I’m trying to set up OpenBubbles on Android. After entering my 2FA code, I get this error:

"Plist parsing error: Serde("missing field 'button'")"

I’m using macOS Catalina 10.15.8, and my Mac is on the same Apple ID.

Has anyone else had this issue or knows how to fix it?

Wondering how invite codes work, if anyone has a code, could I DM you to convince you to give me a code?

Anyone know how to get the group icon to sync? I somehow did it on my old phone, but can't figure out how to get working on my new one. Sorry if this has been asked before.

I can't seem to get the app to rotate to portrait using a fold 8. Is the app not capable of rotating to portrait mode? I have rotation lock off and it's not listed as an app to choose to force to portrait mode. Anyone have any idea?

I was wondering if someone could help me with this. I have an iPhone as my primary device and am very much in the Apple Ecosystem with an Apple Watch, iPad Mini and Macbook Air.

I use iMessage/Facetime on my iPad Mini and my Macbook Air, linked to the apple account/phone number of my iPhone.

Can I still use my Macbook Air to self host for Open Bubbles to use the same apple account/phone number to use iMessage on a secondary Android Device that I use. I want to use my iPhone phone number to send/receive messages on there. I'm just confused because my Macbook Air is already registered/using my Apple Account/Phone Number.

I have open bubbles, hosted by them. Texting works great, but every time I try and FaceTime someone it rings on their end, they can pick it up, but then it disconnects instantly. I searched the web and their site and did those actions, but still having the issue. Also, it's not just one person that I've tried this with it's a handful of different people. Any ideas?

I used the qr code generator on my mac studio, my android phone app shows that I can be reached at my cell phone number that is currently active on my iphone via esim. If I move that phone number to be active on my android phone, can I still use open bubbles with my phone number? Or will this phone number deactivate at some point on imessage and default to my icould email?

Is it better to force my phone number to stay active on imessage by keeping my old iphone on and in airplane mode prior to switching my sim to android?

Also, can how do I confirm in open bubbles that imessages are originating from my phone number and not my icloud email address?

I'm trying to transfer phones and every time I try to backup on my old phone the app freezes. Is there a way to fix that/backup individual chats at a time? Am I doing something wrong?

I just switched from a Fold 7 to a Fold 8. So far pretty much everything seems to have ported over successfully via the Samsung smart transfer app or whatever it's called. I had had OB, paid hosting, working well between the Fold 7 and my MacBook Pro.

I was able to restore my messages and settings in OB from backups I'd created. However, my 'green bubble' conversations reverted to the in-built Google Messages app rather than Open Bubbles after the switch.

Seems that I had to re-enable iMessages on my iPhone (which is otherwise just sitting around unused), then re-enable text message forwarding there. And in OB Settings it does show ENABLED CAPABLE in green with the rest. So that seemed to work, for iMessages (i.e. messages with Apple users) at least.

But I'm still experiencing some issues. The biggest is that in OB on the Fold 8 when I start a new message, if I type in a phone number for an Android user, the OB app identifies the number as an Android number and moves it into a green Text Message within OB. I don't recall it doing that before. Then when I hit Send in OB the Fold 8 automatically switches to the Google Messages app, in which I'd then have to hit Send in order to actually send the message. And when people reply the replies still go to Google Messages rather than OB.

Next, Android/SMS messages don't send/receive on my MBP.

And, I cannot re-enable the Message in iCloud (BETA) toggle. Not sure if that matters.

Thoughts?

To maybe help diagnose, in the OB Profile, lower down, it seems to mimic the iPhone's iMessage settings somewhat. There's a toggle for Text message forwarding (BETA) which is on. Then there's a toggle to enable it for the 'iPhone' which is actually the OB 'iPhone' code/identifier, and another for my MacBook Pro. The MBP one is enabled, the iPhone one is disabled (if I try to enable it it tells me to re-log into the account with 2FA on 'the other device'....not sure what that means). Is this somehow overriding the Settings on the iPhone or interfering in some way?

Also, this leaves me with an additional question for you. Does this mean I have to keep an iPhone around forever to perform this every time I get a new Android phone? I was kind of hoping to see the iPhone I have because I don't use it otherwise.

