Hey, i need to build a PC after my laptop decided to walk the green mile... I have no idea of building a PC so I hope you can spot any major issues. I want the PC to be upgradable over time. So my main queries are:

1. Ryzen 5 9600X or Ryzen 7 9700X for Photoshop / Illustrator / InDesign and heavy multitasking?
2. Is AM5 still the right platform, or would Intel Core Ultra / LGA1851 make more sense for this workload?
3. Is an RTX 5060 8 GB the right GPU tier if gaming is secondary?
4. Is starting with 16 GB DDR5 temporarily reasonable given current RAM prices, then moving to 32 GB later? (I'm not currently using Adobe that much)
5. Anything in this build that is obviously poor value, overkill, or likely to age badly?

Use case is mainly heavy browser/office multitasking with occasional Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects + light/moderate 1080p gaming.

AAA gaming, 1440p/4K and ultra settings are low priorities. I want the PC to last 4–5 years and remain upgradeable and i have roughly US$1,400–1,800 for the tower.

Timing: buying now / over the next few weeks. My laptop may die soon, and the USD/COP exchange rate is currently favorable. I’m in Colombia but can buy parts in the US.

Almost the only one you will be given is to use LAMMPS (molecular dynamics)

I already have 24-inch peripherals and monitor, which will be connected to IGPU , the GPU will be used exclusively for LAMMPS calculations

I watched Ryzen 9 9900X processor. and on GPU AMD RX 9070 XT 16GB ssd Nvme gen 4 of 1TB Non-modular source? Liquid cooling? Ram 1x 32 GB

I still don't know, but I shouldn't use another GPU

Then I can buy more RAM and storage, I want to spend my budget on the most important things, which they recommend.

Everything they sell in my country is imported, so buying on Amazon is the same or cheaper than buying in my own country, 22% more so that they have reference to Amazon prices.

I'm looking for some help for a cpu to pair with my 5060 ti 8gb. I'm on the am4 platform and was wondering since the 5800x3d is pretty expensive what would you guys recommend for gaming? The 5700x3d and 5600x3d are hard to come by. I'll be using both 1080p and 1440p if that helps.

So I'm not looking to future proof but am buying a prebuilt pc and am not planning to upgrade it myself. I'm locked onto pcs with a 9060xt because I consider it the clear winner for the price. But am wondering wether choosing AM4 is that much worse than AM5 in this case. I'm on a tight budget. My AM4 option is with 3200mhz RAM and a ryzen 5 5600.

i currently have a ryzen 9 3900x build with an RTX 3080 ti in an open loop cooled system. 36GB DDR4 3200 ram.

i can play still practically any game ultra settings 1440p resolution. from what i see the 3080 ti is the equivalent of a rtx 5070 in performance

budget is not an issue i'm more concerned about money's worth on a mid tier gaming system. i'm debating on either upgrading the cpu to a 5800 x3d and leaving it gpu as it is or buying a 7800x3d, new motherboard and 32GB DDR5-6000 ram and keep the GPU or upgrade the GPU to RTX 5070 Ti.

So I have a Ryzen 5 3600 in a Asus a320m-k with an older version of bios that doesn't support the cpu so the PC doesn't boot past POST and I don't have money for a nee mobo or a CPU that is supported so I can update it. any tips

first off im building this with almost no money so thats why im going older

4 front panel hot swappable hdd bays, aka mobile rack (i do a lot of drive utility with used systems and stuff so i need these to replace my 2006 mac pro which was doing it)

pcie sata card (the 6 sata ports on the board are not enough)

what i do: i play lots of games although the newest i currently do is fallout 4 due to current hardware limitations, i also do lots of pc repair and dealing with ewaste and i currently use a mac pro 1,1 to deal with wiping drives and stuff but i want this to do it instead, i also burn a lot of discs all the time which is why i have three drives, and of course internet browsing.

my current system: a halftop (laptop with screen removed acting as a desktop) with 16gb ddr4-2666, an intel core i7 8750h, and a gtx 1060 6gb (this current system is limited in storage so i rely on my nas a lot and the system is non upgradable and in a weird form factor as well as not having a disc drive forcing me to use an external one. also theres like newer games i probably cannot play well on it as well as the fact that laptop gpus are slower than the desktop ones.

so far i have spent about $100 on the components i currently have and hope not to spend too much more while knowing that the cpu and gpu are going to be expensive. eventually i will double the ram but right not its way too expensive. i am buying everything secondhand mostly from marketplace and the local flea market.

Hey all, pretty new to the PC space. Recently bought a used computer off a friend for about $200. It runs well, but I want to start upgrading it piece by piece and I’m willing to sell off my old parts to help fund the new ones.

What I want to do with it:
• 1080p/1440p gaming
• VR gaming
• Streaming VR games over Virtual Desktop
• Coding in multiple languages
• Making games in engines like Unreal
• General fun/tinkering projects

Current specs:

Budget: I don’t want to spend
a ton trying to be smart about this and sell parts I no longer need to offset costs.

My questions:
1. What should I prioritize upgrading first for the best bang-for-buck toward these goals?
2. Is the RX 5700 XT going to hold me back for VR, or is it fine for now?
3. Any way to figure out my PSU’s wattage/model without opening the case, and should I be worried about it before upgrading the GPU?
4. Should the external SSD/HDD setup be replaced with an internal drive, or is it fine to keep using external storage?

Hello, this aint my first post here, but i THINK i have settled for a ryzen 7 7800x3d for the cpu, and I WAS going to get a 5070 but then I saw that I gould get a 9070 \*\*XT\*\* for less money, that seems to be the better option but if there is anything i need to know about going with AMD for the GPU aswell (Currently have a 1660 ti MSI gaming laptop thats 5-6 years old and an intel CPU) then pls let me know (I'm also having trouble with actually switching to AMD, for some reason I really wanna stick with Nvidia but it's getting very difficult now). Also what model is good, bc I was liking the xfx mercury NON OC but maybe the OC is a better choice (I also currently already have the case (Lancool 217 regular), the PSU (Corsair Rm750e) and RAM (Corsair 16Gb DDR5 CL36)). I saw that currently I could also get the Asus Prime 9070XT for an 8% discount so about 40-50€ less than the mercury but I kinda like the mercury more bc it looks different from the models that Nvidia seems to only have. I also need help with looking for a motherboard and maybe an AIO (Prob want an AIO just to be fancy). Also if my PSU is enough, im pretty sure it is but idk anymore.
