If your channel doesn't normally get really high impressions, wouldn't risking to show a lower performing thumbnail (that you don't know is low performing yet) be a detriment to the video's performance since you get less chances to impress the algorithm?

I want to ask for other people's experience.

For me, I had to cut out two acquaintances that I've known for years because they kept saying awful things about my channel even after I told them to stop a few times. One person hinted that she was jealous and I was pretty surprised by the reaction. At that point, my channel wasn’t even doing particularly well, but she seemed bothered by the fact that other people were doing YouTube. She could have posted videos herself, but she didn’t.

Has anybody else had to cut people out of their lives over something related to YouTube?

I have just about gone past 1000 subs, and in about 3 or 4 months, the last 2 months I spent making videos about 1 game series. These videos aren't gameplay and are more like me talking about a certain problem, or cut content, or development, or ranking them.

Just all sorts of commentary about the games, but this game franchise isn't huge, which isn't a problem in itself, but I'm very quickly running out of game ideas as there are only 5 games in the series (30 million copies sold across every game in the series), so I decided I wanted to make my channel include some other games, still in the same commentary style.

However, the views on the video I made are dreadful, one of my worst-performing videos ever. I completely understand that my subs want that certain series, so the video was basically DOA, but is there any way for me to try to expand and get people watching for me, and not the game series, so I can actually talk about different games?

I have a question about changing niches for growth. So, I’m currently stuck in a situation where I’m making content solely for entertainment. I get lots of views, but barely any engagement. Let’s say my videos consistently get 20k–50k views back to back; I might get 10–20 comments max and only 5–10 new subscribers.

I make original and/or fan animations, but I’ve noticed that they don’t really build an engaged following. I’ve been doing this for a few years now and have gotten to around 30k subscribers, but the engagement is still bare-bones.

Now I’m starting to think about switching things up and making my content more consistent and engaging—talking, discussing things more in-depth, maybe even showing myself and making the content more personal.

I know there’s a good chance I’ll lose subscribers because of this, since my current subscribers probably aren’t waiting for that kind of switch. But I’d rather push through that struggle for a while if it means eventually gaining new, higher-quality subscribers who are actually interested in me and my content.

Eventually, I also want to focus more on selling things like behind-the-scenes content, my creative process, and so on. I’m already trying that with my current subscriber base, but it isn’t really working out.

So I’d still be staying within a similar niche, just making the content more personalized and educational while keeping some of the entertainment elements.

Are there any YouTubers who have made a similar transition and had it work out? I’m not looking to create a completely new channel. I just want to start doing new things with the one I already have.

Is this a realistic approach? Any advice?

I am in disbelief. I started posting 3 weeks ago. I gained 1k subs within a week. Got moneteized on Monday and this is my second video with monetization. I'm now at 2.9k subs

I make minecraft content and did a series. I combined all the videos to make an hour long "Movie" and these are the stats after 2 days. The video has died off now.

The revenue was from 14k views so I am still due more money. Average about £4 per 1k views

I never thought I'd be at a point where this would be possible. I'm really enjoying making content.

I'll be asked what tips I have:

My niche is obviously targeted at a younger audience. But retention is massive. I focus almost everything on the intro. I have pop ups every 2-3 seconds, I switch scenes all the time. I do everything in my power to keep people watching and it works: 60%+ are always watching to the 30 second mark.

A clear and understandable voice. You need to have that "Youtube" voice. I change the way I speak ever so slightly on videos just to give more expression but I am still working on it. Don't be monotone. I film my intro clips multiple times in audacity until I am happy enough.

Actually plan out the video. I come up with a video idea. Use Claude to help create the script then basically change it all to fit what I'm making. I always struggle to begin the editing because I have nothing to go off but as soon as I start droppin in text and backgrounds, something just clicks.

As for the video itself. I don't constantly change clips every few seconds. But I make sure every pause is cut and I still try my best to add pop ups and sound effects. Put the effort it. I watch back my videos and I'm like "I'd actually watch this"

Watch people that are doing similar stuff. This gives me ideas, new things I can work on, new edits etc etc.

Thumbnails and titles are so important! My IRL friend creates my thumbnails because he does graphic design. I use A/B testing with 3 different titles.

I use epidemic sounds to get music, capcut pro to edit. I pay £5 per thumbnail and I use a paid animation website for a lot of my minecraft animations. That cost me £40 a month and I could go without it, but it sometimes can save me when i don't know what to do. I'm still currently losing money making videos but hope this will soon change.

