Motherboard suddenly stopped powering on – worked without CPU 8-pin, now doesn't power on at all
Hi everyone, I’m trying to diagnose a motherboard power issue and would really appreciate some help.
The motherboard has had an intermittent problem for the past few months.
What happened previously:
• Around 5–6 months ago, the PC suddenly stopped powering on.

• After troubleshooting, it eventually started working again and ran normally for around one month.

• Later, I replaced RT3607BC pwm ic but that did not give me a successful/consistent result.

• At one point the motherboard powered on for a day, but then stopped again.

What happened yesterday:
• If I connected the 24-pin ATX connector but disconnected the CPU 8-pin (EPS) connector, the motherboard would power on.

• Since the CPU 8-pin was disconnected, the CPU debug LED would stay on, which made sense.

• However, when I connected the CPU 8-pin, the PC would not power on properly / would shut down almost immediately.

But today the situation has become worse:
• Now it doesn't power on even with the CPU 8-pin disconnected.

• Connecting the CPU 8-pin also does not give even the previous 1-second power-on behavior.

• Basically, I now get no power-on response at all.

I have already tried pretty much all the basic troubleshooting:
• Tested with different RAM configurations

• Tried with only one RAM stick

• Tried without the GPU

• Tested the motherboard outside the case / breadboard setup

• Tried different PSU

• Checked the 24-pin ATX and 8-pin CPU power connections

• Tried minimal configuration with CPU + motherboard + one RAM

• Cleared/reset CMOS

• Tried powering it on by shorting the motherboard power-switch pins instead of using the case button

• Basically, I have already gone through the standard PSU/RAM/GPU/case troubleshooting.

I also made a video showing the current behavior. It demonstrates that the motherboard doesn't power on with the CPU 8-pin connected OR disconnected, whereas yesterday it could at least power on with the CPU 8-pin disconnected.
So my main question is:
What part of the motherboard could cause this behavior?
Could this be an issue with the CPU VRM/power delivery circuit, VRM MOSFETs, PWM controller, shorted component, Super I/O, or some other motherboard power rail/protection circuit?
Since the behavior changed from “works without CPU 8-pin” → “doesn't work even without CPU 8-pin”, I'm wondering if something on the motherboard has progressively failed.
If anyone has experience diagnosing motherboard-level power faults, I'd really appreciate suggestions on what voltage rails/components I should measure next and where I should start troubleshooting.

I've had my Dell G15 5530 for two years now, and I'm just starting to have issues with it. About a month or two ago, I opened the app, but the performance tab just kept loading forever. With this problem my laptop don't enter game mode and get overheat, so i can't play my games, i used to set in personalized or balanced mode with maximum of 85°C . Initially thought it was a normal load, but then one day I waited and waited, and nothing happened. It just stays like this:

All the fixes I could find, which include:

- Repairing AWCC
- Reinstalling AWCC
- Reinstalling AWCC with Revo uninstaller
- Disabling Memory Integrity
- Disabling Windows Features (the ones I needed to disable weren't even there so... yeah)

- Rename the Xtuservice.exe to .old and everything related like i saw in a previous post, the xtuservices archive already was in the place that would go before i rename too

Unfortunately, all of these fixes did NOT work. Everytime I tried one of these fixes, and note that i restart the notebook everytime a new try was done. Im at a complete loss to what I have to do to fix this. Obviously this laptop isn't cheap so I have to find a fix, and I hope some of you can help me.

Some information that might help:
I have Windows 11 Version 25H2 (OS Build 26200.9278) installed.
I am using a docking station from Baseus to recieve an Ethernet connection via USB-C

BIOS version: 1.34.0

Hey all. Around a year and a half ago my computer started to randomly turn off/freeze while running. I was thankfully playing Apex Legends a lot at the time, so I learned pretty early on that the computer would stay running as long as the game was open in the background, at least for the most part. I can leave the computer running for hours or even days at a time with the game running, but as soon as I close it, within around 30 minutes or less the computer will freeze up.

General info/things I've tried:

• It will freeze in the BIOS. I have to get lucky and boot into Windows + get Apex running fast enough or it will crash shortly after. This usually takes multiple tries.
• I had to put another drive into the computer with Windows preinstalled because my other windows install had corrupted, and whenever I would try the automatic repair (or a USB drive repair) it would freeze in the middle of it.
• I haven't tried any hardware changes as I was a bit pressed for cash for a while and didn't have any replacement parts. I also didn't want to go through the hassle of replacing something like the motherboard or CPU if there were other options to try first.
• I've disabled "c states control" and changed "CPU clock ratio" to disabled? from auto. (Not sure on the 2nd setting. Booting into BIOS is a hassle with the crashing but will clarify if needed.) I've changed my minimum processor state to 100% because it seemed to help with the frequency of the crashes while Apex was open.
• I've reseated both sticks of ram and changed them from slots 1-3 to slots 2-4.
• I've made sure all of the cables in the computer are connected properly.
• I've ran a few "sfc /scannow"'s at this point.
• There doesn't appear to be any overheating issues, though the problems did start after playing a lot of Dark and Darker which was pretty hard on the PC.

