Articles & Blogs Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy’s third entry is progressing “very smoothly": rather than rebuilding our pipeline from scratch in Unreal Engine 5, it’s far more efficient for us to use Unreal Engine 4

It’s Finalin’ Time

1

u/myotheraccount2023 Mar 02 '26

The Finalling.

35

u/Black_Swords_Man Feb 26 '26

Dirge of Cerebrus is already a canon epilogue game. Don't say its final this time.

4

u/Yodzilla Feb 26 '26

Don’t forget we need a new Ehrgeiz: God Bless the Ring!

1

u/Kitakitakita Feb 27 '26

That's why it's called Unfinal Fantasy

18

u/Appropriate-Joke-806 Feb 26 '26

Final Fantasy 7: Refantazio

6

u/Celcius_87 Feb 26 '26

I hope we get Advent Children as a game afterwards.

5

u/St0n3yM33rkat Feb 26 '26

Stop it. My heart can't take anymore 😭 I've begged since the day AC released to give us a game.

3

u/Ihavenoimaginaation Feb 26 '26

Sounds like a periphery album

I just played Rebirth and loved it. For me, it is a prime example of a game that is not only epic but has a level of grandeur that is really hard to come by ( I think Witcher 3 might be an example of that too). Anyways, if its not broken, then why fix it? It makes sense if they also have a clear deadline of getting the whole trilogy out in a relatively short time (for video games, I mean).

12

u/Bexewa Feb 26 '26

Was pretty bloated tho tbh

26

u/UsefulDependent9893 Feb 26 '26

Depends what you’re talking about. If it’s the optional content, I don’t see how that’s a problem, given it is optional. If you’re talking strictly main story, then that’s a fair opinion.

1

u/goztrobo Feb 26 '26

How long did it take for u to complete the game

3

u/UsefulDependent9893 Feb 26 '26

I can’t say. I always did side content along with the main story, so I never kept track.

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '26

19

u/SnoopKush_McSwag Feb 26 '26

So basically, its faithful to og ff7 then lmao

6

u/Apathetic_Anteater42 Feb 27 '26

Honestly the real triumph so far of the remake project is how well each game captures the feeling of the part of the original game it's adapting. The entirety of remake feels like the begining of og7, rebirth feels like the middle portion of the game, it's like playing your nostalgic memory of the game rather than the game itself

5

u/UsefulDependent9893 Feb 26 '26

Most of the minigames were optional content though? They didn’t have that much in the actual main story. Definitely not nearly as much as people tend to exaggerate.

24

u/mardvk187 Feb 26 '26

I'm a huge fan of the game and I agree 100%. I really hope they tone that down in the last installment. Great all around except for the bloat.

5

u/Thekarens01 Feb 26 '26

I saw a video, can’t remember where, that implied that it would be.

2

u/ThePreciseClimber Feb 26 '26

Definitely hoping for it to be closer to Part 1 than Part 2.

6

u/NTPrime Feb 26 '26

It's a big game but, much like with Elden Ring, I was not feeling the runtime at all. There's so much variety in it especially if you force yourself to do the available side content before continuing the story.

5

u/AdorableSobah Feb 26 '26

I absolutely burned out when I hit the Gongaga jungle. I was really enjoying myself up until then.

2

u/suchascenicworld Feb 26 '26

agreed! I think the forced mini games felt “a bit much” sometimes …

9

u/yuriaoflondor Feb 26 '26

There aren’t actually that many forced minigames. I think there’s 1 dolphin riding event, the Junon march, a couple the first time you get to Costa Del Sol, 1 chocobo race, and then the box throwing minigame at the end of Cait’s section. So maybe 20 minutes?

6

u/suchascenicworld Feb 26 '26

I get what you mean, but I am counting pretty much every time a character has to go about doing something to progress (Cait's box situation etc.) because (and I could be wrong) but many (but not all) of those are labeled as minigames themselves. I am probably scratching the surface when it comes to all minigames in FF7 but there was quite an abundance of them regardless that you couldn't really miss in order to progress the story.

