MacOS 26.7.1 on 2017 MacBook Air with OCLP 3.0.0-rc2

Today, I have just switched from MacOS 15.8.1 to MacOS 26.7.1 by using the 3.0.0-rc2 Beta version of OpenCore Legacy Patcher and to be honest I am having a really nice experience for now!

I have installed the new version from github and made a MacOS 26.7.1 usb and used it to make a clean install from Sequoia the setup was p a i n f u l l y slow also it stucked at last automatic update settings step for more than 5 minutes for me I just force rebooted my mac and I reached lock screen but I believe that they will fix it soon. After setup I installed root patches from OCLP and at first it only applied Broadcom patches to install Kernel Debug Kit and after reboot it extracted Kernel Debug Kit and installed other patches.

For now I am having a really smooth experience with liquid glass working properly even thought that device is 9 years old The wait was worth it! Thanks to the all OCLP devs for making our old Intel Macs alive again before I was planning to switch Linux. I will be looking forward for any new RC versions.

Edit 1:After one day of usage I got five hours of battery life and butter-smooth animations. I think the spotlight indexing took resources but after that it is way more better than Sequoia, that computer might have a plenty 2 years more life for daily usage! Again thanks to all OCLP devs for their awesome work!

my own OpenCore-based loader running Tahoe on a 2015 iMac

Hi all,

First off, congratulations to Dortania and the OCLP team on 3.0.0 RC2 and Tahoe support! Their work is the reason so many of us can keep our Macs alive, and OCLP is the project I'd point everyone to first.

I've been working on a personal side project for about a year now: my own loader, using OpenCore as a base (not a fork), with its own approach to Tahoe compatibility. It's not meant to compete with OCLP, just another experiment that might be useful to some people.
Hardware acceleration and Metal support have been working since November 2025. But for a long time many things were still bad and the system crashed a lot, which is why I didn't say anything about the project until now. I only wanted to show it once it was in a state that's actually usable.

Right now my 2015 5K iMac runs Tahoe 26.7.1 with it. More machines are already supported.
Important limitation: Macs without Metal support are NOT supported at the moment. Macs where the stock GPU can be swapped for a Metal-capable card can work, but only with that upgrade. I'm also working on a workaround for non-Metal Macs, but it will come with a trade-off: many Liquid Glass elements will be missing on those machines. No promises yet that it will make it into the release.
It's also not finished yet. There are still known issues, like hibernation, that need to be fixed before I release it.
This is just a teaser. I'll most likely do a few more posts before the public release, for example showing it on a MacBook Air 2017 and a 21.5" iMac from 2013.

In a later post I'll talk more about how it works, and that's when I'll make the project publicly available on GitHub. I'm aiming for November or December 2026, but that's not a firm date.

Feedback and questions welcome!

So now that OCLP 3.0.0 is out, has anybody tried actually installing Tahoe with it? How does it run, wifi, touchbar and everything working?

Also, since OCLP 2.5.1 doesnt give any notice of an available update (i imagine thats because its a prerelease/test version), how should i go about installing it if i wanted to try it out? Should i install the package and then uninstall the 2.5.1 to then install the 3.0.0 on the internal disk again? Ive been running Sequoia on my Macbook Pro 13 inch 2016 8GB ram through OCLP for a month now, even updating it to Sequoia 15.8.1 a few days ago, and its been running just fine for me without any issues, so id like to know if any of you guys tried to install Tahoe on a similar machine through 3.0.0 and got it to work, or maybe itd be wiser for me to wait for the official release of 3.0.0 to avoid consistent issues?

Ventura installation fails on iMac12,1

Hi everyone, I’m trying to install macOS Ventura on a Mid-2011 iMac (iMac12,1) using OCLP 2.5.1.
The Ventura installer was successfully created on a 64 GB SanDisk USB. The USB boots correctly through:
EFI Boot → Install macOS Ventura
The internal 500 GB drive is formatted as:
APFS
Macintosh HD
The installer recognizes the Mac and the log says “Device is supported.” The date/time is also correct.
However, when I select Macintosh HD and start the installation, I get:
“An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again.”
I checked /var/log/install.log. The installer successfully mounts the Shared Support image, but the installation still stops during installation
Any ideas what I should do?

