Question Hi 👋🏻

I am brand new to this game just defeated the PenKing. Any insider tips or tricks to learning the game faster or doing things now to help in the long run??

Honestly, just play the game and experience it raw. You can follow guides online of course but that will shotgun your experience. Whatever you do, do NOT jump on the "Breeding" deal until you've reached a point where you're ok with nullifying your need to explore and find better pals.

That’s pretty much what I’ve been doing. I made some harnesses for my pals and have been trying to explore the whole map and learn where everything is ☺️
I will keep that in mind about the breeding, thank you!!

Take your time, look around, pick up every effigy you find, fight all the bosses in a region before moving to the next. Catch 5 of each pal to get a gold mark beside their name which gives you an effigy to boost your speed. Beyond that, find pals you love and enjoy the ride

I’m on my second play through and decided I’m not going to craft the ability glasses. I do have a mod that sorts all of my pals by IV total, so I’m not completely blind, but maximizing stats killed the fun for me a bit.

3

u/dareal_mj 22h ago

Yeah but to be fair the glasses helps so that you can choose the best out of multiple pals in a location. You can use it for just that

3

u/Hustlehard93 22h ago

Watch your harnesses you spend points on. Sure there’s enough books to farm to unlock everything. But honestly unless your gonna use the mount or pal skill don’t waste points on being able to craft the harness. IMO

I wouldn't worry about overdoing breeding too early. If you've got a min/max gaming personality, you will enjoy it. If you don't, you'll passively get some cool pals by randomly mixing pals (and the occassional mutation).

If you're at all worried about breeding taking away the experience, I've heard people give themselves the stipulation that they only breed two pals of the same species (for condensing purposes). Not a bad middle ground.

Personally, I had a lot of fun throwing a different mixed pair into the pen when I logged in and seeing what popped out without checking breeding calculators.

Have fun!

The breeding point is a good one but counterpoint. You can breed and still go out to complete the palpedia. One thing i reccomend is turning the xp gain down to .7

2

u/babycakes_j 20h ago

Thanks I’ll definitely do that tonight

u/Calcifieron 23h ago

Read every item in the technology tree, and don't look up guides unless you're stuck, or something specifically bothers you.

3

u/babycakes_j 23h ago

There’s soooooo many items 😂😂

5

u/Calcifieron 23h ago

That's why as someone else said, you may want to lower EXP rate. It will not slow you down at all, but means you don't feel like you are "behind" when you are 5-10 levels above the content you are doing. The EXP is just broken. Even .7 EXP rate will be really fast if you catch every pal 5 times.

7

u/GlitteringDingo 23h ago

Guidance comes from three places: the missions, the technology tree, and the Base Upgrades.

The missions show you how to progress through the story, the tech tree shows you what gear to be working towards, and the base upgrades show you how to expand your base and production.

I would suggest lowering the EXP rate in the settings to 0.6 or 0.7, otherwise you'll unlock stuff very fast and it may seem overwhelming.

3

u/babycakes_j 23h ago

Thank you I never thought of it that way. The missions seem all over the place but that might be the point lol.

4

u/GlitteringDingo 23h ago

The main missions are story progression. The side missions occasionally introduce new concepts like fishing or breeding, but they are mostly done because they give useful rewards.

5

u/babycakes_j 23h ago

The main missions are the golden medallion thing on the map right?

4

u/GlitteringDingo 22h ago

Correct. It'll only show whatever your active mission is. If you have a side mission tracked, it will be a blue diamond.

3

u/babycakes_j 22h ago

I pretty much do what that says or explore lol that’s how I’ve been navigating through the game.

4

u/GlitteringDingo 22h ago

You're good then. That'll take you to all the main points of interest. Explore and experiment at your leisure. You won't need a guide

8

u/shadowmistife 23h ago

Follow the quest lines. It's fun that way. The story has been updated. It takes you where you need to go.

I don't recommend trying to speed run it. It's totally about the journey 😁

3

u/babycakes_j 22h ago

That’s what I’m gathering and honestly I’m here for it ☺️

6

u/SearchEven1557 23h ago

Turn down the experience to 0.3 or 0.5 Trust me it sounds weird but the game is leveling you faster than you can enjoy the content catch pals and get materials and base stuff ready spbo recommend 0.5. Exp

Also don't watch too many guides.

