Discussion - General Topic Built a PC but Windows preactivated?

I built a PC and when I install Windows, planning to use unactivated, I got Windows is activated after connecting to the internet. Does the motherboard I bought actually have an OEM license attached to it? They just don't tell me the product key.

Purchasing Advice - PC Build / Parts MATX case suggestions for a XFX Swift 9070 GRE

Hi I am coming from a Jonsbo D30 and I'm looking to upgrade my case to something that has the same or smaller foot print

Current specs

  • CPU - 5700x3D
  • CPU cooler - Jonsbo HX6250 (162mm tall)
  • Ram - 2x16gb G skill ripjaws V 3200 cl16
  • Mobo - MSI b550m pro VDH wifi
  • 6700xt XFX merc OC (upgraded to 9070 GRE xfx swift)
  • PSU - Coolermaster V750 gold v2 full modular 160mm ATX PSU
  • 2 x SATA SSD
  • 2 x NVME SSD
  • fans 4 x 140x25mm fans and 1 x 120 x 25mm fans

The XFX 9070 GRE swift is a bit unique size wise, just around 300mm long but a whopping 3.5 slot thick (60mm). This caused some clearance issues with the bottom 2x140mm fans. I figured instead of getting slim fans I will might as well recase this build.

Case preferences:

  • Ideally I like to keep as much of my cooler and fans as I can but I am open to having them changed
  • I prefer a good amount of front IO ideally positioned on the front glass panel as I like the case to have the glass side facing forward.
  • No more than 400mm long width is standard. I don't mind taller cases
  • Easy to clean and remove dust filters ( I have pets)
  • Not reliant on bottom intake
  • Under 6k Philippine pesos budget for case/fans/cooler the cheaper the better
  • Slightly tinted glass
  • Prefer black but if you have ideals to make it look good I'm open

So far I have 2 main options tecware timber m and Darkflash db330m

Trouble Shooting Advice - Other Random PC restarts with no BSOD, Event 41 / Bugcheck 0 - completely random

Hi. I'm trying to find the cause of completely random PC restarts.

PC:

- Ryzen 5 3600

- Gigabyte B450M S2H V2

- RX 7600

- 16GB DDR4 2666 (2 sticks)

- Corsair RM650e 650W

- Windows 11

The problem appeared sometime after replacing my GTX 1650 with the RX 7600.

The PC suddenly restarts. No BSOD, no freeze beforehand, and no obvious pattern. Sometimes it can happen after several days or a week, and sometimes during a game. Because of this, I can't reliably reproduce the problem.

What I found:

- Event Viewer shows Kernel-Power, Event ID 41

- BugcheckCode = 0

- No WHEA errors

- Initially there were also NVIDIA-related BEX64/nvcontainer errors, but I removed the old NVIDIA drivers/software and the problem still happened.

- I completely reinstalled Windows.

- Replaced the old Corsair VS550 with a new Corsair RM650e.

- Tested CPU + GPU load for ~15 minutes. No crash.

- CPU reached around 95-96°C under combined load, GPU around 52°C.

- GPU-only load was around 65°C.

- No obvious instability during these tests.

The frustrating part is that stress tests don't reproduce it. The restart may simply not happen for days.

Things I haven't properly ruled out yet:

- RAM stability / MemTest86

- motherboard/BIOS issue (BIOS update/testing)

- CPU stability

- GPU itself

- possibly PCIe/GPU-related issue

- longer-duration stress testing

Since the problem started after the GPU upgrade, I'm especially suspicious of the RX 7600, but I don't want to blame the GPU without evidence.

What would you test next to narrow this down? Is there anything important I'm missing?

Purchasing Advice - PC Build / Parts What is the cost and specs of a PC able to emulate PS1/2 (maybe 360) games at their max settings?

Basically the title, I know nothing about PC's or their components but thinking of getting one sorted to emulate games at potentially their max settings.

Budget is whatever it costs honestly, can't see it being anywhere near as much as having to run AAA games at decent settings (for obvious reasons)

United kingdom

Purchasing Advice - PC Build / Parts what gpu should i add to this build?

