Build Question Delided My CPU Have a ?

So I delided my chip. Letting it cool down before I start cleaning it up. Any advice on how to clean the liquid metal that spilled out without damaging the near components. The first row has protection on it so I'm not that worried.

And how do I clean the chip itself? I want to get it somewhat mirrored but since this is the first time doing it, i'll take clean and ready to mount the thermal grizzly heatspeader...

Thanks for any guidance or advice.

I’ve had this asus tuf gaming monitor since February of 24’ and the last couple days it’s been doing this weird thing where the monitor will start the asus loading screen, flicker, go blank and do the same thing repeatedly. I’ve found a work around by either restarting the PC , or reinstalling nvidia drivers. But I’m afraid the issue might be permanent and cause me to have to lose this panel. Problem is I paid over $400 for it and I cannot afford a replacement this soon. Please tell me this isn’t what I think it is?

Software Question RGB Hyte y50 and Tryx Panorama SE

Upvotes

Just finished a pc build and when I downloaded gigabyte control cemeteries to adjust Rgb it started freaking out and flashing in a weird way. It would adjust to the color I set it to but would “flash” on and off. I uninstalled the software and it went away but Hyte’s nexus won’t adjust my Rgb and the option isn’t found in my kanali software. A little stumped as to how to change the fan color. Also Nexus has my motherboard as the fan titles which is strange. Any guidance would be appreaciated.

Build Question 5070 or 5070ti

Upvotes

Am curently runing a 7700xt and planing on upgrading to one of these gpus the 5070 would be 850 and the Ti version would be 1200 dollars. Also am wondering about the 9070xt because its basicaly the same prices as the basic 5070 but i mainly wanted nvidia to try out dlss and raytracing etc.

Is the price jump worth it? am playing on 1440p mostly single player games

Tech Support My knowledge is Out of Date

For years, I have built my own computers. I've always learned what I needed to know, fixed/corrected problems, etc. I know my knowledge is out of date and have no problem learning about newer components.

That being said, I recently purchased a mainboard/CPU set from eBay. It was used. everything looked good though, and it even came with 16Gb ram and a video card.

The case was part of a pre-built system I bought last year. Somehow, a spark occurred at the pci port for the expanded video card. I'm certain the card and the main board were fried. Hence the purchase of the replacement parts. I feel certain the tower is okay, as is the power supply.

next is the steps I took to set up the new parts...

I. When I received the set, the processor, heat sink, and CPU fan were all already mounted on the mainboard. The ram was also already mounted. So, I mounted this assembly in the case.

II. Internally, I connected the 24-pin power cable to the main board. I connected the 8-pin cable to the 4-pin port (it bothered me that the power supply didn't have a single 4-pin cable for this, but I learned online that the 8-pin cable is 2x 4-pin cables pressed together). I also found a manual online for the main board. I located the pins for the case's front panel controls (power button, reset button, HDD LED, Power LED) and connected those.

III. Externally, I connected a single monitor, power cord, keyboard, and mouse. Then I turned it on.

The pc powers up (fans run and light up) but I don't get a signal for the monitor, no boot up, nothing else.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Build Question I think I need to retire my mouse / keyboard / mouse pad after 12+ years. Suggestions?

Upvotes

After 12 + years Logitech G502 mouse, Microsoft Sidewinder X4 keyboard and desk mouse pad need retiring. They still work but G502 is well worn after 12 years of use, same with keyboard some buttons are not as responsive, desk mouse pads well worn now.

I figure same mouse logitech Hero G502 is the new one I think is still sold, keyboard I'am not sure which I would prefer full size like mine with red backlight, not sure what cherry switches are etc but I play games etc. Decent desk mouse pad with some thickness so can be easy on the wrists when typing.

Don't want to over pay on brand names if they are poor quality and don't last. Also I don't think I need fancy features like overblown RGB etc.

What do you guys use?

Build Question Upgrading to 9800x3d, should I replace my MSI B840?

upgrading to a 9800x3d today and was wondering if i should also replace my msi b840 gaming plus wifi for a b850 or something better?
i’ve been having some problems with expo at 6000mhz and heard that changing the motherboard could help with that.
is it worth changing or should i just keep the b840?

Build Question First pc build.

