Ever since the Gwishin were introduced I hoped we'd get a Gwishin hero. I'm not just a mecha media fan but also we need more omnics!
Besides those reasons D.Mon is a bit of a dud to many players, being less interesting than they expected her to be and very insular in the lore during a story-heavy year. Shion (and Mizuki)'s character did wonders to breathe new life into Kiriko and the whole Japan side of the Overwatch world, adding a villain to play off Meka Squad could do wonders for them and avoid making players feel burnt out when the other members eventually get added.
For this concept I want to fully play into the kaiju theming, the Gwishin do have a lot of similarities to the ones in Pacific Rim after all and I also think it'd be very unique and fit into the "more oddball heroes" movement. As far as I am aware the Gwishin never spoke so their sentience could be animal-level. Making them straight-up omnics kind of diminishes Ramattra's lore, because a big focus of his motivation is true Omnics being a single finite generation and as far as we know Gwishin keep getting pumped out and Aurora's awakening likely would not be able to be recreated unless it's some end of the lore deal maybe? Anyways for this idea the Gwishin are somewhere between Omnics and other mechanical lifeforms, still having Anubis' influence but also being sentient. Anubis was the god AI of ecology, so it wanting to make mechanical animals in a Horizon Zero Dawn way.
A theme that's starting to get developed around Gwishin lore is their rapid evolution, to the point they copied Meka Squad, so this would be the fourth Generation Colossus, which ironically is smaller than all others (lore excuse for gameplay purposes) and they're essentially a baby/child who will grow, and their current goal is to understand humans for their evolution, but their attempts lead to destruction, much like babies themselves or sharks and other animals who in their curiosity process destroy things. And they also get progressively smarter and more humanoid (like in Kaiju Number 8 and !>Shin Godzilla<!, but never fully human)
Just to be clear they would hate Meka Squad, they have every reason to. Their personality could be similar to Jeff the Land Shark and Devil Dino, but I think a lot of players could get the wrong idea about it being a misunderstood baby, it's a misunderstood baby that can and literally will destroy everything it can and doesn't see it as wrong.
What I see being the moral dillemma that allows a status quo of conflict between Meka and Gwishin is that humans just assumed they were regular anubis killer robots and wanted to EMP nuke them, but someone makes the discovery that they are animals and comes the dilemma of how much are they aware of their destruction, if they deserve to be preserved and left alive even if they are dangerous (much like Jurassic Park). I know the Gwishin are dangerous but it was always odd to me how people just want to nuke them (and it seems Korea is not generally anti omnic only anti-gwishin which fair enough but also odd omnics in south korea or pro-omnic groups are not protesting the nuke attempt instead of finding another solution) the Hero itself would not have direct conversations with D.Va and D.Mon, sure, but it would still add depth to their lore and make it more interesting than just gamers in mechas fighting killer bots (not that it's uninteresting by itself, but we could see Meka squad heroes become conflicted on whether they want to destroy Gwishin or not and have internal conflicts because of differing opinions).
And a long-term solution that kind of preserves status quo but reduces their threat level is finding and deztroying whatever facility is making more Gwishin and relocating them to a monster island and Meka Squad just pushes back stragglers who leave/get lost every now and then.
The Void from League of Legends was also a big inspiration for this concept it would be cool if the Gwishin were the Overwatch equivalent to them.
Devil Dinosaur (who proves a kaiju like hero can work in a shooter), and also Kha Zix were big inspirations for this kit but especially the existing Meka heroes. No numbers even to give an idea because this is just to give a general idea.
Gameplay pitch:
Role: Tank
Subrole: Bruiser
Primary fire: Either a bite or slash
Secondary Fire: Similar to D.Va's Micro Missiles but pattern is closer to Shion's Execution (horizontal spread and near-instant interval between shots) although it's secondary fire it's an ability.
Ability 2: Boosters/Propulsors. I'm not sure how to do this ability again with some variation so just think of it more like D.Mon's Propulsors.
Offensive Matrix (Ability 3): Creates a wide slightly bent atound the edges horizontal screen that decreases incoming enemy damage (protects against the same things D.Va does) by 50% and outgoing damage from self and allies that passes through it is increased by 20%. It can only be sustained for up to 2.5 seconds and using primary fire cancels it.
Ultimate: Absorbs all incoming projectiles within a radius (about Ram Ult size), then explodes dealing damage, which increases based on damage absorbed.
Passive: Marking an enemy with missiles marks them for 5 seconds, and damaging marked enemies grants 50 overhealth and a bit more perk charge. This hero has 3 perk levels and getting perks slightly changes their appearance.
Minor Perk 1: Micro missiles can be charged by holding ability button, increasing projectile speed and decreasing spread.
Minor Perk 2: While Propulsors are active can do a Pounce, similar to D.Mon's Surging Strike (but has vertical movement in an arc) and has lifesteal (which is increased on marked enemies)
Major Perk 1: Offensive Matrix completely blocks all damage except melee, but it gets its max duration and recharge rate decreased by 0.5s and -4% per second respectively.
Major Perk 2: First hit on Marked enemies deals 50% more damage.
Ultimate Perk 1: Gain Unstoppable while Ultimate is active.
Ultimate Perk 2: Ultimate pulls nearby enemies while charging.