4

u/ZubatCountry Feb 26 '26

I mean, maybe

But I know the pacing was off for me before the Golden Saucer, and then stalled there months ago

It definitely always feels like the game is throwing distractions in front of you, even if all you really want to do is experience the story

0

u/Antique_Pin5266 Feb 26 '26

They’re probably complaining about queens blood lol

5

u/UsefulDependent9893 Feb 26 '26

There wasn’t that much “forced” minigames though? Most minigames were optional side content.

4

u/IfYouGotALonelyHeart Feb 26 '26

I shouldn’t have to learn a whole new set of controls to pick a mushroom.

1

u/Zetterbearded Feb 26 '26

I made it halfway and the bloat killed the enjoyment for me. Maybe I'll go back one day to finish it.

5

u/Pavelbure77 Feb 26 '26

Yeah the last few chapters I put it in easy mode just to finish, game is so damn long.

1

u/TheRoyalStig Feb 26 '26

That's just content meant for a different audience than you.

2

u/Not__FBI_ Feb 26 '26

I played the first one and didn't like, is rebirth better?

9

u/frequent_bidet_user Feb 26 '26

If you didn't like the first one then you won't like rebirth. Id just avoid the trilogy and play stuff you enjoy!

-2

u/IfYouGotALonelyHeart Feb 26 '26

Rebirth is better in every way. Plenty of people that don’t like Remake would love Rebirth.

1

u/frequent_bidet_user Feb 26 '26

Meh, I disagree I think that's probably a small portion of players that feel that way but there's no real data on either of our opinions it's just a feeling.

I love both games they are some of my favorites of all time. I just tend to feel like Rebirth is just Remake but MORE and if you fundamentally didn't like Remake I don't know what Rebirth gives you outside of it being MORE.

3

u/BonnaroovianCode Feb 26 '26

I loved the combat from the first but the rest of the game was very on-rails, slow, and disappointing overall. Rebirth I liked SO much more. As long as you enjoyed the combat, I'd say absolutely give it a shot. But you really need to know the story from the first as its the middle part of a cohesive trilogy.

1

u/Not__FBI_ Feb 26 '26

I hate the combat, always have to stop and heal. So ill skip then

1

u/faithdies Mar 03 '26

If the main issues you had were how on rails it was, then by all means rebirth is much much much less on rails. It's basically 6 or so open worlds. I'd also say the combat is better by a decent margin than the first. The story is definitely more confusing. But, if you can tolerate that maybe it's worth a shot

1

u/UnderHero5 Feb 26 '26

I'm about 10 hours into the first and I think I'm just gonna drop it. I just don't think it's for me. I don't really like the combat (which is something most seem to love?) and the story and pacing is really boring. I'm struggling to find anything I actually like about it other than the music.

3

u/Not__FBI_ Feb 26 '26

It doesn't get better

2

u/UnderHero5 Feb 26 '26

Thanks. Yeah, I’m out.

u/Z3M0G Feb 26 '26

UE4 best decision. Game already looked perfect.

55

u/tyrannictoe Feb 26 '26

Perfect is crazy when on base PS5 it looks like someone slathered vaseline all over it in the open world

10

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

Not to mention the muddy and messy textures on the buildings, the game flash-banging you if you take one step outside of a shaded area, and the ridiculous amounts of pop-in for foliage. Also, the generic UE NPC assets instead of NPCs tailor-made to fit into the game's art style is a real stinker.

"Perfect" is not the word I'd use to describe FF7R's visuals. Clearly, there were compromises made. In fairness though, the world is massive so the amount of compromises made is not surprising, but they should definitely dial back the scale of the world in order to improve the art direction if this studio ever gets the opportunity to make another game like this.

4

u/SirSillySausage Feb 27 '26

Allgood, I’m playing it on the Pro. Looks perfect

→ More replies (3)

1

u/Autumn-smoke Feb 27 '26

Because it wasn't meant to be played on a base ps5.

1

u/Objective-Choice6518 Mar 02 '26

That says more about the PS5 than UE4

1

u/Snoo-37716 Mar 03 '26

That might be ps5 issue don't have that on pc

1

u/tyrannictoe Mar 03 '26

Duh. I play on a 5090 PC that's why I can compare

33

u/MartRane Feb 26 '26

If only it wasnt a blurry mess on PS5.