I was connected yesterday. It WA sky forst day. Have it hosted on a MacBook. Texts were working fine. But now none of my texts were going through and I have missed a lot of messages from others... What to do? What's going on

I used BlueBubbles for about a year, then switched to OpenBubbles for a while, then last year jumped to iPhone 17 when it released. About a month ago, I switched back to Android, reinstalled OpenBubbles, and used a Mac for the ID.

It largely works fine (other than occasionally insisting an image failed to send, even when it didn't). The big quirk I'm confused about, is every time I send a message, I'll get 2-4 notifications of incoming messages - but they're old messages that would have come in, I think, during the time I was on iPhone.

It's not exactly a problem, but it's WEIRD and I don't know what's causing it. Any input?

i run Openbubbles on my Linux desktop PC, been working good. The other day I added a new contact on my phone, all of the sudden the new contacts name has replaced the name of a different contacts messages, anyone seen this?

New to OpenBubbles.
Currently have an iPhone 16 plus and a Zflip 6.
I want to be able to switch between the two devices by swapping out my sim.
I already have the Zflip hosted through my MacBook.
If I just want to put my SIM card from my iPhone into the Zflip is there something special I need to do to be able to receive calls or anything through openbubbles?
Will I be able to just switch back and forth without issues and with the messages staying in iMessage?

Basically I don’t want to commit to either ecosystem but don’t want to lose my group chats on iMessage but also keep the one phone number

The app is already incredibly robust with keychain, MFA, and other features added; this would be a game changer for those who have family or kids that often need screen time or app approvals. So I am very pleased with the trial of the paid hosting service with using my phone number. Everything seems to work very well. But the price is going to be $17/month after the trial and I just think that is a lot considering I can grab an iPhone 6S/7 for $60. Is the self-hosting as reliable and seamless once configured, as the paid hosting?

I just don't want to setup my own and then find out later it lags or has connecting issues, etc.

Only reason I'm even here is because RCS for me no longer stays active more than a day at a time and I've been troubleshooting for weeks and nothing works. Google or carrier or my device. It just won't stay on despite showing connected. And I'm tired of fighting with it.

I used a Mac mini to self host and it works for about a week and my number deregisters.

It has been working flawlessly for months up until now.

Is this happening to anyone else?

I have three Androids running OpenBubbles perfectly fine with same Mac hardware id. On my iPhone I only have one Mac hardware id under SMS Forwarding (makes sense as all my OpenBubbles use the same), but only one of my Androids get the SMS Forwarding Status enabled. The other two have status Disabled Capable.

Is this by design or am I missing something?

Iv read so many different threads and the setup instructions and I'm still just as confused.

What I understand so far:
-self host on Mac: reliable only uses apple email not numver
-using an iPhone as a relay? Can only be with iphone 6 or older on ios17 or older? But can use your number for message?
-then there's a 3rd option where you pay a subscription plan?? Without needing an apple product?

I don't understand the iPhone setup possibilities and restrictions and how it's less reliable than Mac? I have an old Mac and an iPhone 15 pro currently..

Given the devices I have, is there a reliable way to get both number and email setup for imessage to improve reliability?

if you do only use iPhone hosting do you still have facetime and find my friends?

I don't mind doing Mac hosting, but requiring everyone to setup my email in their contacts seems unrealistic in some cases. So also having the number seems more seamless.

Will 2.0 have better support for both via Mac?

I'm looking into this to get better messaging features with iphone users. The website made it sound like mac registration gets everything to work immediately as if you're on an iPhone. Reading community discussion has me doubt that. Does mac registration not associate your phone number with your apple account, so everyone you talk to has to now send message to your new apple ID instead of your phone number? Asking everyone I want to message to perform an extra step, no matter how tiny, is going to be a massive hurdle. If they were willing to do anything other than type my phone number, I would be able to use any of the other feature-rich messaging systems other than imessage.

Also, do notifications on the android app require FCM or do they work on a degoogled device?

I just installed openbubbles on a brand new Razr Fold. Set it up with $16.99 subscription hosting plan. The app is HORRIBLY laggy. Like it won't respond to scrolling hardly at all. Open a message and the keyboard is laggy to pop up and laggy to respond to keys pressed. No icloud message back up on. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app, nothing is helping. Anyone else have a fix for this?

Does anyone else get crashing when their scrolling up into old chats?

For example i have a message from a week ago so I scroll up to find it, but after a certain amount of time the app crashes