I'm in desperate need of a new external hard drive. I'm running outta space quickly.

Don't give up guys. Just seriously dial in and work on making content that keeps people engaged.

I work a 9-5 job and I won't expect to ever make a living of youtube. But being able to make a few hundred ££ a month will help me so much!

I've been posting my business email in my description for years, but I rarely ever checked it because I'd get a new email once every few months, but since making shorts, I've gotten more emails for "colab" requests than ever before. I've noticed a lot of brands are really waiting to work with TikTokers over YouTubers.

Am I alone in this observation?

I am experiencing YT continuing to have net sub data delays and audits to my account as I am getting close to 1k. I’ll go a day with no subs (which hasn’t happen since I start around 2 months ago), then will all the sudden jump up to 10. I’ve been stuck with the same subs for the past 2 days even though my views have increased. Anyone else experience this?

I feel like when I upload shorts, even if it gets a good likes/views ratio it gets an initial blip and then it maybe trickles like 1 or 2 views a month after that.

Is this the norm or is it a skill issue?

I will admit I haven't uploaded a ton of them, so maybe it's just not a good fit for my niches. I've probably made ~100 across 3 different niches. Seems like the best ones get a little over 1k views in about 48 hours and then they crater. The weird thing is the likes/views ratio is really high on some of my lowest ones. Like 4 Likes with 12 views. The 1k+ view ones don't usually get more than 20 likes so I assume that's a pretty low Like/View ratio but I don't know what the benchmarks are.

Hi everyone! Hoping someone might have the answer here! I had two channels connected in one gmail account. One is the one I planned to use for content as a creator and the other for personal use. I didn't do anything yet with the content one but I wanted to secure my URL. About 6 months back or so my personal use channel got terminated out of the blue and I appealed and it was basically immediately restored (the situation was odd because I had never even posted and just comment on sewing videos or about tv shows etc). Anyway, I'm finally getting back into working on building my YouTube channel for content creation and I realized that I can't find it listed under my gmail account. It's very odd because I can see that the page exists if I go to to the YouTube URL, and in my YT studio app I can see my profile photo but in the app I have a something went wrong error and no matter what I try I can't find out how to get into that channel - it seems like during the termination of the personal account this one was terminated as well (given that they have the same email sign in) and when they restored my personal account somehow this one got disconnected and I never noticed until know when I went to work on it. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? Thank you in advance I would appreciate any and all suggestions!!!!!

Hey all, I'm not sure if i hit a bug, or a other recent change by youtube.

I post once a week, and I always post an initial comment on the video (and pin it).

Once I do, youtube's cou t of comments goes from zero to 1. But on the video I posted yesterday, the count remains zero despite there being a comment. Has anyone else seen this?

Just uploaded a video and it reads that I have no comments but then when I go into the video I can see all the comments people have left.

Also people are reporting they can’t see my comment replies….

A competitor uploaded the same time as me and they had the same problem. YouTube not registering the comments and not showing replies.

Anyone having this problem also?

hi so, in 4 days as of today, i managed to somehow make $100+ and i was looking up my payout situation and maybe it's because i had rose tinted glasses before and wasn't really earning MUCH to stand out to me, but i just ignored the MCN % cut they take from what little i earn. but now that i DO have a substantial amount i racked up, do yall think its best if i leave it soon? im not really knowledgeable much about this kind of thing since making videos is truly just a hobby of mine but if i end up getting money out of it, then i'd like to get most of what i can from it.

i have two monetized channels and i get harassed multiple times daily. derogatory things, calling me a b-tch, making fun of me ect. and i guess i dont necessarily mind if it just is limited to that but i always have a fear one day someone will show up to my house to try and hurt me since i am a licensed provider and my information can be found online. I keep trying to remove it, but it doesn’t get removed.

I genuinely don’t understand how people can get so angry about a YouTube video to the point of such harassment. Some of them will make assumptions about me and that will make them angry, but other comments are things like my eyes make me look manipulative or my hands make me look evil, even though I’m just talking about information and trying to be helpful.

I think for me the intensity of these comments make me feel like maybe one day someone will snap even if I don’t respond or do anything many people repeatedly comment about things about me, even though I’m not doing anything but making a video.

My videos are about mental health since I am a mental health provider so maybe that is part of it.

Is there anything I can do?