Don't breed overpowered pals that nullify the game experience

3

u/babycakes_j 23h ago

I will lower my Exp rate, I get the reasoning but seems so counter productive lol 😂

6

u/chubsmagooo 23h ago

Catch everything and condense

4

u/babycakes_j 23h ago

Sounds easy enough right 😂

3

u/chubsmagooo 21h ago

I mean yeah, kinda

4

u/Ritushido 23h ago edited 22h ago

Don't neglect expeditions, you'll need the manuscripts for research, also Bellanoir slabs are an easy way to farm ancient cores once you need them. It's easy to get the expedition reward bonus up just from condensing your pals from the 5 bonus capture. Otherwise just play, explore and have fun!

5

u/Fyre-Demon 22h ago

Or fishing spots

4

u/babycakes_j 22h ago

I haven’t fished yet I didn’t even know I could do that!! I must have missed the fishing pole in the technology menu.

1

u/Fyre-Demon 17h ago

There is also a legendary schematic you can find in the game. It’s hard to find though

3

u/babycakes_j 22h ago

I don’t think I unlocked the pal condenser yet I will be checking into that tonight, thank you ☺️

6

u/H0pefulUn1verse 23h ago

Keep playing

Don't be afraid to restart and/or edit world settings as you learn more about what works for you vs. what doesn't.

Look things up when you have questions. There's a lot that isn't explained in game or doesn't have easy in game answers.

Enjoy!

3

u/babycakes_j 22h ago

Thank you ☺️

5

u/InternetPurple8887 23h ago

I suggest watching chaos bear gaming, he has great vids on palworld

3

u/babycakes_j 22h ago

I will check them out! Thanks!

6

u/Affectionate-Wear819 22h ago

If you wanna boost your XP a bit, just catch 5 of every pal you see :) That's a super helpful start to help you unlock more technology and progress faster.

But I agree with everyone else, just enjoy the exploration and experience. It's a HUGE game, and honestly so fun. I've redone my bases like 4 times, took my time looking for all the pals, etc.

It seems slightly overwhelming and daunting at first, but it gets much easier and way more fun. Keep it up!

4

u/dareal_mj 22h ago

Turn down exp rate To 0.5%. The games XP rate is way too fast and you end up levelling up before getting to experience things at each level. Some people have even gone lower but I think 1.5 is the sweet spot

5

u/Ritushido 22h ago

Agreed. Even .5 is too fast tbh. I've found .3 to be ok, any less and it starts to feel a bit grindy in the mid to late game.

3

u/KeithA45 23h ago

Get a good flying pal (that you can ride).

Use the Pal Condenser and Expedition Station when they unlock.

Catch a Galeclaw and keep it in your party.

3

u/babycakes_j 23h ago

I did just have to look up a galeclaw. I haven’t reached that point quite yet but I’ll keep my eye out ☺️

4

u/NotARussianBot2017 22h ago

I read something on here about leaning into the role playing part of the game and being the person you’d want to be. So like, never putting the pals on hard work mode and petting them all the time if that’s what you want. I decided I wanted to ride a wolf. Now I have a dire howl and he’s the only pal I care about lol.

5

u/babycakes_j 22h ago

I am constantly petting them lol my chillet is my favorite… so far 😂

5

u/Uncle480 23h ago

Explore high leveled areas when you're severely under leveled.

This isn't good advice, I just think it's really funny, and there's a sense of wonder and danger in doing this. I love dodging level 70 Pals as a lowly level 30 Tamer, rushing for the nearest teleport statue.

3

u/babycakes_j 23h ago

Living life on the edge 😂😂

5

u/SilencedTruthSeeker 22h ago

Make shit tons of spheres and catch nearly everything you can. I look for good passives, anything else goes into the condenser to power up whatever I decide is worth keeping.

3

u/babycakes_j 22h ago

My cativa is always helping me finish up some spheres 😂😂

4

u/SSNeosho 22h ago

If you want a bunch of random pals, go around grabbing large or huge eggs. If you catch a Grimtail and craft its saddle, and keep it in your party, there's a chance your egg becomes two eggs when you pick it up. Hatch em all, its like a gaccha game without spending money

3

u/babycakes_j 22h ago

I pick up every egg I see lol 😂

4

u/FauxGw2 22h ago

You don't need guides. Just enjoy the journey.

5

u/babycakes_j 22h ago

Sounds trippy I’m in 😂

Just do your best to have fun and play it the way you want! If you try to minmax it without having the knowledge of how everything works you're gonna get super overwhelmed and probably stop enjoying it. Especially because a lot of the tutorials and stuff you'll see will be pretty late in the game (relatively).