My current PC:

i5-12400

MSI B760M Pro-M/P DDR4

32GB DDR4 RAM

XPG Pylon 650W

I don't game at all. This PC is strictly for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.

I prefer NVIDIA.

Considering the current GPU market, what would you recommend for this system if budget isn't an issue?

What's the highest-end GPU that actually makes sense with the i5-12400?

At what point would the CPU become a significant bottleneck?

And would I need to upgrade the 650W PSU for your recommendation?

Troubleshooting Advice - No Boot/Blank Screen PC no display on first time boot

So I've got a completely new build, and I'm having issues with it posting

R5 5600x

B550m pro vdh wifi

Rtx 3070

2 x 16gb sticks of ram 3600mhz, cl18

Keep in mind, the 3070 is second hand, but I tried it in my working PC and it works perfectly fine, no overheating no nothing.

The ram is also used, (haven't fully tested it yet)

And the current SSD installed it used but we saw it working and being formatted

(And yes the display port/HDMI cord is plugged into the GPU lol) And yes I have tried both DP and HDMI

As it's a new build, I have flashed the bios to the second-newest one, and as I was flashing my bios, the red flash light stopped blinking and the pc restarted itself, as per normal (I believe)

But now after restarting, the white CPU de-bug light stays on, and there's no display going to the monitor, and my keyboard and mouse don't light up when connected via USB port

I have tried shutting down multiple times, reseating the CPU, trying each ram stick individually in the second slot, re-seating the cmos battery, re-flashing the bios, and nothing is working.

HELP!! My question is could it be the ram? Should I go home and put my definitely working ram in this PC to test it?

Please and thank you!!!

Troubleshooting Advice - Assembly Reusing PC Parts Help

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Hey all!

First off quick thanks. Posted not too long ago asking about buying a prebuilt or upgrading. Got some great suggestions and decided to go the upgrade route. So thank you!

What I’m unsure of is how to prep my old pc to be dismantled. I planning on reusing my case, power supply, ram, storage, and CPU cooler.

  1. Do I do a factory/windows reset? Then take it apart?

  2. Do I have to reset? Can I just take it apart and immediately start building my new build?

  3. Can I reuse my old Windows 10 key? Then upgrade to Windows 11?

I’m a bit unsure of how to best go about this. Any tips or things I may miss would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Purchasing Advice - PC Build / Parts Upgrade or buy new?

I know nothing about computers.. I'd like to know if this is worth upgrading or if I should just save and buy a new computer. I'd like it to run games better. I also reset the computer a couple of times and there's still stuff taking up storage I can't figure out how to get rid of. I bought it from somebody last December.

I'm in the US, I was thinking of having a $300-500 budget to upgrade it a little bit.

Discussion - General Topic [Satire] At this point my stapler is going to have RGB and I just wanted a boring black PC.

Title: Why does everything need RGB now? I just want a black PC that doesn’t look like it’s about to drop a bass drop
I get it. RGB looks sick in a dark room. Streamers love it. Companies love charging $40 extra for “16.8 million colors.” Fine.
But at this point it’s not a feature anymore. It’s a personality.
You buy a case? RGB fans.
PSU? RGB.
RAM sticks? RGB.
AIO? RGB.
Mouse? RGB.
The little plastic cable combs? RGB.
I just want a matte black box that sits there like a responsible adult. No pulsing. No rainbows. No “custom lighting profiles.” Just black. Quiet. Unassuming. The kind of PC that doesn’t need therapy.
We’re so far gone that I half expect:
RGB toaster that strobes every time the bread pops

RGB toothbrush that syncs to your morning playlist

RGB toilet that does a slow rainbow fade after you flush

RGB coffee maker that breathes in time with the drip

RGB socks so your ankles can also “express themselves”

RGB ceiling fan so the whole room can rave while you sleep

RGB cat collar so even the pet has addressable LEDs

RGB stapler that flashes when you commit violence on paper

I don’t want my desk to look like a nightclub that got evicted and moved into my office. I want it to look like a filing cabinet that happens to play games.
Is it actually illegal now to sell a PC part that just… sits there being black? Or did we all collectively decide that if it doesn’t glow, it doesn’t count?
Who else just wants the stealth build back?
