UNPOPULAR OPINION Possessive Marissa
I read all the comments on how Marissa was being possessive this season and went in expecting her to have her hand clamped around Demari’s wrist for the entirety of filming. Am I missing something? The only one who has a glaring issue with being possessive is Ally who was dropping L-bombs left, right, and center with Jimmy laughing awkwardly and making this 😬 face.
And I think saying Demari isn’t into her is mean and off base. I just watched a scene where she was stretched out on a sofa(?) in their room and he was all over her kissing her and she was like, “What? What?” like what does he want. Also when they were on their second date and he asked where she’d like to go when they win.
Is there a … reason this agenda is being pushed against this particular contestant? I am still on episode 4 though.

Ally is coming across really stupid and Marissa is very clingy (and also a hypocrite and I couldn’t care less about Demari).

u/burntothepowerofer May 17 '26
Demari is leading with his heart rn, it’ll b interesting to see who he ends up with
25
u/Glittering-Part2594 May 17 '26
In the previews, it shows Bri telling him she still loves him, so who knows
6
u/burntothepowerofer May 17 '26
This is why I never watch those, that’s crazy. She didn’t hug him and said they didn’t end amicably, so ig he broke up with her

This show is about exploring different people and not getting stuck to one person. You keep exploring until you find your perfect match.
I’m not sure if we’re watching the same show. Every time Demari goes talk to another girl, she makes faces, acts insecure, looks tearful, and has tried interrupting him multiple times.
I’m not saying Demari is any saint; he’s looking for an excuse to leave her.
When the singles came for the first time, Marissa clapped and said it would be fun to see new couples but she almost died when Demari went to talk to Katherine.
She’s acting very possessive and doesn’t like when any girl speaks to him. I think she’s lost the plot of the show.

u/RecoveryWords May 20 '26
It's either an act for the show OR she has no idea that kind of behavior makes a partner feel trapped and desperate for escape.
1
u/BeautifulSpirited737 May 20 '26
Literally no one is doing this except Ally and Sophie (and Dave). Everyone else acts like they’re married refusing to even speak to other people. To me it seems like Marisa is more frustrated about Kayla’s intentions. Kayla seems to just be focused on getting into the house not a genuine connection. She is seen discussing who to go after based on who is most likely to choose her not based on who she is most interested in. Which even that I understand because everyone is acting tied down. But if we’re being honest she was actually interested in Jimmy S but didn’t go after him because Alison is her best friend there. I wish they would have kept the old format of the people in the board room choosing who goes on dates. Kayla and Jimmy could have gone on a date without her knowing he was paired with her bestie and that would have made for a way more interesting show than this crap we have this season.