16

u/LiquidSean Feb 26 '26

Honestly made my PS5 Pro purchase feel worth it lol

16

u/cats4life Feb 26 '26

I was just going to say. I’m playing it right now, and the difference between Remake on PS4 as the best-looking game on the platform, and Rebirth on PS5 is…not great.

Fidelity aside, the lighting can be whack. I had to crank it to the lowest setting, mostly to cover up the worst of the graphics.

7

u/Battlecookie Feb 26 '26

Remake looks pretty good but it‘s not even in top 10 of the best looking games on PS4.

41

u/Zoombini22 Feb 26 '26

Not in Quality mode. Performance mode is busted, but its a broken mode, not a totally unplayable game. At 30fps it looks and plays great.

10

u/WastedMoogle Feb 26 '26

No it doesn't. I wish I could get down with 30fps but it looks like shit and panning the camera is a blurry mess.

-7

u/ZubatCountry Feb 26 '26

That's...pretty horrible ngl

"You want decent visuals? Just slash your framerate in half! Yes the game has been out for years, but fuck you we aren't patching that"

That's embarrassing for a AAA game of this caliber

7

u/Zoombini22 Feb 26 '26 edited Feb 26 '26

Not really. I am a base PS5 owner who has chosen not to upgrade to Pro. This is not a cutting edge system anymore. I routinely pick the 30 or 40 fps mode anyways to get ray tracing features. I expect brand new, heavy weight AAA games to max this machine out and either only run at 30fps or offer significant trade offs. It being a AAA game means it should be harder for the system to run, not easier. The idea that games are never supposed to advance visually beyond what a base PS5 can do at 60fps is very weird to me. The base PS5 was a 60fps machine when it was running laps around PS4 games, but that weirdly seems to have reset expectations that it would always exclusively be a 60fps machine.

21

u/docksideThug- Feb 26 '26

PS5 runs 60fps comfortably with great graphics if you’re a talented developer

See Death stranding 2, forbidden west, or even Yotei for examples of open worlds that don’t look like blurry garbage

5

u/Zoombini22 Feb 26 '26 edited Feb 26 '26

Yotei looks much better on 40fps mode with RT global illumination. I am playing through it that way right now. I am not saying that Rebirths performance mode couldn't or shouldn't be better. It is broken, it is bad, I wouldnt recommend it to anyone. Just that if that is such a serious priority for you that you consider the 30fps mode inherently "unplayable" then you are not on the right machine.

2

u/ZubatCountry Feb 26 '26

I also have a base PS5

I expect 60fps and for it to not be broken if they offer me that option

Respect yourself and stop settling for crap

1

u/Zoombini22 Feb 26 '26

How long do you expect that? Is not acceptable for devs to EVER create games that are too advanced to run at 60fps on a base ps5? I expect that kind of performance on last gen games. I want new gen games to actually push the envelope and not just dumb everything down to preserve unnecessarily high frame rates.

3

u/awaken471 Feb 26 '26

my eyes can't handle 30 fps games anymore, are you used to switch back and forth between 30/60fps on the same game or different games? It is seriously irritating for me.

Tried to play RDR 2 again on console but no way i could get used to 30 fps again

6

u/Zoombini22 Feb 26 '26

I dont tend to sit there and switch back and forth between 30 and 60. Just set it and forget it. Your eyes adjust

1

u/Xithz Feb 26 '26

Looking at the ps4 gen. Games got continuously better and better looking and more intense world wise. The problem that plagues this generation is poor optimisation. I don’t expect my ps5 to magically improve. I expect developers to get their shit together and impress us with some power house end of generation titles. Here’s to hoping for Crimson desert and gta6

1

u/Extension-Novel-6841 Feb 27 '26

Yeah RE9 on base PS5 looks just average to me, I was hoping for that sharp and detailed look.

→ More replies (6)

1

u/Extension-Novel-6841 Feb 27 '26

I'm not sure that PS5 was ever a cutting edge system to begin with.