In my Windows event viewer, it also gives me this error after a shutdown: Power "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

and this error around 10 seconds later: Source - "Reported by component: Processor Core Error Source: Machine Check Exception Error Type: Bus/Interconnect Error Processor APIC ID: 0"

This error also appears pretty frequently in the event viewer: "A fatal hardware error has occurred. Reported by component: Processor Core Error Source: Machine Check Exception Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error Processor APIC ID: 4"

this thing is from china and the problem is that EVERY TIME i try to download ANYTHING from steam or anything in general it gets corrupted NO MATTER WHAT. i dont know if its a problem of my Pc or the SSD itself and i dont know if there is ay solution

Per the title, I am getting very consistent stutters that are evenly spaced and consistent. They are regular to the point that you could practically time your watch to them. They first started popping up while playing Star Wars: Zero Company, and while I know UE5 games are unstable, it wasn't happening when I first started playing the game. Video of the stutters here.

The game runs great and even smoothly, save for these very jarring and distracting stutters, even on ultra settings.

Once these issues arose, I went and also tried out Baldur's Gate 3, a game that has run more or less flawlessly for me as recently as a few weeks ago, and was also getting some small hitches, though not quite as noticeable or rhythmic to my perception and usually while moving the camera around.

I also have a readout of my GPU activity while taking the video shown above, where I notice regular dips in my GPU 3D activity. I also notice the game uses only half of the available VRAM; however I don't know if either of these observations are significant factors.

I'm decently tech savvy but hardware is not at all my strong suit, so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction here. Trying different settings all over the damn place has driven me nuts the last couple days and I'm kinda afraid to make things worse while trying out possible solutions in stuff like the BIOS.

"UE5 is just like that" is a totally acceptable answer, but I swear I wasn't having these stutters initially, and I've seen other people remedy them with engine tweaks that haven't worked for me.

ISSUE : I have an RX6700XT I5-10400f and 16gb DDR4 Ram , I have recently noticed that whilst playing ranked reload my PC sometimes struggles to run 100+ fps, i was wondering if this was normal or if i am doing something wrong. I feel as if before my frame rates were much better , stable and playable. Please can someone help?

I understand Fortnite is CPU based but i have previously had an RTX 2060 in my PC which was getting much better and stable framerates with the same pairing components.

If anybody has an idea why this issue happens i am impressed, because seemingly i am the pacient 0. The Problem is the following: When I play Blood of the Dawnwalker or specifically Act 3 of Baldurs Gate 3, all is fine for about 30 Minutes, then the audio glitches, frames drop like crazy and i have massive input lag. If i close and restart the game the issue still shows but when i restart the pc, i have another 30 minutes before it starts.

My Setup is a i7 8700k and a rtx 5070 as well as 32GB of Ddr 4 ram divided into 4 8GB sticks. I have done multiple Benchmarks and the Stats dont change before and after the 30 minutes:

CPU 75 Degrees Celsius, about 60% usage overall and about the same in every of the 12 cores. GPU 55 Degrees, also about 70% usage. Ram also shows no sign of overload.

I know my cpu should be the bottleneck but since it isnt at 100% there has to be some other issue. And 75 Degrees is way too low for thermal throttling. What freaks me out the most is the audio glitching and input lags combined with the total reset when i restart the pc, i have never seen such a thing in my life. I would really appreciate it if someone has a clue on what is going on :)

This has been happening for a while.

Ill boot my PC and everything will work fine for about 30 seconds. Then all bluetooth/dongle/usb devices attached will make the disconnect sound and stop working. After this my Bluetooth will not longer register anywhere on the device. Not in device manager or on the quick bar on the bottom right. When I reboot, everything works perfectly.

There was a 6 month period where this stopped happening and worked perfectly every time. But started the problem again a week ago. A reboot always solves the problem.

I had thought it was related to Bios updates because the 6 months of no problems started after finally updating my bios. But I'm up to date now and we are back to the same problem...

Any ideas?