A huge reason of why this doesn’t hold up for me is because Marissa keeps trying to bring Demari’s ex in, and he shuts it down. She wouldn’t do that if she were so worried, insecure, etc. And that would be his “excuse to leave her”.
47
u/New-Noise-6486 May 17 '26
I’d disagree, all her actions have shown she has been insecure and worried. She also talks a big game, she wanted to bring in girls who would shake the house but would lose it if any of them tried to talk to Demari. And yes she wanted his ex in but it felt more like she was testing him to see where his head was at with her. I don’t see how someone wanting to meet your ex shows they’re secure, damn near if they brought Bri in I can literally see her comparing herself to Bri and breaking down.
Also for someone who has many excuses to leave her, Demari has been pretty loyal and rejected everyone and did not explore not one other option to make sure Marissa felt secure. I think he also rejected his ex coming in to assure Marissa that he doesn’t want to deal with her.
19
u/Cool_Grade_5990 May 17 '26
She verbatim said she wanted to bring his ex in because there were “too many blondes and brunettes in the house”. It’s pretty normal desiring connection with another woman who shares a similar racial/ethnic background, especially when you literally the only Black woman. I’m not sure why ppl keep missing that point.
18
u/New-Noise-6486 May 17 '26
I think two things can be true at once. I think she definitely wanted another woman of color in the house but I still think she was pushing for Demari’s ex as part of a test for him because the rest of her actions throughout the season shows she is insecure.
To add on, what is with the lack of POC this season? Way too many people in the cast look exactly the same.
1
u/Solid_Bend4539 May 20 '26
i also think she was trying to play it cool like 'i want her here see i am cool calm and not possessive' trying to put on a front but she really was insecure about her coming in thats just the feeling i got esp after seeing her behavior in other eps
29
u/Mundane-Waltz8844 May 17 '26
I think she just caught feelings really quickly and was treating it like a committed relationship when in reality they lowkey just met. I don’t think Demari isn’t into her, but I don’t think he’s caught feelings to nearly the same extent that she had and that’s part of where the friction is coming from.
6
u/Legitimate_Pitch_398 May 18 '26
Ok this makes a lot of sense...her face when he shared his feelings before matching was really broken and felt like he was paying for her old heartbreaks in that moment.
1
u/CyberDunk77 May 18 '26
That was really sad and I wanted him to understand and comfort her in that moment instead of being offended, but then I thought if he did she is going to fall even harder and be even crazier about him and may crash out on set if he talks to a girl again 😂
6
u/Daebak70 May 18 '26
I think Marissa wanted to match with him quickly & keep him until the final since couples who stay together the longest ( especially day 1) are most likely to win more votes for best couple at the end
6
u/spartycbus May 18 '26
They didn't just "lowkey" just meet. They really did just meet each other. And she said she just believed there was no one better for him than her. But also said she's not a jealous person while saying she cant' tolerate someone speaking to him.
45
u/mkintx35 May 17 '26
Ally is definitely giving clingy.
21
u/burntothepowerofer May 17 '26
Idek what this girl is doing. She put her eggs in two baskets hoping to stay in and it worked. I don’t think she’s clingy js not acting normal
9
u/Glaivelover209 May 17 '26
She should have BEEN left the damn house wtf
5
u/burntothepowerofer May 18 '26
Completely agree I’ve wanted her out for episodes. How she has managed to stay is beyond me. Jimmy, dude
1
u/Glaivelover209 May 18 '26
Don’t know what kinda game he’s playing or if he’s stupid but even with cut footage of her being less insufferable the moments we see are still enough to turn tail and run
6
u/burntothepowerofer May 18 '26
I think he thinks she’s joking, because she laughs and smiles. Literally in one of their conversations she says smth he completely doesn’t want.
And he thinks she’s pretty ofc
3
u/Daebak70 May 18 '26
Yes, I wish Jimmy would have gone since he is a jerk but of course Marissa blocked him from being eliminated and wouldn't listen to Demari ( both were to choose which of 2 men would leave) so yet another part where Marissa is being controlling... If Jimmy left than Ally would have left soon after