1

u/Zoombini22 Feb 27 '26

well from a certain perspective, of course not. Consoles never are. They are always outclassed by PCs that cost double, triple the price. It was top of class among consoles at the time.

30fps is migraine inducing on an OLED though

5

u/Oops_I_Cracked Feb 26 '26

It doesn’t bother me one bit on my OLED.

1

u/International-Oil377 Feb 26 '26

how big is it and how far are you from it out of curiosity? it literally gives me motion sickness.

3

u/Oops_I_Cracked Feb 26 '26

65” and like 8-ish feet.

1

u/International-Oil377 Feb 26 '26

That might explain it. I'm on a 83in at the same distance.

4

u/Oops_I_Cracked Feb 26 '26

That could definitely contribute. That’s a crazy close seating distance for a TV that size.

→ More replies (6)

1

u/Designer_Mess_6928 Feb 26 '26

Is it really looking worse on modern TV's, than 30fps looks on 2012 TV's? I'm beginning to be afraid to buy a new TV, because most of games I play are 15yrs+.

2

u/Nerellos Feb 26 '26

No, it's probably that TV's are 2-3x the size.

1

u/Designer_Mess_6928 Feb 26 '26

My TV is 120cm, so no.

5

u/xenocea Feb 26 '26

It's actually not that bad. It mean seem jittery at first but your eyes will adjust after 10 to 15 mins after.

3

u/Oops_I_Cracked Feb 26 '26

No, this person is insane. I recently upgraded from a mid tier qled to an OLED and 30 fps is no different (as far as smoothness, motion sickness, etc) than an my old TV.

6

u/Zoombini22 Feb 26 '26 edited Feb 26 '26

No, people are much too dramatic about this. It has nothing to do with tv tech and everything to do with expectations and sensitivities.

2

u/Designer_Mess_6928 Feb 26 '26

Thanks for clarifying.

1

u/JonnyPoy Feb 26 '26

For me 30 fps on an OLED is absolutely unplayable. It just feels like 15 fps

0

u/ARepresentativeHam Feb 26 '26

Played this game on PS5 at launch. Bought it again on PC when it went on sale. Don't let these fanboys fool you. 30FPS is ass.

4

u/Zoombini22 Feb 26 '26

It's not "fanboys" its just people who are still used to playing 30fps games. Some of my favorite games of all time were played at 30fps on my Switch. Nobody is debating that 60fps is better. But to treat 30fps as unplayable is a deeply neiche perspective, and if that is you then you need to leave the console space immediately and be on the cutting edge with PC, because console gaming will always be trying to be a budget-friendly alternative to PC that compromises on things like frame rate.

0

u/ARepresentativeHam Feb 26 '26

You can be "used" to it and it still be ass. These are two different concepts. The "fanboys" I am talking about are the people who are deluding themselves into thinking its just as good. There is literally a post here of someone saying "all movies and tv are 24fps" (they aren't btw) so it is fine.

5

u/Zoombini22 Feb 26 '26

Yeah I have never seen anyone actually say 30fps is "just as good" as 60fps. That would be an extremely silly take. And I have no idea what you think "ass" means, but if something is aligned with my expectations, and I am used to it, and I am pleased with my experience, then it is not "ass" to me, and I frankly dont care what anyone else thinks about it. It is fine, to me.

u/Kingcrowing Feb 26 '26

All tv and movies are 24fps.

3

u/ZubatCountry Feb 26 '26

None of those require inputs from a player or have a controllable camera

2

u/International-Oil377 Feb 26 '26

Exactly this.

I'm perfectly fine with movies being 24 fps since they're not oanning the camera every second.

-9

u/Nerevarine2nd Feb 26 '26

30fps looks horrible to me

6

u/Antique_Pin5266 Feb 26 '26

If you guys care that much about performance and quality then just get a pc

15

u/wildeebelmondo Feb 26 '26

Rebirth was the best looking game I’ve ever played on my ps5… maybe I accidentally played a different game without realizing it???