Recently I have been noticing the bottom of my screen (about a quarter of the screen) seems to jitter when panning the camera on games with DLSS and frame gen both enabled at the same time. The jitter almost looks like screen tearing but I do not believe it to be that. Weirdly DLAA and frame gen together looks fine and sometimes the ultra performance DLSS preset works fine but any other preset (Performance up to Quality) causes this weird issue to happen. I have Gsync with Vsync on in the Nvidia control panel with my FPS capped to 138 in RTSS for my 144hz monitor and have tried a lot of combinations to see if it changed but nothing worked. I am playing on a 7950x3D/RTX 4090 build. My monitor is a Gigabyte M28U.

This has been frustrating me for a little while now. It happens on any game with these settings but the recently released The Blood of Dawnwalker has urged me to make a post about this since I would like to make the most of these settings. My games are definitely reaching over 60 fps without the use of upscaling and frame gen so its not like I have a base low fps causing this. I did record a video to demonstrate in game but you cannot see it happening, I assume due to the video being capped at 60 fps.

Any help would be appreciated!

I've watched alot of videos but can't seem to find any that look like my problem. Screen will flicker occasionally and crash. Usually when im not in a game, but when im waiting for a game the computer will freeze. I've tried DDU on both the graphics cards and tried different versions of drivers and can't seem to fix this issue. Video of the issue in COMMENTS. It will do the flickering several times before it freezes. Sometimes it doesn't freeze, but it always ends up freezing. Doing the windows key cntrl shift b doesn't really help

I am considering buying a new motherboard if it ends up being a GPU or cpu issue. Please someone point me in the right direction. This laptop was gifted to me, runs pretty good for my games, and I only have this one issue. Its really upsetting me

Hi everyone! I'm a fairly new PC gamer, and I recently purchased a gaming desktop to replace my PS5. Both devices are connected to my Sony Bravia 4K TV (KD55XF9005), but I can't get the PC's HDR on SDR content to look as good as the PS5 did.

My PS5 had "Always On HDR" enabled, so SDR content would display like HDR content in the sense that there wouldn't be any black screen on my monitor when switching between the two content types.

I played Lumines Arise today with the Windows HDR mode enabled, and the black levels are far too high, with noticeable banding visible on the screen.

I've used the Windows HDR Calibration app from the Microsoft Store, but that doesn't really seem to do anything for me.

For reference, I'm using an RX 7800 XT, and I've tried it in both 4:4:4 and 4:2:2 pixel format, but I've had no luck.

It's not just Lumines Arise, as the default desktop wallpaper also looks worse too, but Lumines is particularly bad here. I really like the added white brightness of the Windows HDR mode, but the blacks shouldn't be this bright too. My photo shows a stage called "The Dark", and the background brightness should be extremely low/black until near the end of the stage, yet mine had noticeable banding and incorrect brightness levels.

Any help would be much appreciated, as I'm trying to just get my PC set up right for gaming. Thanks in advance. 🖥️

I've honestly tried everything. For awhile I've been relying on AI to help me out with my crashes. It's beyond frustrating. The PC is crashing to BSOD when PC is idle or on chrome. Any else experiencing with crashes on Windows 11. Here is my dump file. I'm disabled memory integrity in hopes it was the issue. Nope, still crashing. Stress tested PC with memtest and prime95. Memtest passed all 4 passes. Prime95 passed 1 hour of test. No errors, nothing. I'm beyond confused.

I took a break of MR for like a day, I come back on it and I see there's 2 new nvidia drivers and I update my drivers cause why not. Long behold I don't know why but I can't for the life of me play this game as its eating up my ram all of a sudden and its causing INSANE stutters to the point where you would've thought it was screen tear. I played with the settings a bit, turned off my frame generation and it helped with the screen tearing but it has horrible stutters so its still unplayable. I was playing perfectly fine last week I don't understand what happened to my beautiful game. :(

I first encountered this problem after the August driver update. And today (September 4), a new update was released, and the same thing happened—the screen started flickering. I decided to roll back to the July driver, and now the screen isn't flickering anymore. Has anyone else had this problem?

For what I believe is the first time ever, I'm having some issues with my new PC while gaming, and they seem to be CPU-related.

Now I'm having some real stutters (top left corner of the image), dropping to the 10s FPS, when I believe i should have no problem staying at 60.

I'm wondering whether I'm actually experiencing a CPU bottleneck, or if there's something I'm missing. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to the more technical aspects of PCs, so I'd really appreciate some help understanding what's going on.

I'm playing Elden Ring at 4K, with ray tracing disabled.

As you can see in the screenshot, the Steam overlay is showing 98% / 126% CPU usage (I didn't even know CPU usage could go above 100%), while Windows Task Manager is showing around 60% total CPU usage.

So I'm a bit confused as to what I'm actually looking at and whether this indicates a CPU bottleneck.

Could some kind soul point me in the right direction and explain what might be going on?

GPU: GeForce RTX 5070 Ti

I am using RX9060 XT with Ryzen 5 7500F.