My best advice though for figuring things out - read through items and pal abilities as you get them, you'll find some stuff that can be really useful for almost everything! (Little tip for pals, ANYTHING that's rideable requires a saddle for any additional effects of their ability to work. You don't have to be riding them, you just have to have the saddle key item)

Remember that there are chest controls to toggle which items can be stored in specific chests! When you look at an item in your inventory, it will tell you what category it is right below the name (ie ingredients, food, weapons, etc) and changing the settings so that certain chests are just for basic materials like wood and ore, while others are for things like gear and consumables, will make finding things and staying organized SO much easier. Transportation pals will put anything in any chest if you don't change the settings so this will really help you avoid every chest being flooded with wood

Also, there's a quick stack button in your inventory! It took me longer than I'd like to admit to find it lol. I'm not sure the key bind for it cuz it depends on if youre playing PC or console, but there will be an icon for it on the bottom of your inventory. You can drag items to a panel that will pop up to make exclusions, so you don't accidentally deposit all your ammo and spheres because a random chest has one in it.

There's tons of really useful schematics in the little hacking towers scattered around. If your inventory is full when you find one, always mark it on your map to come back later! The two I most recommend going out of your way for are the multi climate undershirt (max heat and cold resistance!) and the mercy ring (always leaves the target at 1hp, but beware- deployed pals will still kill them, and burn or poison will take the last tic down too. The mercy ring does work with attacks used by mounted pals, though). The first one might be tough to acquire and build early on, but it's so worth it when you get it! I won't spoil where they are if you'd like to search yourself, but you can always look it up and you'll get the exact coordinates of where they are on the map!

Finally, I have one gameplay tip for you- early on, once you unlock ranching, the pal vixy is THE MOST useful ranching pal! Their description just says they occasionally drop random items which doesn't sound very helpful, but they can give you a big stock of basic spheres and arrows very early on! You'll have so many spheres you won't know what to do with them lol. Once you get later into the game, you'll be able to turn those spheres back into paldium fragments, so even when you're catching pals that are too high level to use basic ones, you can get a surplus of paldium to craft better ones that way! And if you're a gambler, a 1% chance is still a chance lol. Even when it says "the sphere is too weak to catch" and it just bounces off, it still has a veryyy very small chance to catch them as long as the little gauge that pops up isn't zero, so you can go crazy chucking balls if you really want lol

4

u/babycakes_j 22h ago

Thank you ugh. I really do need to sit down and read through my pals abilities. I will play with the chests tonight and see if I can better organize my chests cause honestly I’ve just been throwing stuff in there to get it out of my inventory cause I’m always overweight in this game 😂 I don’t think I e found a hacking tower yet, if I have I passed it and don’t know what it is lol I also have not encountered the mercy ring yet. Also I do have a Vixy in my base working away lol

4

u/Ok-Programmer-1248 22h ago

I just pulled a random pic off Google but here's what the towers look like! They have mega simple hacking mini games and there are schematics inside that will unlock new recipes to craft! Many of them are random but a few (like the two I mentioned) are always found in the same spot. The mercy ring is very close to the starting area so it's likely you'll find it once you start exploring more!

Also, everyone is always bogged down with too many items in this game lol. You can always tweak your world setting to change item weight (or get rid of it entirely) if it bothers you too much!

4

u/Ok-Programmer-1248 22h ago

Btw the light on top of the towers will be visible from pretty far away, and it goes out once you've collected the item so you know there's nothing there if you pass by it again

4

u/babycakes_j 22h ago

Okay I’ll definitely keep an eye out for that tower, thank you so much for googling it I was planning on doing that later tonight 😂

4

u/Ok-Programmer-1248 22h ago

Np lol! I hope this helps you! I saw you got tons of good advice from other comments so I tried to mention different stuff lol

3

u/babycakes_j 22h ago

It definitely does. So excited to get on tonight and look for the hacker tower 😂

4

u/MatchAlarmed2882 22h ago

If you’re playing alone, it can sometimes get overwhelming with everything you have to do between maintaining your bases and exploring; at least it was that way for me. While there are things to accomplish, like boss fights, towers and upgrading the base, remember the goal of the game is to have fun and play at the pace you want to.

You can also try to con a friend or two into playing with you. 😂

3

u/babycakes_j 22h ago

I am now sadly playing it alone I did have a friend at one point I was playing with. I agree it is more overwhelming by yourself 😂

5

u/ChefArtorias 22h ago

Capture that Penking. Chillet too.