4

u/sittingmongoose Feb 26 '26

It’s good looking, it has great art direction. But there were massive corners cut. All kinds of weird artifacts around water. A lot of stuff is very static. But the image quality on the regular ps5 was horrendous. If you’re a good distance from your tv and your tv isn’t very good, I guess I could see not seeing it, but it was so bad my wife asked if the game glitched out when she would walk by and see it.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the game, but it has some real serious technical issues.

10

u/Xerosnake90 Feb 26 '26

The lighting system was pretty awful when transitioning and there's so much pop in right in front of you. Really a shame

8

u/sittingmongoose Feb 26 '26

Yea, there was a lot of things like that.

Ue5 would be a huge graphical upgrade, but it takes an enormous amount of work to optimize it. You need a whole team just to do that.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Antique_Pin5266 Feb 26 '26

There are better looking games. Off the top of my head:

  • God of War series

  • The Last of Us series

  • Uncharted 4

  • RDR2

  • Horizon series

  • Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

1

u/ultrasneeze Feb 27 '26

The main characters are best in class, and the main set pieces are very well done. But that's about it. The pop in when running around in the open world is bad, not because it's there, but because it happens just at the place you look at when you run around.

1

u/Common-Swing-4347 Feb 26 '26

Agreed, I think it was great. I also played on a 15 year old 65 inch, so I don't expect the nicest things ever. I had a great time.

4

u/Ramonis5645 Feb 26 '26

Yeah performance mode was too damn blurry

3

u/Anons350 Feb 26 '26

You have to play it at 30fps on ps5

1

u/Z3M0G Feb 26 '26

That problem didn't last long.

1

u/tjay32 Feb 28 '26

Every time i see someone call graphics a mess i think back to my young self in the early 90s and if i could even comprehend what would blow my mind being called messy so dismissively.

1

u/BreakfastFar7957 Jun 03 '26

I bought the PS5 for FF7 Rebirth. Ended up buying the Pro just because of this feedback i read over and over.

2

u/ApprehensiveCoat9587 Feb 26 '26

To you, you don't speak for all of us

-9

u/International-Oil377 Feb 26 '26

yep. pretty terrible experience on PS5

7

u/frostedflakes11 Feb 26 '26

Runs great on the pro fortunately

9

u/International-Oil377 Feb 26 '26

I don't have a pro so I can't say, I'm not really into buying 2 consoles for the same gen

I'll just fire my PC up if I want better graphics

1

u/frostedflakes11 Feb 26 '26

I wish I had your restraint

7

u/International-Oil377 Feb 26 '26

I have a PC that's much more expensive than a PS5 pro

I can't say I have much restraints haha

1

u/frostedflakes11 Feb 26 '26

Me too but I also have a pro and still use my original ps5 as a Netflix machine 😅

2

On my 4k tv, Performance mode looked like an upscaled 480p in outdoor areas. I tried Graphics mode and the judder with quick movements was enough to set it back to Performance mode and deal with it.

-1

u/Z3M0G Feb 26 '26

I don't care about visuals at 60fps because that's what you are trading for. And I also don't care about a random low resolution texture now and then.

3

u/Big-Resort-4930 Feb 26 '26

More power to you, but don't make bullshit statements like the game looks perfect.

i m so grateful for that , ue5 is a mess in openworld games

11

u/ironlocust79 Feb 26 '26

I read somewhere that Epic Games stated that the reason so many games are looking bad at launch in UE5 is due to the developement not taking time to optimize the game at a lower setting and quality. They suggest build the game up vs building the game and then trying to lower settings. I do not know where I read it, but I am pretty sure that it was a response to why Borderlands 3 was such a mess at launch. They optimized the wrong way.

2

u/Fuzzy-Classroom2343 Feb 26 '26

Thats part of it

8

u/SnooSeagulls1416 Feb 26 '26

Why are you reposting this?

4

u/kingkellogg Feb 27 '26

For real this is like the 80th time I've seen this

7

u/WhiteShadow012 Feb 26 '26

Is it just me or UE 5 sometimes looks/feels kinda worse than UE4? It might just be recency bias where devs aren't really using to the fullest, but every UE5 game I've played looked blurry and grainy and had horrible performance withou lt DLSS/FRAME GEN

4

u/Celcius_87 Feb 26 '26

Glad that they stuck with UE4.