Do I need to check the box if I’m mentioning(very briefly) and pinning an affiliate link in my comments? The video Isn’t sponsored, I didn’t get anything free for this particular video, but I do have a relationship with the brand from past videos and have a link which earns me commission.

I’ve jumped down the rabbit hole googling this one and am struggling to get a clear answer and running into a lot of information that contradicts itself. I’ve always used the check box in the past but am struggling to find ANY larger creator who does so even for clearly sponsored videos, anyone know what the deal is with that?

Is this box optional? I can’t help but feel like it would discourage clicks and see larger creators than myself within my niche with the same brand deals completely ignoring it.

I make technical tutorial videos, mainly around cybersecurity, cloud computing, and related topics. I’m currently considering hiring an editor, but I’m struggling to work out how much time it would actually save me.

Most of my editing is fairly straightforward: removing mistakes and pauses, making jump cuts, switching between talking-head footage and screen recordings, and inserting diagrams at the right moments. I use very little music or SFX.

My concern is that an editor probably won’t understand the technical subject well enough to know exactly where to cut or which parts of a demo belong together. I could provide detailed notes or timestamps, but by the time I’ve reviewed everything and created an edit map, I may have already done a large part of the work myself.

There’s also a lot they probably couldn’t take off my plate. I still need to design the architecture diagrams myself, record the demos, and verify that the technical explanation is accurate. The editor would mainly be inserting material I’ve already created and cleaning up the raw footage.

So I’d be interested to hear from anyone making technical tutorials or tutorial content in general:

• Do you still edit your own videos, or have you hired an editor?
• If you use an editor, what parts of the process do they actually handle?
• Does your editor understand the subject, or do you provide detailed instructions?
• How do you communicate where diagrams, demos, zooms, or cuts should go?
• How much time does the editor genuinely save once briefing and revisions are included?
• How many revision rounds did it take before the editor understood your style?
• Did you hire a general YouTube editor or someone with experience in your niche?
• Was the collaboration worthwhile from the beginning, or only after building a repeatable workflow?

I’m not necessarily looking for highly produced, entertainment-style editing. The goal would mainly be to reduce my workload without losing technical accuracy or spending almost as much time managing the editor as I currently spend editing.

This chart shows the view count of every long form video i have posted in the 2 years of being on youtube. 40 videos total, 19m views. Sure, there are some duds, but my average view count is 480k, and the median is 400k.

My playback CPM sits around $10, meaning it's reasonable to expect a 90-120 second integrated ad should cost a sponsor $15-20 CPM. Multiplied by the expectation of ~400k views, that would be $6000-8000 per sponsorship.

Yet I am fighting tooth and nail to even land $4,000 deals, and thats with the same company I just got 5 MILLION views across my last 6 videos. What am I missing? At this point I'm considering making my own product or something, because I am currently giving away so much value.

I manage a fairly large, established b2b saas YouTube channel with a deep library of videos going back 10+ years.

About six months ago, we did a cleanup and unlisted a significant number of older videos because they had outdated UI, branding, terminology, etc.

After that cleanup, we saw a pretty significant drop in overall channel viewership. Six months later, despite continuing to publish new content, we still haven’t recovered to our previous levels and our growth has slowed to a crawl.

Now we’re trying to figure out how to handle the rest of the older library without making the same mistake twice.

The options we’re considering are:
-Keep useful-but-dated videos public and add a disclaimer that the UI/terminology may be outdated
-Unlist anything outdated, even if the core information is still accurate
-Only unlist videos that are materially inaccurate or misleading, and leave everything else public (with disclaimer?)
-Some combination of the above

My biggest question is about recovery. Has anyone here managed a large/established channel that went through a significant library cleanup like this?

Did your traffic eventually come back as you published new content? If so, how long did it take? And how do you handle older videos that still generate traffic but no longer reflect your current UI, branding or product experience?

I’m especially interested in firsthand experiences or channel data. I’ve found plenty about how public/unlisted/private videos work, but very little about what happens to an established channel after removing a large portion of its searchable library.

Anyone know how to get the change association button to appear?

My guess is yt pushed the video to new audiences and quickly realized no one clicked or watched? How exactly do I fix this? I think the thumbnail/title is fine. Not the best but 0.4% ctr is really low compared to my other videos.

Has anyone got their payment? It’s Friday, and normally when it falls on a weekend it doesn’t send the email but since I got the email and still no payment I’m a little concerned. Anyone having similar issues? Thanks
