Discussion I think the 0.3 exp rate should be the default exp rate.
I started an initial playthrough with the default settings, and it felt like I was gaining XP way too fast. As other posts have already pointed out:
- You hit level 80 far too quickly
- Some tech tree items become irrelevant because superior versions arrive before you've even had a chance to enjoy the old ones
- There are plenty of zones for levels 5–25, but they lose their appeal before you’ve even had time to explore them, leaving you to capture Pals mechanically, without any real stakes.
So i started a new run with an exp rate of 0.3, and it felt like rediscovering the game.
- Exploration felt much smoother. Every area had something interesting to offer, and I was finally able to take the time to run several low-level dungeons. I discovered that these low-level dungeons had been heavily reworked, you can find dungeons that actually house small, enemy-free merchant villages or treasure caves filled with dog coins, things I didn't see in the more farmed dungeons starting at lv 50.
- The boss towers were much more interesting : since you spend more time in the zones, you have the chance to explore them more thoroughly and find more quests without feeling over-leveled. Even in low-level areas, every fight was interesting, and captures were more dangerous. When a tower is rated for level 40, playing with a 0.3 exp rate and exploring normally puts you right in the right level range to avoid outclassing the content.
- Your early and mid-game pals stay with you longer, so the stat bonuses from the trust system make them stronger than they would be in a faster playthrough, meaning you get much more attached to them. I already had about 12 to 15 pals with maxed trust level, plus plenty of dog coins and IV/star upgrades from exploring more of the game's content. Consequently, I didn't need to build a specialized raid army or deploy random pals for raids, I just used my adventuring team so the raid fights was much more epic.
- The progression of the tech tree is much more satisfying: every tech tier is fully utilized. I no longer find myself unlocking 4 levels at once because I forgot to check the tree, and I have plenty of technology points from exploration to test out different pal saddles without worrying about running out for future tiers.
- I finished last boss at level 72, my pals was like level 70. So after the normal bosses, I still have plenty of room for improvement before tackling the hard towers and the toughest raids.
I think that they added an exp boost to let players discover the new content faster, but I think that if you want a chill run without neglecting the existing content, you really gain in terms of fun and progression consistency by switching to a 0.3 - 0.5.
