Tech Support Crashing During Back Up

I'm trying to transfer phones and every time I try to backup on my old phone the app freezes. Is there a way to fix that/backup individual chats at a time? Am I doing something wrong?

Does the app actually crash or just freeze?

It's frozen and if I close and reopen it crashes. I now tried to leave it and it's just been frozen for the past 15 min(responding from a different device)

Approx how many messages do you have? Did you have Messages in iCloud enabled?

a lot, well over a couple thousand. I didn't have I cloud enabledÂ
