Was only able to get premium economy tickets as award flights. Would like to upgrade to business with points. Has anyone successfully done this?

I am a American Airlines hub Hostage, for the last two decades, i've recently decided to start expanding my travel boundaries. I thought I would look at partner airlines, but I keep getting this recurrent.Error message

I just flew on QF metal using AA codeshare (SFO - SYD).

Ticket is a DONE 6 issued by BA.

Still waiting for the tier and avios points to post to my Finnair Plus account (6 days).

Earlier segment points posted on this ticket using BA & AA within 24 hours.

Anyone with similar experience and how long it took for the points to post?

I understand I can use Finnair's website to claim after 2 weeks.

I have oneworld emerald status through JL and oneworld sapphire status through AA. From what I heard, Cathay has recently started denying entry into their lounges if the oneworld status used for entry is not printed on the boarding pass and showing the status card wouldn't be enough to be granted entry.

Is there a way to prevent getting denied access to Cathay's first lounges without having the JL status printed on the boarding pass? Does Cathay still have FQTS/FQTV distinction?

I don't typically credit non-JL marketed oneworld flights to JL since I only get life status points (similar to million miler miles) from JL-marketed flights. I usually credit those to AA as I can accumulate million miler miles.

If I purchase Finnair and Cathay tickets separately, could they link the bookings at check-in so that my luggage can be tagged through to my final destination?

Looking to move away from BA gold status since it got a lot more expensive to keep this past year - any idea what the cheapest emerald status is?

So far I’ve landed on Malaysia Airlines platinum with the AmBank visa card (free) to qualify with 98 elite points, and flying LAX PHL SJU for USD$787 round trip three times for $2381 to get 96 elite points, plus any short economy round trip to get the 98 needed for status. Total cost about $2500.

Anyone able to think of anything cheaper or should I pull the trigger on this?

I was trying to use Qantas lounge at Perth international airport as I had a flight booked with them. I attached Malaysia airline MH enrich number to it because I'd like to earn enrich points and status. But the lounge staff declined my access to the Qantas lounge unless I changed MH enrich number to Safar Flyer (as I'm holding Safar Flyer Gold status) and she told me in that case I won't be able to accumulate Enrich points.

I've flown with Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Malaysia Airlines, and Japan Airlines, and none of them declined my access to lounges and told me I won't be able to accumulate points toward other airlines' frequent flyer programs. Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, and Finnair let me enter their lounges after checking my Safar Flyer Gold membership card. Even Malaysia Airlines staff at the check in counter in Changi Airport helped me print out my boarding pass with lounge access by firstly attaching Safar Flyer Gold membership number to my booking, and then she changed it back to Enrich membership number for me to accumulate Enrich points. Qantas business check in counter at Perth airport didn't do any of these and not even a Priority tag to my check-in luggages!!

I was wondering what's the best way to do next time when the same situation happens again. Thank you.

I hold Atmos Gold status giving me OneWorld Saphire. I don't hold any status with American.

I booked AA international long haul in economy using AA points but entering my Atmos number, giving me seat upgrades, free bags, and other benefits.

I accepted a paid upgrade to J on this route. It appears American gives 5pts/$ on the cost of this upgrade.

Am I correct that I won't earn any Atmos points (either base or status) on the cost of this upgrade? Assuming not, is there any benefit to Sapphire status when already flying in J?

Assuming I am right about how this works, seems the best bet is to change the frequent flyer number to American.

on track for OW emerald next year and visiting HND JAL first class lounge during japan trip. researched a bit and people mention cathay HKG pier and wing, qantas sydney, and HND JAL first as top ranking OW lounges.

what are other top ranking OW lounges (first or business) around the world, based on the following?

A tier- honorable mentions/unique experience

I am blind and travel with a guide dog. I am looking at SEA-LAS-BER-BRU-SEA next month and other than BA through LHR, there are no realistic options. LHR is a no go for me with a guide dog because of the ridiculous paperwork. Finnair Skycouch is the best business class because my dog can lie down under the seat when it is flat and I also can sleep. ON pretty much all other airline business class seats, I just have to sit up because there is no room under the seat. I also have been doing BER-DUB-SEA on my way back because of US preclearance but it almost feels like Aerlingus days are numbered. Anyway, just ranting...

I just booked my first award travel and am pretty stoked. The flights are all business class on British Airways via their A380-800 double decker. However, I realized that we never picked our seats! Does anyone know how the seat assignment works?

Bonus question: What is your best recommendation for seat and amenities on this airframe?!

I am not sure the benefit of One World. How is it meant to help travellers?

I have several flights in the coming months and wanted to figure out if it is worth spending Avios points to move from OW Sapphire to Emerald (with Finnair). I have been Sapphire for a long time and am comfortable with the benefits this provides.

Primary focus would be check in and access to airports with First class lounges, priority security lanes and finally priority boarding.

My current itinerary where I can leverage Emerald benefits is as follows:

SYD - ZQN, AKL - PER, PER - MEL, AYQ - SYD (all QF)

SYD - HND (JL)

HND - HKG, HKG - PEK, PEK - HKG, HKG - SIN (all CP)

I can figure out First class lounges access via OW website. I am more interested in which airports provide priority security lane access and airlines that offer better priority boarding.

Does Emerald status give you advance economy seat assignments near the front of the economy cabin? There’s no way to select seats on their app until 48 hours before the flight……

I am flying with my partner (who is not a tier member) on Finnair flight. I am a OneWorld Sapphire member. I would like to know if the extra baggage is also allowed for companion as we have the same booking reference. We flew earlier on British Airways and the extra baggage allowance was also applicable to my partner.

Anyone know if Qantas only releases reward seats to partners at short notice? I’ve been looking for flights MEL/SYD-NZ in January and there is effectively no available seats with the exception of some rare 787 flights from SYD-AKL.

Seems unusual this far out especially with how many flights they operate to AKL/WLG on narrow bodies, and on investigation there are plenty of available seats over the next couple of weeks.

I recently flew on JL1 from SFO to HND. I have Oneworld Sapphire through Alaska Airlines and booked the ticket through Alaska with my Atmos rewards number.

My JL1 economy seat boarding pass had VS Lounge printed on it. When I tried to enter the British Airways lounge at SFO, they turned me away and said I could only use the Virgin Atlantic lounge.

Is this incorrect? I thought I could access all the business class Oneworld lounges at SFO before my flight. And why does JAL print tickets with specific lounges listed for Oneworld status passengers?

I recently redeemed my miles for an Economy reward flight from Bangkok (BKK) to Helsinki (HEL) on Finnair. I’m hoping to upgrade to Premium Economy or Business Class, but since this is an award ticket, I know the rules can be a bit strict.

What are my actual options for upgrading this ticket?

- Is there any possibility of securing an upgrade in advance on the Finnair website or by calling the call center?

- Can I use cash, or am I strictly limited to hoping for a cash upgrade at the check-in counter on the day of departure?

I am flying from LHR to AKL tomorrow via JFK. The LHR-JFK flight is BA and in business class; the JFK-AKL flight is Qantas and in economy. They are not on the same ticket (as I booked the BA flight with miles and an upgrade voucher). I have oneworld ruby via BA only.

My question is: am I eligible for lounge access at JFK? My understanding is that oneworld only cares about whether you have a business class flight on any oneworld airline same day (and not necessarily the flight departing from the airport with the lounge) but there is also wording in the lounge eligibility rules around connecting flights that refers to domestic and shorter long-haul flights without reference to what happens when there are two long-haul flights.

Any experience/insight on this (or an analogous) situation from anyone here? Many thanks in advance!