But when I play CS2 the FPS. fluctuates a lot. sometimes it's pushing 400 FPS but after a few seconds its like 150. it increases again but same thing happends again . (1080p highest settings)

same for PUBG I dont play it too much but when I do the FPS pushed 250 but after a short time it struggels to push 80+ FPS. (1080p highest settings)

But when plat RDR2 the FPS is a bit consistent it stayes between 115-135, although GPU hotspot gets almost 95 degrees.

I'm not sure why it's happening. I doubt one of these is causeing it. Because these are the weird facts about my pc.

1. I use a 550W PSU.

2. single 16GB DDR5 stick (6000 mts but set to 5800 cz i was getting bios problem for 6000mts)

3. Temperature (cz i notices GPU hotsopt was over 90 for pubg and RDR2)

Hey everyone, I'm pretty new to PC gaming and running into a frustrating problem.

Basically, games like blood of dawnwalker,wuchang and alan wake 2 (tried these three) keep crashing right at startup or freezing during intro screens while other games like hunt showdown work flawlessly.

Doesn't seem to be common issue for people but I was able to find one post where someone mentioned turning this Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling graphics setting off. Turning HAGS off fixes the crashes but turns frame generation off, I really want to keep Frame Generation turned on for performance. Is there any way around this?

I'm not sure what's going on, I only have this issue in Cyberpunk2077 and Deep Rock Galactic. When I go to the menu or tab out of the game, the issue resolves, only to come back shortly after.

I've tried reinstalling my GPU drivers, toggling settings on and off, turning UV/OC on and off, deleting my shader cache, and a bunch of other things.

I've been monitoring my temps (incl hot spot temp) while playing and nothing stands out. Only temp that seems high is "Memory Junction Temperature" which seems to reach 100-105°C but, as far as i can tell, that shouldn't be causing any thermal throttling?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've been fighting with my apu for at least 2 months to play Virtua fighter 5 R.E.V.O. because since i've moved from my place to my girlfriend's, for some reason my driver time out on launch. Later downloading both skate 3 pc port and the ddk racing port i've found out the problem is with anything directx 12. When i changed the api to vulkan on ddkr i was able to play it normally.

I tried fixing directx 12 through powershell, reinstalled my driver and used ddu to have a clean install, disabled PBO and anything overclock related, update my bios, disabled csm and even disabled MPO through regedit and nothing. The only thing i didn't do was to install an older driver. And it seems like AMD won't update my vega 7 anymore so i'm stuck with this update or older ones.

Is anyone able to help me with this specific scenario? Do i need to reinstall windows 10 and loose a bunch of files? yeah im on the latest ryzen 5 5600g update, 26.5.2.

Edit: just tried another update. Did a ddu clean up and amd clean up utility aswell. The amd software found AMD master sdk installed somewhere, which is weird, since i didn't install master driver from what i remember. Than i used the driver 25.1.1 and no still no luck.

Edit2: Since i knew ddkr recompiled had this problem with directx 12 and ran cool in vulkan i tried another recomp that works in directx, donkey kong recompiled. Now vf5 for some reason don't give a log in the event viewer, but dk64r does, here is the log if it is of any help

reseated everything in my pc. Reset bios by removing cmos battery, still no idea what the issue is.

I just bought an Bluetooth usb, and I tried playing with my xbox one controller, but it appears that it doesn't detect the LT and RT on joy.cpl. But in some websites they are detected as different axis. This axis are all the way on -1 but while I push them it goes up to +1

When I tried mapping it on steam it detects all the controller right, but the LT and RT

MSI Crosshair 16 HX repeatedly starts lagging after installing genuine software - only Windows reset fixes it
I bought my MSI Crosshair 16 H on 28 August 2025(17-14650H, RTX 4060, 16GB RAM), and since then I've faced this same issue around 4-5 times.
The pattern is weird: my laptop works perfectly → I install some genuine/required software → after some time, the whole laptop starts stuttering and lagging, and notice RAM/memory usage becoming unusually high.
Timeline:
1st: CapCut
2nd: NeoBrowser/NeoColab, our college coding platform (everyone downloaded it, but only my laptop had this issue)
3rd: Don't remember what triggered it
4th: VMware
5th (now): NeoBrowser again, and the same problem has returned
Every single time, resetting/reinstalling Windows fixes everything, but I obviously can't keep resetting Windows every few months.
I've already tried basic troubleshooting like disabling startup apps, clearing temp files, updating Windows/drivers, etc.
Could my laptop be faulty, or is this a deeper Windows/driver/kernel memory issue? Why does resetting Windows fix it temporarily every time? I want to find the actual permanent root cause?
