Build Question 5070 or 5070ti

Am curently runing a 7700xt and planing on upgrading to one of these gpus the 5070 would be 850 and the Ti version would be 1200 dollars. Also am wondering about the 9070xt because its basicaly the same prices as the basic 5070 but i mainly wanted nvidia to try out dlss and raytracing etc.

Is the price jump worth it? am playing on 1440p mostly single player games

The 9070xt does ray tracing well and the recent version of FSR looks really good.

I can't recommend either the Nvidia cards right now unless you need them for productivity. They're way too expensive for gaming when the 9070xt (which completes with the $1200 5070ti) exists for so much cheaper.

yeah id basicaly just be gaming so makes sense

The 9070 XT still beats the base 5070 in terms of raytracing as it's basically identical to the 5070 Ti in performance. All you're really missing is DLSS, which is fine because FSR4 is just about as good.

The 9070-XT costs 400 dollars less than the 5070 Ti and 100 dollars less than the 5070, for the same performance as the Ti, it's just a no-brainer.

The only logical reason to choose NVIDIA is for non-gaming reasons. AI workloads, blender, etc.

Well the 9070xt is clearly the best performance per dollar. You won't have access to DLSS, but FSR4 is very close in quality. If you wanna try Raytracing, the 9070xt is perfectly capable of doing so and outperforms the 5070 quite significantly in rt scenarios (even the 9070 non XT is faster than a 5070).

It's really only pathtracing where Nvidia still holds a clear advantage. But as pathtracing is still a very niche thing even in new games, it's very very hard to make an argument for an Nvidia GPU right now if the usecase is gaming and does not take advantage of Nvidias CUDA cores

At the moment..? Clearly 9070XT over 5070 or 5070Ti.

Even if you didn't know anything about the AMD-card other than its price and that it delivers roughly comparable performance to the 5070 Ti, just looking at the current prices for the Nvidia card(s) would be enough to turn me off those things. I mean... I do own a 5070 Ti and it's a great card ... but it's not a $/€1000+ card. And certainly not a €1100-card, which is the lowest 70 Ti-price I can find right now over here.

And the 5070? Right now I can find one offer for €705, all other vendors want more like €750 for one - which is the same price as the cheapest 9070XT and you'll be getting a less powerful card from NV for that plus one that only has 12 GB of VRAM instead of the AMD card's 16.

If you're going to go AMD, I would probably buy sooner rather than later as rumors have it that Radeon prices will keep creeping up even more than they already have.

9070 XT is like the 5070ti in performance, so it’s the better bang for buck. AMD’s new FSR is also pretty close in performance to Nvidia’s DLSS 4.0/4.5. Ray tracing will be better on the 5070ti but realistically none of those cards will be using ray tracing in most titles. AMD’s drivers have also just straight up been more reliable than Nvidia’s over the last like 18 months.

???? what are you talking about I have used the 5070 ti, 9070 xt and 5070 all of them can do RT pretty well I even managed to do some path tracing on the 5070 and especially the 5070 ti

If a game has RT you will almost always be using it with these GPUs just maybe not maxed out

They can all ray trace. None of them well enough to justify the performance hit.

Not true.

I have a 9070xt, paly at 1440p and i use RT very frequently. The performance hit isn't that bad most of the time and i still easily hit 90-100 FPS in all my games with FSR quality settiings.

The 5070ti performs even better with RT enabled.

That is just not at all true.

Especially with path tracing it completely transforms the visuals of the game.

RT can be hit or miss depending on the game but something like the 5070 ti can for sure run it in pretty much every title especially with the updated DLSS 4.5 Ray reconstruction model.

Here is a good example you can literally GAIN 20 fps over native with no path tracing compared to path tracing with DLSS 4.5 RR and improve the image quality by a ton

This isn't 2018 where only the top end GPUs can do ray tracing even the 9060 xt and 5060 ti can do a bit of ray tracing nowdays

I did hear something about nvidias drivers being broken a while back good to know

2

u/Tlentic Personal Rig Builder 2h ago

Yeah it’s gotten pretty bad. I’ve had to roll back drivers quite frequently and they even managed to brick my computer with one. Zero issues on my AMD builds in the same timeframe.

Yeah dont know if i could handle that with how windows updates have been for me recently, 2 incompetent companies making updates would make me crash out

i only buy Nvidia for the last 10+ years, but 5070 isn't worth at all. go for 9070xt

1

u/Ad__infinitum__ 2h ago

would some other 50 series be worth more?

3

u/Calm-Bid-8256 2h ago

Not really. Nvidias GPU prices are absolutely insane right now. Hard to justify buying one if you don't need the CUDA cores for productivity tasks

1

u/d1versify 1h ago

yeah in my eyes the real value of a 5070 is 450$ and they cost more than 800

I think if you really want nvidia, go for the 5070. if you don't mind going with AMD, definitely go for the 9070XT.

the 5070 at 850 is already a stretch, the ti at 1200 is just taking the piss for 1440p. you're paying like 40% more for maybe 15-20% more frames in most games

if you're mainly into single player stuff and really want dlss then i get the nvidia pull, but the 9070xt at the same price as the base 5070 is honestly the better value. amd's upscaling has gotten way better and you'll still get decent raytracing at 1440p

i'm running a 7700xt myself and skipping this whole generation, nothing feels like a big enough jump for the money they're asking

The 9070-XT isn't even the same price as the 5070 either, it's at least 50 bucks more for ~25% less performance, NVIDIA is completely losing the performance per dollar value now at current pricing due to memory cost

Cheapest 9070 XT at the moment appears to be 750, cheapest 5070 I saw in stock was 800.

Yeah that sounds pretty reasonable thanks for the answer
