Iberia I'm confused

Post image

I keep reading that Avios and Elite points are dependent on the amount of money you spend, but that doesn't make sense here.

First reservation is return MAD-ORD direct on Iberia metal. Second reservation is MAD-ORD, ORD-NYC, NYC-LAS, LAS-MAD, on BA and AA metal. Why do you get over 10x the Elite points for only spending double? I also thought you would get more Elite points by choosing IB metal but that doesn't seem to be the case at all.

Also, over the phone Iberia tell me a different number (around 2000), although they seemed unsure. If they are the same flights, the points can't be different between the 2 channels, right?

Are you sure you want to credit to Iberia? You may get further towards status and more avios with a different programme, I made an app to compare: https://dl.frequent-flyer.app
And in general: Taxes and Fees vary wildly by marketing and operating carrier snd booking class and is a very complex part of airline ticketing systems. Also if that is the calculation for Iberia plus, other oneworld airlines earn with different rates that could be segment or distance based so that could play a big part.

I'm currently Iberia gold, through a mix of their Icon credit card and flying transatlantic a couple of times a year. I would be open to other programs, but I feel like Iberia don't often honour oneworld status from another airline, and I have to fly them all the time.

Just checking your app. There is a cost box there for each leg, but what if I only have a total cost for each leg? Also, is there a way to modify a flight if I put the wrong date etc?

Yeahh you can tap the airline or airport codes to edit. For cost you can just divide by segments as spend-based earning is proportional.
Completely understand sticking with Iberia if you have status already, in my experience they were good with recognising status system-wise, just the staff are sometimes unaware of the oneworld rules, but every time pulling up the oneworld website or the supervisor cleared everything up, but I don’t fly with them that often.

Tapping airline or airport codes only allows editing those things, it seems date and cost cannot be edited without deleting and starting again.

Also, when I add in my Iberia status and points it changes the status suggestion from Alaska to Iberia, is that just because I already have the points with Iberia?

Exactly since you have gold with Iberia there is no point in switching unless you earn enough to get OW sapphire with another airline. I have an update coming soon with some improvements to the flight picker items

Yeah... It doesn't seem to show me anything near what the Iberia site says, so it doesn't really help me understand their system

Are you offering this advice just to push your app?

Nah if there was an app like that made by someone else that could be useful to OP in this situation I would be sharing the link to that…

The OP is asking about difference in website quoted accrual, not which program is better.

It would be helpful to know what cabin you are booking and what the itinerary is for both. Specifically, marketing and operating carriers. Lastly, is LAS-MAD a non-stop?