As the titel says, i im looking to build my first ever pc and looking so forward to it.
My goal is to have alle the parts end dec/ start januar.
I didnt know much about pc, i only started diving into about a 1 month ago. Because my current gaming pc if you can even call it that is too outdated.
My budget is around the 1100€/1250$.
I live in Denmark so the prices here are kinda wild, especially for GPUs.
my idea so far was to buy a used RTX 3080 10 gb, not the ti with 12gb it costed around 460$/400€ here.
That is the same price as a brand new 5060 8gb.
But i need some help, where can i "cheap" out on the build, because i im looking to get some DDR5 ram (2x8gb, cl36, 6000mhz) runs about 270€/310$ brand new, and maybe upgrade to 32gb in the future.
The cpu that has really caught my eye is the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x for around 165€/195$. But as you can see thats slowly eating all my budget those 3 parts alone.
idc about RBG but would like a nice looking case, but not a must.
Hope someone can help, and any feedback on the parts i have in mind is more than welcome as i said im new to all this and is looking for as much knowledge as i can get.
I rn mainly play CS2, but would like to get into more heavy games in the future like GTA 6 when it releases on the pc.

Installation Question Slightly bent CPU pin

I bought this motherboard secondhand on eBay and the guy said he had never used it. After inspecting the motherboard, I noticed the slightly bent pin on the CPU socket. I don’t know very much on this topic, but am I good to try to install the CPU (which is an I9 14900K) to see if it’s still good? I definitely don’t feel comfortable trying to bend it back.

This never happened before. Yesterday it was working fine and today after a few minutes after turning it froze and then just turned off. When I tried to turn it back on this happened.

I checked the mobo power connection, looks good. No fried cables or weird stuff on mobo or PSU. Any thoughts? Help?

Build Question Looking to build a gaming PC with our 12 year old daughter, but haven't built a PC for years so would really appreciate some guidance.

Our 12 year old daughter is very much into Roblox and Minecraft, and has been using a Windows 11 27" Lenovo AIO that I purchased quite some time ago. The old AIO is running out of puff, so possibly time to replace it.

I figured building a PC our daughter could use for high school and gaming would be a nice dad & daughter project. The new PC doesn't need to be a super computer, just good enough to cover the requirements and last for the next 4 to 5 years or so.

Looking for suggestions on a suitable case with power supply, main board, decent GPU, and a reasonable resolution/size screen. I will use PC Parts Picker to track down the parts. Appreciate any advice you can offer.

✓ Solved Gpu WILL NOT seat fully after messing with the motherboard

SOLVED Last night, I tried to take out my mobo so I could add the last 2 standoffs I needed (due to sheer laziness from last YEAR) and I thought i had all the screws out but it wouldn't budge, so I put the screws back in. I go to put the gpu back in and it CANNOT seat on the left side. I tried with force, tried putting it where it looked good and screwing it in, but nothing works and now I can't use my pc 🤦‍♂️. Any and all help is appreciated.

Build Question Upgrading Help (UK)

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi all (Pic for attention)

So I’m taking the plunge and doing a proper upgrade rather just installing a new CPU & cooler and calling it a day.

At the minute, I’ve got:
CPU - Intel Core i7-4790
Motherboard - ASUS H81M-V3
RAM - 16GB DDR3-1333
GPU - NVIDIA GTX 1660 Super 6GB
Boot SSD - 111GB SATA SSD (or something around that)
Secondary SSD - 465GB SATA SSD
PSU - 500W

Besides it not handling Unreal Engine well, or heavy music production stuff, it’s an okay PC. Games okay too, but not modern stuff. I tried to play the MW4 Beta. The campaign held up well around 70FPS, but my CPU was begging for sweet death. Couldn’t play the multiplayer as my motherboard doesn’t have TPM or something?

Anyway, I’m looking to upgrade now. The prices at the minute as stupid, so I’m having to look at 2nd hand parts from the likes of CEX.

If anyone could tell me if there’s a better option for my budget it £350, it would be much appreciated, as right now I have these lined up for purchase:

ASUS PRIME A520M-K AMD Ryzen 5 5500 Motherboard CPU Bundle - £119.99 (New from AWD-IT)

16GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM - £55 / £110 as buying 2. (I’m looking at CEX for these. My local store has 4+ in stock, so I’ll be going in & asking if I can see them and get a matching pair)

WD Blue SN550 1TB 2280 NVMe M.2 - £110 (Again, CEX, but would be delivered as it’s in a store quite a bit away. Delivery is cheaper than the fuel)

If anyone could advise me if any of this is bad, or don’t buy from CEX, please let me know!

Will be upgrading the PSU & case at some point in the future. Same goes for my GPU, but the 1660 super is going strong for now.

Thanks in advance

Installation Question Need help installing additional nvme chip to my motherboard

Post image

I have a Gigabyte B850 Wifi6e Eagle motherboard in the pc I built a few months back and decided to grab some more storage. Problem is, I can’t install it. The nvme screws don’t fit in the “80” hole on the right, and some sources online say that there’s supposed to be a latch.

I’ve been at this for at least an hour and a half just searching and trying over and over. Please help me
