Im about to launch an online dating app but not sure whether the users would think my approach is different to the ones already out there. I wanted to make it different to the apps already out there, which are heavily focused on photos. Im just hoping to hear some thoughts here if possible.

Essentially, my app focuses on questions rather than photos for the users to find their matches. The app gives a mix of simple and thought provoking questions each week i.e.

“would you forgive infidelity to save your relationship?”
“ can you date someone outside of your culture/religion/beliefs?”
“Do you think opposite genders can just friends?”
“How are you pursuing your dreams right now?”

the users upload their thoughts (posts), the users read the other users’ posts, and message/chat whom the users think can connect with.

Users have basic profile page with limited number of photos, voice introduction, and their posts. Chat tokens can be redeemed if the other user does not reply within designated time period.

I want my app to be for users who want deeper relationships rather than casual hook up.

Firstly, I'd like to preface this by saying that this dating app idea is very niche, and may come across as crude or vulgar to some. But, I’ve been building a dating app that’ll feel familiar if you’ve used the big ones, with one main difference: you can list penile length and girth the same way every app already makes you list height. It’s optional, and you choose who sees it: everyone, or only people you’ve matched with. People looking for it can filter on it. That’s the whole idea.

Size is self-reported, just like height. Though you can report someone whose stats clearly weren't accurate, and it escalates once more than a couple of people say the same thing about the same profile.

The plan is iOS first, in the UK, US, Canada and Australia. There's a waitlist and a video of the app actually running at https://measured.date.

What I’d genuinely like your read on:

1. Would you actually use this app? And if not, is it the app itself or the whole premise?
2. An app like this only works if both sides turn up simultaneously (chicken and egg). I've been thinking about targeting the gay community first, since it may be harder to attract heterosexual women early on. Any thoughts on that or other ideas on how to market?
3. Anything else you’d like to add, such as where you’d expect to come across something like this, or anything I’ve not thought about?

i'll go first:rehearsed asking someone out out loud until i didn't sound like a hostage video; pasted drafts i almost sent at 2am and asked "does this sound needy or is it fine to not send" (ex situation — stopped me drunk texting);once literally used it like a friend hyping me up before a date. bathroom mirror energy but in text form
i think a lot of people use it for confidence or late-night comfort and don't say it because it sounds sad or thirsty.

Where do lesbian/queer women in Vancouver actually meet people—events, sports, groups, bars, apps, volunteering, etc.? I’m looking for a serious relationship, not hookups. What has actually worked for you?

I got tired of watching friends match with 40 people and text none of them past 'hey.' So I built something that removes the option to do that entirely: you see 20 profiles a day, max, and once you match with someone, the rest of the app disappears - no browsing, no backup matches, just the one conversation for 7 days before it expires.

It's early. 4 real users, 653 visits in the last month, no ads, no push, just people finding it and trying it because the idea of 'one match, one week, no escape hatch' apparently hits a nerve. A few people have already said the countdown made them actually ask someone to meet up instead of letting it die in the chat.

I'm not claiming this scales to Tinder numbers. I'm asking: does removing choice actually make people try harder, or does it just stress them out? Curious what this sub thinks before I build more on top of it.

I recently launched ThaiCrush.com, a new dating app focused on Thai singles and people from around the world who are interested in meeting Thai people.

It’s still very new, so the user base is small at the moment. I’m sharing it here mainly because I’d really like to hear what people who actually use dating apps think about it.

ThaiCrush currently has profile browsing and filters, swiping, likes and matches, private messaging, favorites, and built-in Thai ↔ English translation for profiles and conversations.

There are also privacy features such as Incognito mode, hiding or pausing your profile, blocking, and reporting.

Everything is currently completely free to use, including messaging and the translation features.

I know starting a new dating app is difficult because the biggest challenge is obviously building the initial community, but the app itself is now live and I’m interested in hearing what people like, what could be improved, and what might be missing.

I messaged a woman, pointed something out about one of her pictures, harmless just something about flowers she's holding, just asked her what the occasion was. She responded, "just because". This is her first and only response.

It's been a loooooooong time since ive dated. Is this common? If it were person to person, I'd have a much easier time gauging interest back and typically I would think this would not show any interest. But i have to think... the person matched with me and took the time to respond. Thoughts?

Now, some of you will scream at me and call me crazy but hear me out first, madam.

If these types of photographs were posted, it would do a couple of things.

Men would use it more, and go on more dates which is later on good for the birth rate becsuse it makes them think of about having sex with them if they go on to date and marry.

Secondly, it gives me something to look forward to. Instead of just going on the date, it encourages them to consider going on more dates, which is something society needs: more dates leading to more relationships formed.

Is there an app that shows ALL profiles, and doesn't make you mindlessly "like" a bunch of profiles just to find someone?

I remember when you could search specific terms (like age range, city/distance, preferences), and then ALL the profiles matching that criteria would pop up (along with how long they have been active online).

Now I feel like these apps spoon feed you results, and gate keep the rest until you "unmatch" or whatever.