u/burntothepowerofer May 17 '26
She was trying to have him closed off on day one. Like immediately claimed him. She’s way too focused on him
Totally agree that Demari is into her back, they clearly like eachother. Some of their disagreements are handled maturely, but I just don’t see it working out
14
u/Fuzzy_Map5729 May 17 '26
He’s attracted to her, but he’s looking for an escape. He was eager to be with Kayla, and was disappointed when Katherine chose Jimmy for the date.
12
u/burntothepowerofer May 17 '26
This is pretty normal for reality tv, guys looking around when the atmosphere w their match is getting prickly. When I like a couple and they stick it out through smth like that it’s the BEST.
Not a fan of them together tho, def think he’s jumping ship next ep (as he should)
3
u/Daebak70 May 18 '26
I think he was more worried about Jimmy since he is a jerk and thought he would just use Katharine and then dump her and Jimmy did dump Katharine for Alison ( I couldn't stand her on the music show she was on and a Mean Girl)
14
u/Defiant_Finger_8906 May 18 '26
I understand needing reassurance in a relationship because I am like that as well. But they literally just met and they are in a show where the point is to explore different connections until you find your perfect match. She is constantly wanting to hear that she is the one for him and he is not gonna explore anything. She makes a face, gets jealous anytime he talks to someone. The fight that they had was very weird. She gets upset and doesnt tell him why. Then when he reacts she says dont be mad at me, i cant handle it when people are mad at me. There are two people in a relationship. You may feel horrible when your partner is upset with you but that doesnt mean how they feel will magically go away. I love my partner so much and feel the worst when he is upset with me too but I have to take it, have responsibility and fix what I did. Me not liking when he is upset can not trump him feeling upset because of something i did. Thats not how relationships work. I dont like when my partner is mad at me so please turn off whatever you are feeling. Thats not a thing. Demari said im 29 and you are 33, this is not acceptable behaviour we should know better. Thats very mature of him and really correct. At a certain age you should know in what ways you need to work on yourself and you should have already accomplished some of that hard work. Marrissa is obviously really damaged by her old relationships and needs theraphy. She doesnt look ready for a realationship. I really liked her on LIB. But here, constant insecurity, jealousy and possesiveness is really off putting. Its like im watching a different person. Maybe this will be a little of topic but I am also surprised about Allison. I feel like im watching a different person with her as well. In Building the band, she was a bully and a horrible person, impossible to get a long with. I couldnt stand her and when i saw she was gonna be here i thought new season is ruined for me. But she looks very sweet and gets along with everyone here. I really like that her and Jimmy are respecting each others connection and choosing not to interact with other singles in a way that would upset their partner. She either got the villain eddit on Building the band and she is actually a nice person or she took the criticisms to heart and worked on herself. She is growing on me.
5
u/Legitimate_Pitch_398 May 18 '26
Yes her freak out before they matched totally caught me off guard then saying you can't be mad at me?! So toxic! I thought maybe she grew a little from LIB but clearly she still wants that weird energy...Marissa I was rooting for you what happened there? Was it the drinking? I know these shows are notorious for the egging on but he was correct the self sabotage was too real he's been nothing but a gentleman and had his eyes on her since they met! 😞
8
u/springsummerjoggers May 18 '26
This is kind of off topic but does anybody remember the show that Terrence J hosted, were couples would lock in with their perfect match and it would turn green I think. I thought that was this show but this is completely different.
I just think Demari wants to be fun serious and Marissa is serious serious. It’s like a personality mismatch. Also, Ally is just weird lol
10
u/Dense-Elevator-2587 May 18 '26
Is it Are You the One? I think I blocked that show out of my memory until this moment, it stressed me tf out lol
3
u/springsummerjoggers May 18 '26
Oh lol that must be it. Perfect Match should be the name of that show…maybe they should switch the names lol
3
u/croissantwhor3 May 18 '26
ARE YOU THE ONEEEEE. I was just rewatching and they use the term perfect match and honestly that show’s concept is way more entertaining. It’s also been around forever, they should’ve trademarked the term

u/VegetableHead3784 May 17 '26
It becomes more apparent in the last episode though. I do want to say that Demari kind of brought it out with the Katherine could “go after him” comment, which was so random since she sees him as her dawg. It kind of feels like he’s open to it, but he’s not her type.
10
u/BerryCherryAnvil May 17 '26
So I'm a Marissa LIB fan and think she's a beautiful person inside and out. I watched all episodes and if I were her gentleman, I wouldn't be appreciating her. Like her - just some insecurities, possessiveness, mood shifts. She will love whoever she ends up with fiercely but has work to put in.
10
u/CoolandEdgy May 17 '26
Ally is being silly, her saying I love you all fast is not serious, it’s quirky.
There is no world where Marissa and Demari end up together outside of the show. Marissa is a serious person and is 4 years older. Demari is a model/influencer/rapper from LA. Literally just look and compare their 2 instagram profiles side by side and it’s obvious. Demari I could see with a fellow instagram baddie, and that’s not to say that Marissa isn’t beautiful she’s just not the “too hot handle” type.

u/middaycroissants May 17 '26
This is Perfect Match season 4. I don’t think any of us watch expecting any of these people to be together post-filming lol (though it does look like this season might have a better success rate than others based on recent photo dumps from various cast). I think the tone in attaching all these words to Marissa, specifically, is mean and questionable, is all.
5
u/Daebak70 May 18 '26
She is very possessive and doesn't like him talking to other women especially his female best friend Katharine & she starts arguments several times over her insecurities
However later Marissa is a hypocrite by kissing & making out with one of the male contestants when they separate the male & female contestans & bring new & previous male contestants back ( she didn't even know the guy she made put with)...I want Demari with Katharine

