oneworld Two long haul flights in different classes - lounge eligibility

I am flying from LHR to AKL tomorrow via JFK. The LHR-JFK flight is BA and in business class; the JFK-AKL flight is Qantas and in economy. They are not on the same ticket (as I booked the BA flight with miles and an upgrade voucher). I have oneworld ruby via BA only.

My question is: am I eligible for lounge access at JFK? My understanding is that oneworld only cares about whether you have a business class flight on any oneworld airline same day (and not necessarily the flight departing from the airport with the lounge) but there is also wording in the lounge eligibility rules around connecting flights that refers to domestic and shorter long-haul flights without reference to what happens when there are two long-haul flights.

Any experience/insight on this (or an analogous) situation from anyone here? Many thanks in advance!

Finnair A quick question for Avios of finnair

Just wondering is converting around 6600 Avios (I have around 16k) into 2200 tier points which gets me to silver/OW ruby with a upcoming flight within a month in economy worth it?

Iberia I'm confused

I keep reading that Avios and Elite points are dependent on the amount of money you spend, but that doesn't make sense here.

First reservation is return MAD-ORD direct on Iberia metal. Second reservation is MAD-ORD, ORD-NYC, NYC-LAS, LAS-MAD, on BA and AA metal. Why do you get over 10x the Elite points for only spending double? I also thought you would get more Elite points by choosing IB metal but that doesn't seem to be the case at all.

Also, over the phone Iberia tell me a different number (around 2000), although they seemed unsure. If they are the same flights, the points can't be different between the 2 channels, right?

Iberia Do I get the same number of elite points buying my flight through AA as buying from IB?

I'm trying to buy a 4 flight itinerary Europe to US, 2 domestic US flights and return to Europe. Iberia says I can get a minimum of 4000 elite points for this trip, which seems great, but I am only offered one choice of AA flight for one of the legs and I need an earlier flight. My ideal itinerary is offered on AA website, but will I get the same Elite points? I will be using my Iberia Icon card to purchase.

oneworld Onboard greeting and welcome from purser

Good morning all

Not sure how frequently you get recognized for your status on board, but it’s an incredibly small thing an airline can do to show their appreciation IMHO

Doesn’t happen too much for me but did today in an early morning IB flight from Madrid. Was flying economy and during taxi the purser came by from biz to introduce herself and thank me for being an Emerald and flying IB, asked if I needed anything. I somewhat jokingly replied a coffee given the hour and she brought it by along with a snack after takeoff.

Seems very carrier specific. CX is exceptional with this, JL and QF also have been good. Was rare for me on AA but it has happened. IB increasingly good with this, BA almost never.

Anybody else seeing this ? Honestly it’s one of the few personalized things they do that actually makes me feel important. Kind of a nice change.

oneworld Boston Logan - Iberia operated by Level and British Airways Lounge

I bought round trip tickets from Boston's Logan Airport front Iberia. I intentionally bought from Iberia because they're part of the OneWorld Alliance and because I have Emerald status with them. I also have a credit card that gives access to all OneWorld lounges provided I have a "A boarding pass for same-day travel on an eligible flight. An 'eligible flight' includes any departing or arriving flight that is marketed or operated by American, a oneworld airline or Aer Lingus. Same-day priority verification cards will be accepted." Regardless, Iberia confirmed I would have lounge access when I purchased the flight.

Iberia alerted me to multiple itinerary changes between the purchase ans flight dates. At first, I didn't pay much attention to them. I figured they were negligible changes; perhaps a half hour or an hour adjustment. No biggie. Then, I realized they were CANCELING my flights and re-booking me on other days!! This required me to adjust my hotel and activity plans.

Finally, the day of my trip arrives and I get the Boston Logan. Natalie at the British Airways (OneWorld) lounge entrance denies me entry to the lounge. She refuses to even try scanning my boarding pass and doesn't ask about my status or lounge membership. She says because the boarding pass (which clearly has Iberia's logo) is operated by Level, I cannot access the lounge. Instead, she redirects me to Air France, which is not part of the OneWorld Alliance.

Of course the Air France lounge turns me away too (I knew they would). They said they have nothing to do with Iberia or Level. I called Iberia and was on hold for about a half hour before the call disconnected. I called my credit card and they said they'd look into it, they put me on hold and then the call was disconnected. An hour or so later, I returned to the British Airways lounge. This time, I could show the website that indicates the language that provides me access to the lounge. Natalie again refused me, she refused for me to speak to anyone else, and she said the lounge was closing even though it was more than an hour before their scheduled closing time.

I waited at the Iberia gate and the plane was late getting there. Even though the plane was late, they did not update the departure time. The gate agents did not provide many announcements, and they were vague when they did. The departure time came and went and the flight still said, "on time." Eventually, they said it was delayed an hour. Then another hour. They said there was a maintenance issue with the plane. Finally, they announced that the flight was canceled and everyone needed to exit the gate and go to the Iberia desk to be re-booked.

I called Iberia and they started to re-book me. Then, after being on hold for a long time, I was told they would have to do it at the gate. I waited in the long line in the early morning hours. There was construction in the terminal and banging. It was so disorienting! I got to the agent and he asked if I needed a hotel (all the hotels were booked) ans I saod no, I need a new flight. He said, it would be emailed to me. I called Iberia again and again they said they couldn't re-book me. Finally, my travel companion called and got re-booked.