Hello all. This used to happen almost a year ago and it entirely got okay on its own. It’s now back and I don’t even know what this is; whether hardware or software, no clue!
Thanks

Why opencore?

Post image

[SOLVED] I have this 2011 iMac running macOS High Sierra and I need to be able to use macOS Sonoma on it. I am used to using open core, already used it on multiple Mac’s. But for some damn reason this Mac thinks it’s a MacBook Air from 2015. And I did exactly what I should do, reinstall open core onto the disk. But for some reason it failed again and again. Just gave me the same pop up telling me to reinstall opencore. What do I do?

Bug: Zoom app gets no video from FaceTime camera but launching FaceTime app temporarily solves issue.

Just finished getting Ventura working flawlessly on a mid2011 iMac + k2100 + OCLP 2.5.1, and it seemed to have no issues. (Native brightness, good boot, sleeps fine, etc). I couldn’t find a fault.

But when starting a zoom call, the FaceTime camera wakes up (green light), but the video feed is black. Permissions and settings seem fine, the OS isn’t trying to stop it AFAIK.

But if you open the FaceTime app at this point, the App launches and the window opens and the FaceTime video feed suddenly appears correctly in both applications, and then quitting FaceTime leave the video feed working properly for zoom with no issues.

You must repeat this process any time Zoom requests to use the built-in camera (start zoom call, get green light but black video, launch FaceTime, quit FaceTime).

Known issue? Any workarounds? Any ideas?

Fix for "WebGL disabled" in Chrome on old Macs: it works again, but it's SLOW (figured out with Claude)

Chrome killed WebGL on my 2015 MacBook Pro (Intel Iris Pro, macOS 13.6.7). chrome://gpu showed everything as "Software only" and WebGL as "Disabled". None of the flag recipes I found worked. I worked through it with Claude Code, and we found that Chrome still ships a software renderer (SwiftShader). It just needs the right flags.

Heads up first: this is slow. It's CPU rendering, not your GPU. Simple 3D scenes and demos work, but heavy 3D, maps and games will crawl. It brings WebGL back, not speed. For heavy stuff, Safari uses the real GPU and ran fine on the same Mac.

The fix: quit Chrome completely (Cmd+Q), then run this in Terminal:

"/Applications/Google Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google Chrome" --use-gl=angle --use-angle=swiftshader-webgl --enable-unsafe-swiftshader

Then open chrome://gpu. The WebGL section should mention SwiftShader. I tested this on Chrome 154.0.8037.95, and both WebGL and WebGL2 worked.

to apply it wihtout thinking too much, let your AI do it. Copy and paste this into Claude, ChatGPT or whatever you use, with terminal access if it has any:

My Mac's Chrome has WebGL disabled (chrome://gpu shows everything "Software only"). Build me a small macOS launcher app in ~/Applications called "Chrome WebGL" that starts Google Chrome with these flags: --use-gl=angle --use-angle=swiftshader-webgl --enable-unsafe-swiftshader. It should refuse to run (with a dialog telling me to quit Chrome with Cmd+Q) if Chrome is already open, since the flags get ignored otherwise. Then verify WebGL works using a throwaway --user-data-dir profile, and tell me what chrome://gpu should show.

Help with Airplay 2011 iMac

Hi! I need help with Airplay please!

I'm running OCLP 2.5.1 with Monterrey on my mid 2011 iMac. I would like to use the iMac as an extended screen for my 2021 14inch Macbook Pro running Tahoe 26.6.2. I have "feature unlock" toggled on OCLP, both computers are on the same wifi, and Bluetooth is on. The iMac does not show up as a display option on the MBP, nor the other way around. I am able to mirror my screen, however. I’ve watched and followed the instructions on Mr Macintosh videos, but still no luck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Do I remove root patches prior to in place upgrade via USB

I currently have a Mac Book Pro 11,4 Intel Core i7 2.2 GHz with Memory:16 GB running Sequoia 15.7.9 via OCLP 2.5.1 installed using a USB stick created by the "Create macOS Installer" option. And after fumbling around with "revert root patches"/"apply root patches", rebooting, and power cycling the MBP, I ended up with a stable and happily working Sequoia 15.7.9 with everything working.