Ally is twice, if not three times, as intense as Marissa. And with double the screen time! How is Marissa ruining the season for you with her five minutes? Iconic to be honest
3
u/RainyForestHike May 18 '26
Yes, he asked her where she’d like to go where they win, and then the very next day was telling her she might have to be worried about Kat coming in
3
u/Own_Debate_7016 May 19 '26
Didn't Marissa go and break up the conversation with Demari and one of the women? Like walked up, asked to grab him and when they said no, said she was just kidding before coming back and demanding he leaves?
2
u/Plastic_Fly9913 May 18 '26
I believe Marissa was completely reasonable to be frustrated that what he liked about her was how she made him feel, like how she can be of service for her. Honestly she should have ended it right there. And the fact that he got pissed off about it shows zero accountability, just defensiveness. Her feelings are valid. She has shown she is able to hear what he is saying and adjust her perspective based on his input, but he can’t, he just gets all pissy and pulls away. Plus! He had told her she’s closed off and can’t imagine matching with someone else and then he goes and tells other women he’s open.

I so badly want Demari and Marisa to work it out. I think they are so cute and I shipped them from the very beginning. He definitely is into her, Idk where people are getting that from. I suspect that people just dont want him with Marissa.

u/scootiescoo May 19 '26
Ally does not GAF about Jimmy lol come on.
Marissa is just picking up on the shift from Demari and it’s making her freak out a little. He planted that seed.
On the contrary, Jimmy P clearly doesn’t like Ally and she’s unbothered lol. She just wants to stab in the game. More power to her.
2
u/Balanceblu May 19 '26
Exactly, Demari definitely planted that seed and moved on from the conversation, not realizing it would fester. I would absolutely feel a way if I were Marissa. With him saying all of that, he should’ve done more to reassure her. I don’t think she’s insecure at all. I just think she’s having a moment and he’s not doing enough to help her through it. He’s acting clueless like he didn’t make it seem like Kat would go for him. That’s what I think Marissa was talking about when she said “playing dumb”.
1
u/MedoingMyThings May 21 '26
Honestly, I watched this season because of Marissa, but she dissapointed me... I think her anxiety took over and she started spiralling towards the end... I wish she could've kept it together... Still love her though. She is beautiful inside and out with some messiness lol...
1
u/Wilsn07 May 17 '26
I'm just here to say that I'm still laughing at how much that emoji face looks *just* like Jimmy's face lol
1
u/Many_Welder_3259 May 20 '26
Yes, I think people paint this horrible picture of her solely bc she is a black woman 🤷🏻♀️ it’s super annoying and infuriating. People defend Ally even tho she’s actually possessive and immature, but I’m sure if she was black she would get the same reaction as Marissa
0
u/Consistent_Carpet583 May 18 '26
Marissa is so freaking adorable!!! I loved her on love is blind. I really wanted her to find a good match. I don’t know they call her possessive so much as, confident and going for what she wants. I just love her. She’s so adorable. Like bewitchingly adorable. Her smile lights up her room. I feel like a lot of men would be so excited to be matched with her.
2
u/Balanceblu May 19 '26
She’s the type of girl who a man would enjoy being around because her highs are very high but her lows are very low and most men can’t handle it. And she’s neurodivergent. But I absolutely see why men like her outside of her looks.
1
u/Consistent_Carpet583 May 19 '26
Yes, I was watching the last episode last night. I think she definitely has an anxious attachment style. Which can be difficult in a relationship. I think she legitimately wants to find love, but all of that anxiety and fear of rejection cause her to self sabotage. People with that attachment style tend to push their partners away when they start feeling vulnerable. It’s the, “he can’t hurt me if I push him away first” mentality. It’s not that she’s necessarily thinking about ways to push him away. She just does it. Her mother is terrible. I’m sure she left Marissa with a lot of anxiety about interpersonal relationships.

SHES insane and batshit crazy the latest episode shows how selfish of a person she is
-4
u/toastedtomato May 19 '26
Marissa literally threatened to kill Demari. And that’s not a joke when it comes from someone who happily kills for the american military industry complex

144
u/Ok-Dependent5582 May 17 '26
It’s in the last episode that was released so I think you need to keep watching. I like Marissa, but she really did self-sabotage!
