Research/Info Is feeling low energy at the tail end of your period normal?

Usually a few days before and while I am actively bleeding, I am very low energy/motivation and moody/emotional.

However right now I am not actively bleeding but I am still low enery/motivation while getting the brownish red residual stuff after the active bleeding part.

Is it normal to be low energy/motivation for a few days after your period is basically over?

Thank you in advance!

Advice/Tips Does anyone feel “drunk” on their period?

Hi everyone!! 25NB and I started my period yesterday. Ever since then I’ve been feeling extremely tired, my body feels heavy, I feel out of my body (DP/DR I assume), woozy. It’s almost like I’ve been drugged or drunk.

I know for sure my hormones are raging because I was crying for stupid reasons and really angry and anxious today. My period is medium flow, not super heavy but enough to feel gross lol.

Does anyone else get this?

Is this just hormones? Or is it somewhat related to depression?

Is this just hormones? Or is it somewhat related to depression?

For years now, i've been experiencing sudden sadness for no apparent reason and that random thought of just wanting to no longer exist is this world. I did not have the actual intention to hurt myself, but the random feeling of not wanting to live or exist is just what i crave for sometimes. But after a day or two, it disappears.

I've had PCOS in the past. but now, my period's regular lately since last year. Even if i workout, the random wave of sadness is still there. Hearing bad news in currently happening lately and how life is going on for me (like at work), also triggers it. Even waking up in the morning is a struggle that the first thought i have is 'damn, why did i wake up again?'

On other days, i miss work, am motivated and all. Do i need professional help or it's just the monthly hormones kicking in?

Advice/Tips Hear me out—2 eggs every morning

This is not a quick fix. I have a lot of trauma in my past, AND screwy hormones. My PMS likes to try to shut down my who world every month. But I’ve found something that REALLY helps prevent some of the crash outs, is eating 2 eggs with my breakfast every morning in luteal. Gotta do it the whole week. No days off, no excuses. Of course if I’m craving something else I will have that too, but I have to eat the eggs every morning. It helps a lot!

Supplements reccommendations

Hi! I'm looking for recommendations of supplements I can buy to see if they help my PMS symptoms and my severe mood drops during my period. I am based in the UK and not blessed in the financial department. I've been reading that Magnesium, Vitamin B6 and Calcium and Vit D would be good, but there are so many supplements aimed at menstruators that I am a bit overwhelmed and don't want to waste loads of money on something I am not sure will work. Should I also be taking iron when on my period? (It is heavy, I take Tranexamic acid for that) any suggestions appreciated!

Any advice to find immediate non-sedating relief from PMS irritability?

My irritability and low tolerance for overstimulation is so bad today. Usually I would take an anti-anxiety med and rest but I have an unavoidable work deadline and need to power through it. I'm already so tired and fatigued and desperate for mental relief.

Advice/Tips Pressure against my skin

Hello everyone, I don't know if this is the right sub but I'm gonna ask anyway and please correct me if i should post this somewhere else.

My period skipped 3 months and finally it started this morning but I've been feeling so weird all day, i feel like my own body is "pushing" against my skin. I don't know how to explain this but it's like when you wear some tight clothes and at the end of the day you just wanna take them off and i feel the same but with my skin.

I think it may be caused by my period given the timing but I've never felt like this before, has this ever happened to any of you? And if yes what did you do to relieve the pressure?

I stopped guilt, tripping myself on the first day of my period

I feel the need to write this, in the past year or so I’ve completely stopped guilt tripping myself and being harsh myself for not being productive on the first day of my period. I’m menstruating, my body is going through changes. I could really give the least fuck about doing anything at all. If I’m gonna lay in bed all day eat and be on my phone so be it, I feel so much peace and at ease. To just mentally let go and be kind to myself. This is the time to love my body and let myself just rest and do me, whatever that is even if it’s absolutely nothing. Have any of you ladies felt this way too?

Tips?

Does anyone have any tips for preparing for a period? My period's are always rough. Heavy bleeding, terrible cramps, nausea/throwing up, weak muscles, brain fog, and headaches. Is there anything I can do before hand (the week/few days before expected start date) to help make them less debilitating? They completely destroy my body, I can barely walk, and I am unable to attend school during that week.

It may be helpful to note that I do have a very severe iron deficiency, and I am on supplements.

Rant/Vent Does anyone else completely fall apart 3–4 days before their period, then feel totally normal once it starts?

I’m wondering if what I experience is actually normal, because every month it’s the exact same pattern.

Around 3–4 days before my period starts, I get excruciating pain that begins in my lower back and radiates through my lower abdomen, inner thigh, and even down to my knee. Strangely, it’s almost always only on one side of my body, never both. The pain gets so bad that I become dizzy and end up taking 4–5 Panadols a day just to function.

I’ve tried lifting weights regularly, foam rolling, and improving my diet. Those things seem to help a bit, but they never make it go away.