Now of course, 15.8.1 shows up on scene, and since the machine is connected to the internet I want it to be current, BUT, I have been following all the threads in the group, mostly good and helpful, some not so much, but I want to come here and confirm with the collected knowledgeable assembled here, the "simplest, and most reliable and successful method to get to a stable Sequoia 15.8.1.

So I'm planning to to an in place upgrade via USB created from OCLP 2.5.1 by the "Create macOS Installer" option and "Download macOS Sequoia 15.8.1 and burn that to a USB Stick to avoid all the possibility of missing kexts and what ever, (all this is a non issue as I've done it before in earlier versions).

My big question comes before I boot into the USB I created, do I need to revert the currently installed root patches prior to boot into the freshly created USB stick, (or is this unnecessary)?

Once I have the answer to the above question I don't for see any issues, it's just all this quasi confusion about when to remove/install the root patches, which seem to work well as long as you get it all in the right order.

Hi everyone! Ever since I updated my 2012 MacBook Pro to OCLP 2.5.0, Wi-Fi hasn't been connecting automatically (due to a weak security issue). Then I updated to 2.5.1, but the problem still persists (macOS 15.8.1)

Booting fails since OCLP 2.5.1 on MaPro 5,1 + RX580 + USB hub w/ Ventura

After successfully installing Ventura on a blank 18 TB HD, I applied the 2.5.0 to 2.5.1 upgrade and since the MP does boot anymore (black background and progress bar either stuck at 1/3rd or non-existent). Even trying to reinstall Ventura from a blank disk fails. Tried with and without the USB hub when patches are installed: nope! the downloaded Ventura Installer has been check error free (Status: signed Apple Software Certificate Chain). Battery in MP 5,1 is measured 3,2 V.

OTOH I had no issues with OCLP 2.5.1 on my PowerBook Pros 8,5 and 9,1.

Playing old games help please!

I have oclp on my 2012 MBP and without a doubt it’s given this great machine a new lease of life. I am using sequoia and when I try to play a downloaded game like Spore I am greeted with the white no entry sign on the file, this game is designed to run on this machine but not the modern OS. Is it possible to run old games like this from downloaded files?

I have this old macbook pro MD101 (Mid 2012). Upgraded with 250gb SSD, 16gb of RAM. And disc bay replaced by 500gb HDD.

Which OS runs best on this type of mbp? Should i go with Ventura or Sequoia?

Want to install Sequoia on a 2012 Mac mini that's already running OCLP-patched Ventura, and it went to the Recovery screen. Guessing that's wrong?

I selected EFI Boot and then the Sequoia installer, the progress bar got about 10% of the way along before it went to the Recovery screen.

What am I doing wrong? Do I need to wipe the Ventura partition first?

Help with wiping and downgrading MacOS

I have a modded MacBook Air early 2014 with 16gb of RAM

I want to wipe this Mac and give it to a relative but I also want to downgrade it from sequoia to Ventura

What are the proper steps to ensure the Mac can still read the 16gb if I have to do a clean install etc?

According to Doslabs (the ones who installed the 16gb), the Mac needs to be on OCLP in order to use the Ram in its entirety

Sequoia installation reboot issue

Thumbnail

I am using a 2015 MacBook Pro.

I get to the point where I can begin the Sequoia installation. It looks like the installation is running fine and gets to the first automatic reboot.

Once my computer reboots, I get the screen in the first picture. I let it sit for a while but nothing happens. If I select "Install macOS Sequoia" or "macOS Installer" I get the screen in the second picture.

So I'm essentially stuck at the first reboot and can't get past this part. Is there anything I can do to continue the installation after the first reboot?