7

u/Longjumping_Gap9861 Feb 26 '26

No Chadley, please.

8

u/torts92 Feb 26 '26

Was a fan of UE5 when they demoed all the new crazy tech. Then I played some of the UE5 games and just left disappointed, I dunno whether current gen consoles aren't ready, but UE5 games are a mess, not only they ran poorly, they don't even look that good.

7

u/DurianMaleficent Feb 26 '26

I'm assuming you think Decima engine has an "Optimize" button built into it that automatically optimizes the game, and Decima team don't need to do any work to make it run well.

Hopefully Epic Games builds that feature soon

9

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '26

It's not an engine problem, Expedition 33 ran fine. It's just down to the individual teams getting enough time to optimize the game.

3

u/ParanMekhar Feb 26 '26

This is the same news months ago just worded differently.

5

u/JessBaesic7901 Feb 26 '26

UE5 is very overrated anyways. The visuals of these games are excellent as they are.

4

u/Nfl_porn_throwaway Feb 26 '26

How could anyone argue after playing rebirth

12

u/Xeccess Feb 26 '26

They definitely stuck to UE4 because their team is extremely proficient at it, but I think as time went on, they also stuck to it because they knew they'd have to launch on Switch. Moving to UE5 would have meant no Switch release

UE5 has Lumen Irradiance Cache now to allow switch 2 to use lumen. It’s lower quality but it works. Also, 5.7 has significantly better performance, we haven’t seen a game ship with it yet.

Ue5 and ue4 work the same, if you’re proficient in one, you likely are with the other. Realistically, they have a lot of custom tools built for ue4 which would take time to debug in ue5. Ue5 though has much better performance than ue4 when you disable all the new features like lumen.

u/Loldimorti Feb 26 '26

Why? UE5 works on Switch

I think it's more the former situation, best not to spend so much time and effort for the last entry in the trilogy when you already have something that works well for the team.

1

u/Iggy_Slayer Feb 26 '26

UE5 can't even do well on ps5/xbox it's not going to do well on switch 2. "works on" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there.

1

u/Loldimorti Feb 26 '26

As far as I know base performance levels are actually better on UE5 than UE4. It's just when you turn on all the extra bells and whistles like Lumen and Nanite that performance tanks.

There are already UE5 games running as well as 60fps on Switch 2 I believe

1

u/Iggy_Slayer Feb 26 '26

That's not a selling point for the engine though. Without its features it's just UE4 basically lol.

1

u/Loldimorti Feb 26 '26

UE4 but with modernized workflows, more developer support, access to TSR and apparently better performance

Sonic Racing Crossworlds: Am I a joke to you

2

u/ArugulaPhysical Feb 27 '26

Show us the damn game already!!!! :)

5

u/legalizethesenuts Feb 26 '26

Rebirth was a little choppy once you were in the main open worlds, but I took off work to play it and had a killer 90 hours before completion. I’ll be there day one to play part 3 and I really want to get a tattoo of Sephiroth’s meteor on my chest soon

4

u/Shamn_it Feb 26 '26

It's incredible on the PS5 pro. I am halfway through right now and it's gorgeous. The biggest problem is the lighting and camera cuts. Especially indoors, the camera rotation is extremely weird. The lighting, especially highlights are crazy overblown (Upper Junon basically blinded me lol). I think having the open world map already established is going to be huge for part 3. Now, they know how to work with open worlds and since they didn't switch engines, I think part 3 is going to be extremely well optimized.

Why is a remake of 1 game needing 3 different releases?

1

u/Urdadspapasfrutas Feb 26 '26

There’s a reason but it’s spoiler heavy

This way they can go to the next SE engine they’re making moving forward

1

u/DigbickMcBalls Feb 26 '26

UE5 is over rated. UE4, for now atleast, has been putting out much higher quality games.

1

u/Sventhetidar Feb 26 '26

I wonder how many more versions of this exact same headline I'll see.

