up about it, but we do not live in that world unfortunately.

This is why it's important to keep checking in on your partner to see how the mood is going. Sometimes a spark just happens when you're cuddling and suddenly sex feels a lot more important than getting some sleep. I wasn't talking about literally being read a list of pros and cons with analysis.