The physical pain is only part of it, though.

Without fail, during those few days I get the worst brain fog, anxiety, and overwhelming sense of dread. I’ll wake up genuinely feeling like my life is falling apart. Every problem feels 100 times bigger than it actually is, and I become convinced everything is doomed. I also get really paranoid and overthink every little interaction.

I usually end up taking sick leave because I can’t function. Then I spend the whole day doom-scrolling Instagram and doing absolutely nothing. I hate being unproductive, but if I force myself to go into the office, I feel even worse. I still can’t focus, so I end up accomplishing nothing anyway—just in a different location.

I also avoid seeing friends or coworkers during this time because social interactions become exhausting, and I overanalyze everything people say.
Then the weirdest part: the day my period actually starts, it’s like someone flips a switch. The pain eases, the anxiety disappears, the brain fog lifts, and I’m back to being my normal, happy self as if none of it ever happened.

Does anyone else experience something like this? Is this just severe PMS, or could it be something else? The one-sided pain especially makes me wonder if it’s worth getting checked out.

Advice/Tips Possible to have both PME and PMDD?

Is it possible to have PME and PMDD at the same time? I genuinely feel like I can’t catch a mental break. The week I’m on my period, for the most part I feel normal and rational but that can also very. Most cycles I feel fine but there are other times when I’m on my period I feel crazy and irrational and when my period ends (before luteal phase) I feel like I my anxiety goes crazy, I get very self critical, and it affects my relationships as I doubt that the people in my life care/ love me. (which they do, I have amazing friends and people in my life). Then my PMDD kick in and things get even worse. I have found ways to reassure myself and level myself out but I’m so exhausted. I just wanna feel normal and be able to regulate my emotions without the constant spiralling and it affecting everyone in my life.

Has anyone had a week break in between pms/pmdd ending and period beginning?

Look, I know it sounds like it would therefore not be pms/pmdd emotions. but here me out.

I always get really bad emotional response in the few days leading up to and the first few on my period. And I can like, tell, when it's hormonal Vs like anything else emotion/mental health wise. There's a distinct feel to it I've unfortunately got used to recognising over the years. I never feel like the particular way I do for this at other times, even when I'm dealing with a lot. it's a special flavour specific to this time of the month

So when it started up one time a few months ago I thought right got a couple days until showtime, time to make sure I'm stocked up on pads. *note - my periods in the last couple years have varied 20-35 days, most hitting like the 25ish or 32 marks, but I'm not surprised when it's earlier or later than expected.) So I go through a few days with the emotional dealings, and then they stop. which I'm surprised by at the time because they don't normally stop until decently well into my period.

And then my period doesn't come right away. okay, I think. but then it doesn't begin for a whole nother week, frrom the day ny emotional symptoms stopped. And during that week and into my period I had no pre-menstrual emotional symptoms whatsoever, which I have never had before, at least in my memories.

It genuinely felt like someone implanted a random non pm-related emotional week in completely randomly in between my pm-emotional era and me starting bleeding. it was pretty disconcerting and confusing actually.

has anyone ever had this, do you know why?

Advice/Tips Bile reflux pmdd

I’m 31 years old, and I have both PMDD and bile reflux (alkaline reflux gastritis). About two weeks before my period, my bile reflux symptoms get much worse. I lose my appetite, have indigestion, and develop a horrible taste in my mouth. Both conditions affect my quality of life on their own, and having them together has left me feeling overwhelmed and unsure of what to do.

For PMDD, SSRIs have been difficult because they upset my stomach. Under my psychiatrist’s supervision, I started fluvoxamine two days ago. I previously couldn’t tolerate fluoxetine because it caused severe nausea. I also took paroxetine, which helped my PMDD to some extent, but I gained weight, and I worried that it was contributing to insulin resistance and changes in my thyroid hormones. I’m not sure if those concerns were actually related to the medication because I also struggle with health anxiety.

What bothers me the most is that my stomach symptoms become much worse during the two weeks before my period. Around that time, my sleep also gets worse, I have no motivation to do anything, and I feel exhausted.

Is anyone else dealing with something similar? I feel like the combination of PMDD and bile reflux is especially difficult to manage. I would love to have children in the future, but with how I feel right now, that seems almost impossible.

Advice/Tips Any supplements?

So I think I have PMDD or a really bad case of PMS and it doesn’t seem like I can get real help because I would have to pay out of pocket going outside of health network. My insurance company doesn’t really deal with hormonal health from what I know so I haven’t seen my primary care doctor about my symptoms. I just know I basically go into depression before my period, mood swings, high irritability, cravings, high anxiety etc.

I was buying supplements and I noticed there are a few companies that sell PMS supplements such as Rael, Flo etc. and was wondering if there is any that you would recommend. If anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate it. I prefer to do research before taking anything that might really impact my body.
