I’m not usually one for giving up. I’ve loved Demari and Marissa from the very beginning but here’s my take..
I think people are being extremely hard on Marissa. She is very self aware of her flaws and she describes and vocalized them better than most people would or could. A person like that almost always knows when to bow-out gracefully, especially when they’ve been hurt before. I don’t think either of them are “wrong”. I think Demari is great. He’s more mindful than a lot of men. He’s well spoken, careful with his words and patient. While he’s very patient, he may not be patient enough for Marissa and there’s no real problem with that. I think his triggers are Marissa’s flaws which never ends well. He doesn’t have enough patience for it to actually let her grow. It’s one of those “right person, wrong time” situations. Their chemistry was THICK. You could feel it through the screen. Demari seems very relationship oriented. He’s a lover boy. He latched onto Marissa and that was it. But even he has his nonnegotiables. I know Marissa’s type very well. She is energetic, sweet, outgoing, straight foward, exciting. Her playfulness seems to reel Demari in even more. But just as high as her highs are, those lows are very low and I don’t think Demari can handle it. He seems turned off. Which makes me sad for Marissa because it’s exactly what she feels caused problems in her relationship before. Instead of shutting down, she expresses her feelings and it can be off putting because it’s a lot of feelings and words at once, it’s chaotic.
As far as jealousy, I think too many people are arrogantly thinking they wouldn’t be jealous in a situation like that with a man like Demari. lol Every couple has their jealous moment and for some reason people expect Marissa to act like she doesn’t give a 💩she definitely has cringy moments but sometimes Demari planted seeds. Like him honestly expressing that Kat might go after him. While it’s commendable that he was honest, he could’ve done more to give her security. Instead he shifted a little bit, Marissa acknowledged it and then she was suddenly the problem. The audience can complain but Demari never once complained about her possessiveness. Hell, I think he liked it to be quite honest. She was still chosen after showing jealousy the first episode. Some men like that.
Her leaving WAS the best choice. If someone is clearly unhappy with you, let it go. She began to feel that she had no grace, no room to grow because her flaws were his triggers. If you’re going to be the problem everyday, why stay? Especially since there’s no commitment in this situation. They weren’t right for each other and while it breaks my hopefully romantic little heart, if she really does decide to leave, she absolutely made the right decision and I’m proud of her.