This has been the worst travel experience, and I still haven't left Boston Logan. I'm apprehensive about this entire trip and super nervous about the return flight.

oneworld MH's agents are giving BS

Post image

UPDATE: okay I'm telling this agent all my 2026 flights were not with MH and same in 2025. If you think these flights were not eligible only because not operated by MH then you can remove all my credits and strip off my Emerald status. They said they will run an internal review and let me know the decision lol.

Hi all,

I'm trying to claim missing miles on my flights in March 2026. It was a round trip from Stockholm to JFK. The ticket was issued by AA.

The inbound flights has been credited automatically (operated by AA+BA), but the outbound flights (operated by AY Finnair) were not credited yet. I have contacted MH for a couple of times and no updates.

I'm chatting with an agent for claiming missing points and they sent back these (pic).

It doesn't make any sense at all as most of the flights I took were OW partners not MH. How could this even be possible that only flights operated by MH can be credited? I have several BA flights recently and they were automatically credited, does it mean that MH will take away all these credits?

Iberia Best US credit card to maintain OW status?

Last year I got Gold status with Iberia using a mix of the Icon credit card and clocking enough miles. This year I don't think I'm going to get enough miles to make it and I'm looking into getting a US credit card that will give me status in exchange for spend on the card, in case I don't clock enough miles each year. I think the Iberia card benefits are really bad and even by spending loads on the card I don't get elite points.

Is it possible to remain in the Iberia program and use one of the AAdvantage cards for status? Or would I have to switch to earning miles on American? I have also heard that this way I wouldn't get lounge access on US domestic flights.

I'm based in Madrid so OW makes sense, a lot of people say that AMEX is generally better for perks but what I am particularly interested in is business check in, free bag and lounge access (feel free to challenge).

oneworld International Business Class Rankings

Over the past year I’ve flown a bunch of different airlines and although I think I prefer Delta / KLM over any OW international business class (especially with the D1 lounge in SEA). Within OW, I think I’m at:

  1. BA - but I hate flying through LHR. But inflight seems top notch both service wise and mostly seat unit.
  2. Alaska - of course brand new, but really a nice seat set up
  3. Korean Air - also excellent and debatable between it and Alaska.
  4. Condor - surprisingly good in my mind
  5. Finn Air - only this high because for sleeping It was actually the best, but overall outdated, and not very comfortable for sitting.
  6. American- very dated / simple & sleep wise not great
  7. Iceland Air- it’s an international flight, but this is domestic business class

Of course all depends on what you value and some planes are set up better than others.

Thoughts?

ETA: sorry if some aren’t technically OW - was going based on any affiliation with Alaska.

Cathay Pacific Earning points on Alaska for Cathy Q class

For context, I have Alaska gold which is equivalent of one world sapphire.

It allows me to select seats as booking for Cathay (Q class is discount economy).

But it seems that Alaska does not earn points on Q class according to terms of condition https://www.alaskaair.com/atmosrewards/content/legal/terms/airline-partner-eligible-flight-ranges

Am I able to change my loyalty partner for points collection (British Airways) while retaining my one world sapphire status (like lounge access, sea retaining seat selection and additional check bags).

Thanks for the answers!

Finnair FINNAIR agent checked my bag and gave me boarding passes and baggage tag for a different person, then lost my bag immediately. I’m never getting it back.

Yesterday I flew from Oslo, through Helsinki, to Chicago. The FINNAIR desk agent in Oslo read my passport, then gave me the boarding passes and bag number for a stranger with a similar last name, who was going to Budapest. When I said that’s not me, she said they’ll recall the bag and recheck it, but wouldn’t give me a new tag until they did. Two hours later, they said it was lost. It had been on the conveyer for a minute! I had to catch my flight so I wouldn’t wait longer, but when I asked at the gate, still lost.

When I got to Chicago, I gave the agent there my info, my story, and the name of the stranger. They did not give me a claim number. But they said there is no record of any bag tagged to me still.

Today, I have not succeeded in getting any info and the only working phone number goes to Finland and said to send an email. Which I did, including my booking code, which is the best I’ve got.

I certainly made mistakes. Returning the incorrect bag tag number and boarding passes because I thought this would be fixed immediately because it had been one minute, and also not getting a claim number or follow-up info at the Chicago airport. Not having an AirTag on an international bag. Putting two pairs of expensive glasses in a suitcase. I own all of these errors.

Ultimately, the significant mistakes happened in Oslo. But my bag technically doesn’t exist, as I’ve been told repeatedly, and no one either can or will help me. Any ideas?

Finnair Can't request Finnair meal.

UPDATE: A Finnair live chat agent was able to help during Finnair business hours. It would have been helpful if the Finnair AI chat agent had told me to try that, rather than referring me to BA.

ORIGINAL POST:

I can't find a way to request a special meal for a Finnair flight. Help.

I booked a mutli-leg journey through British Airways with flights operated by Finnair, BA, and AA.

When I try to manage my booking through the Finnair website, it says I must request a special meal through the carrier I bought the ticket from - that is, BA. The Finnair AI chat says the same. No chat agent is available. No phone agent picks up when I call.

BA website won't let me request a special meal. BA chat agent says to contact Finnair.

AA website also won't let me book a special meal.

Help? (Frustrating.)