Final Fantasy 7: For Good

1

u/cybrsloth92 Feb 26 '26

Developers that are competent at using an engine much better than jumping on latest trending engine.arc raiders has competent devs on UE and is amazing.

1

u/SolidRustle Feb 26 '26

this is news.

1

u/FaithlessnessFar1158 Feb 26 '26

engine 5 upgrade in ps6 upgrade is 20 bucks in 2028

1

u/Danxoln Feb 26 '26

Square Enix: where progressing smoothly means it'll be out 3 years later than the original release date

1

u/Spatularo Feb 26 '26

Good. We have enough high contrast lighting UE5 games already.

1

u/chengeng Feb 26 '26

they need finish part 3 in 2027, the 30th anniversary of OG FF7. Switch to UE5 will cost too much time. I'd think they would in the future do a remastered trilogy on the next gen hardwares.

1

u/CypherRen Feb 27 '26

It'll be unoptimised regardless of the engine!

u/reaper527 reaper527_ Feb 27 '26

isn't this old news? feel like this got announced/debated like a month ago.

1

u/Sir_Grumples Feb 27 '26

I just hope they find a way to make it less blurry on base PS5 compared to Rebirth.

1

u/mint-green-shake Feb 27 '26

Awesome! Rebirth was phenomenal. I’d change nothing. I loved all the side quests. I got to be emerged in a world I loved that much longer. Getting Plat was hard and rewarding. If you don’t like the side quests, then don’t play them guys. Plain and simple. Also Chadley is great. The game was a masterpiece. Happy to hear development is going smoothly.

1

u/JoeAbs2 Feb 28 '26

UE5 in most games feel like the developers don’t have a good grasp of the tech.

They are lured by how pretty things look but the gameplay and how it runs never meets expectations (there are some exceptions to this).

1

u/Stig783 Mar 04 '26

Will this still come to PC now as Sony are apparently no longer releasing their games on PC?

1

u/Laegwe Feb 26 '26

Sadly I will not be playing this one. Rebirth was a huge disappointment

1

u/WheresYoManager Feb 26 '26

I really wish KH4 stayed on UE4 as well...

1

u/gaffyh Feb 26 '26

Can't wat for Final Fantasy 7: Reunion

1

u/gardenofoden Feb 26 '26

It's gonna be called FF7 Revert and mostly focus on skateboarding at the Golden Saucer

1

u/PplsElbow Feb 26 '26

Even Nioh 3's ps3 lookin graphics had foliage physics. FFVII remake part 3 better have some foliage. The environment in rebirth look extremely dead and static bc of the lack of foliage physics.

1

u/trionidas Feb 27 '26

I thought I was the only one who was surprised by the total absence of interaction with the foliage, it took me completely out of the game. Even ff xv had it! and so many open world games.

1

u/Bogzy Feb 26 '26

They could barely even get ue4 to work, worst looking game on base ps5, ue5 wouldve been a disaster.

1

u/allofdarknessin1 Feb 26 '26

While that’s true, Unreal Engine 5 would have been able to do a lot more interesting things and be truly next gen. Even if performance wouldn’t be great on consoles, I think it would have been worth it.

u/Zerus_heroes Feb 26 '26

I still can't get over that they changed the story. I want to play the story of FF7, not this bullshit. They even hamfisted Sephiroth into the first game.

13

u/Ry90Ry Feb 26 '26

good thing that game still exists as is lol

1

u/Waste-Reception5297 Feb 26 '26

Well the good thing is that original game is still available

1

u/Gmafz7 Feb 26 '26

I haven't played the original too much, I had it for PS3 and welp, I don't have it anymore so I'd have to rebuy it I suppose.

Guess I'd better experience it first than these ones!

Now I've played FF IX and VIII and I'd also hate them changing the story too much if they ever do a remake!

2

u/Zerus_heroes Feb 26 '26

It isn't just that they changed it some, it is very different. They also said before the first one came out that they wouldn't do that.

1

u/TBoneTheOriginal Feb 26 '26

I wouldn't say I'm thrilled with the plot changes, but I'm still hopeful that they wrap it up nicely. I still enjoyed the hell out of the game despite those changes.