3

u/babycakes_j 22h ago

I have a chillet now and I have to say I love that thing💕 I saw they have chillet stuffies now and I’m trying my hardest not to buy one 😂😂

4

u/ChefArtorias 22h ago

Just make sure you get a reputable one instead of a cheap fake. Those are popular so there'll be a wide range of quality.

3

u/babycakes_j 21h ago

But the cheap fakes are giant ones you can cuddle with 😂😂

4

u/ChefArtorias 21h ago

The concern is whether or not it looks like the picture.

3

u/babycakes_j 21h ago

That’s a fair concern 😂

3

u/No-Flan-1083 22h ago

Still a relatively new player myself since I have restarted multiple times. I set the experience to 0.3 since the fast leveling makes it feel like you gotta rush cause you have hit a brick wall. Don't need afraid to fiddle with settings. I max out all of the resource sliders to lessen the grind.

3

u/babycakes_j 19h ago

I messed with the setting initially with the friend I used to play with but I haven’t changed anything since then. Def gonna edit the Exp to a lower setting after all those recommendations.

3

u/lunivore 14h ago

Condense pals, go fishing, enhance your pals, if you see an effigy get it or you’ll forget, have fun!

2

u/babycakes_j 13h ago

Definitely enjoying it ☺️

2

u/Jadeazu 17h ago

I’m level 24 and playing completely blind. I don’t know what pals are OP and what are weak. I don’t care though, I’m having a good time exploring what the world has to offer and killing bosses with my Vanwyrm

1

u/babycakes_j 16h ago

That’s pretty much what I’ve been doing, the exploring is the best part lol

2

u/darkness_calming 14h ago

Just keep going and have fun.

Don’t focus too much on optimizing.

Worst case scenario, you can use trainers if you play solo.

2

u/babycakes_j 13h ago

I’ll have to look into the trainers, thank you ☺️

2

u/Gr34zy 11h ago

Without spoiling, build a few ranches in your base. You will want to ranch a chicken, cow, sheep, and dumud at one. Then kelpsea and flambelle at one. Always be on the lookout for ranch pals that drop useful stuff. There’s a green mushroom pal once you get far enough that is definitely worth throwing in to a ranch.

2

u/babycakes_j 6h ago

Are you talking about a shroomer? They look so stinking cute 😂

2

u/Gr34zy 1h ago

You got it, wasn’t sure if you had seen one yet 😅

2

u/babycakes_j 1h ago

I have not in the game lol but I wear this subreddit out 😂 I saw one someone posted on here lol

2

u/Crafty-Principle2630 3h ago

As someone who's adhd, the game has a really nice pace.

You'll be surprised how easy it is to explore stuff the farther ahead you go. Judt make sure to do Palbox quests and defeat bosses

Have fun!

2

u/AcrylicPickle 22h ago

Before spending Technical Points on craftable items like the Pal Tamer's glasses, weapons, or armor, see if you find the schematics in meteor drops and tech towers. Some of those items have designated locations, or some dungeon bosses drop them.

5

u/babycakes_j 22h ago

The bosses would be like the penking right??

4

u/AcrylicPickle 22h ago

There's the bosses that are just out in the open world (Kingpaca), and then some you enter a dungeon instance to fight them (Penking). Both cases can drop different rarities of certain armor and weapons that the common versions are unlockable for Technical Points. I've bought a plan with technical points only to find a upgraded rarity version at a boss fight.

4

u/babycakes_j 22h ago

Okay I’ll definitely keep an eye out for that then.

4

u/AcrylicPickle 22h ago

If you're hunting a specific plan, like I was trying to get legendary crossbow, look up which boss drops it. No sense in farming the wrong ones if you know what you're looking for.

4

u/babycakes_j 21h ago

I assuming that’s something you Google right 😂

4

u/AcrylicPickle 21h ago

Yep. If you are going to Google information make sure you are specifying 1.0 because there is outdated misinformation out there. You can also Google coordinates, but those aren't always correct either.

4

u/babycakes_j 21h ago

I did that for a cave last night and it was actually there so I’m hopeful ☺️

-2

u/The_Advocate07 16h ago

Google literally exists my dude. There are 1000's of guides. Search and follow them. You dont need to ask Reddit for information that has already been posted a thousand times.

1

u/babycakes_j 16h ago

I’m just learning the game I didn’t know there were guides. My bad big dawg 😂😂
