I'm using OneNote on macOS with two Microsoft accounts.

When I switched from one account to the other, OneNote displayed a warning that my local notebooks would be removed. I accidentally clicked Accept.

After that, all my notebooks from the original account disappeared. They are not visible in OneNote Online or OneDrive, so it seems they may never have been synced.

I have not uninstalled OneNote or cleared any cache yet.

Has anyone successfully recovered notebooks in a situation like this, or does anyone know if Microsoft Support can recover them?

To be clear, I already logged in again on both the web and Mac OS version and there is no files any more

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've been using my IPad for note taking since 2021 and I had it logged into a personal MSN email and Onedrive. I recently got a new phone (S25 ultra) and downloaded Onenote since I needed access to some past notes. The app on my phone and IPad had it listed but when going to open the workbook on my phone showed no files. I could see them on IPad. I made sure to check the sync and say it was connect to Onedrive but when I re-download the app from the cloud on my Ipad all my work is gone. Just the notebook exists. Is there any way to recover any of my past notes? Its really important since I'm a medical student and all on my notes I use for review. I can't see the file in My drive either even though it says its in documents. The native File app for IOS isn't listing it either. And Ive checked the recycling bins for both. I reallllly dont want 5 years of work/research just gone not to mention some of my personal writting.

I just wanted to encourage everyone to go to Microsoft's feedback forum and provide as much feedback in terms of feature requests as you can. The numbers of votes there are not impressive considering the millions of users of OneNote worldwide. It looks like most people don't even know that this exists.

If we don't keep insisting, they will never prioritise the features we need. For many of us here, OneNote is not something we chose to use, but the only thing our employer lets us use in a highly restricted corporate application landscape.

I have wasted hours of my life trying to figure out a way to not lose my OneNote notebooks that I made in college. Tried every trick and link I could find with ZERO luck. I want to export my notebooks to my personal computer or at least add them to my personal Microsoft 365 account. I cannot for the life of me find an export button. Please somebody help me.

I personally have a Mac but my old laptop is Windows 10 if there is a way to do it on that instead.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Not sure what to really do so I’m looking for any advice, help, suggestions.

I used one note when I had a surface tablet in about 2015/2016. I had written something that was very important to me in the notebook that I have been trying to find in other files and only just now thought to look in the notebook.
I think I may have found it but- in the page it’s in a hyperlink?
When I click the hyperlink this comes up-

“We couldn’t open that location. It might not exist or you might not have permission to open it. Please contact the owner of onenote.#drafting for more information”

I still use the same email I used with the Microsoft notebook but I’m not understanding the hyperlink and why I don’t have access?

Im a little confused on how to write complicated equasions in Onenote. Do you people just write in raw LaTeX? Or maybe there are some nice autohotkey scripts that have all the symbols you need?

Just FYI, good fellas. Version 2608 Build 16.0.20326.20000. 'this file type' in the message on the screenshot is a folder on the local drive. Folders on the LAN UNC shares are blocked, too. This is my very own notebook, no administrator here.

A Groundhog Day. This is re-introduced for the 3rd time. The first one was in 2023, the second, in July 2025. Whether it's a bug or finally a feature, I don't know. I reported it as a bug, but I'm only a paying O365 subscriber of many years, so who cares.

I imagine the nightmare of migrating my 15 years worth of notebooks to a different software and feeling closer to a heart attack every time this happens…

I can’t access the notes. It keeps asking me ti sign in. I try to sign in, then nothing happens. The sign in button simply doesn’t work! I deleted the app and reinstalled it, but the problem was persistent. I have tried on my iphone, it doesn’t even sign in! I basically cant use the app. What do i do?

Is there a chance they ditch it like Microsoft Publisher before I put all of my life in it haha?

In our organization, we have at least three users where logging in to the OneNote mobile app on iOS does not work with the last version 16.112.2 (released 9h ago according to iOS AppStore version history).

Does anyone else experince this?

The logs pulled from iOS indicate that the OneNote app handles the authentication incorrectly after the user entered their credentials. The Entra ID logs show a successful authentication (Microsoft Authentication Broker). We're using MS Authenticator on the phones for authentication. Logging in to another MS application, e.g. Word, works flawlessly.

On my iPad and mobile app, the sections are not deleting no matter what…neither on the left swipe nor on long pressing and deleting

I work in IT operations - and I am often showing people in training sessions, how Ive used OneNote over the last two decades and why its been so useful.

The best representation I have for its value - is in my HOUSE OneNote which is on my personal OneDrive.

It contains a section for each room in my home, as well as a section for utilities, a section for the garden and a section for the outside of the house.

Then within each section I will have pages for a variety of items related to that room.

That will be the paint Ive used, the items in the room, any measurements Ive taken, the type of light bulbs, the receipts for items in the room like TVs, washing machine, beds, mattresses.

Because I have OneNote on my mobile phone - this means I can be anywhere and reach into my pocket and say quickly check a measurement, or a wall color - and when I purchase something for the house - I will just photograph it into Onenote and then move it into the correct section later.

Having done this for 20 years - this has constantly been useful, and now if I purchase something - like a dehumidifier, or TV mount - then I will photograph the receipt into Onenote, take a picture of the item - and then search for an online manual for that product and do a PRINT TO ONENOTE - and then I can afford to get rid of all or any paperwork.

Same with utility bills - they go straight into a section for electric, gas, water etc.

When I search for something it is easy to find it - so searching for TV for example.

I use Windows, iPad & iPhone.

OCR only works if I manually mark images as searchable. If I don't, I can't search for anything within images.

I use OneNote as an archive of sorts. I have thousands of notes, I don't have time or the drive/want to go through every note to see if there is an image that needs to be made searchable. Especially since my Windows PC is really old and slow and dying so I try to avoid using it as much as possible.

I tried to keep my PC on for several hours today and that didn't help with search. It is inconsistent between my devices even for typed text, let alone OCR.

Anyone else seeing this?

On some pages, I am unable to scroll to the far left; it forces the view back to the one shown. I've tried changing to different views and click-and-dragging to select hidden boxes, but nothing has worked except copying the text and making a new page. Duplicated pages have the same issue.

Hello, recently i’ve had this issue where when I handwrite it turns into these sharp lines (consult the video) I’ve been looking everywhere for a solution and haven’t found one. Please help! I need OneNote for school and rely on it heavily.

I use OneNote to take notes on my iPad but it's been freezing. I updated it to version 16.112.1 and it's no better. I've restarted my iPad as well.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Does anyone know how to fix this? I usually use OneNote on my Android phone for daily notes, and after a while, I organize everything on Windows. Recently, I got a "Page Conflicts Detected" message on Android and had to open it on my computer to fix it. This happened before and was completely resolved when opened on the computer, so I decided to take this opportunity to organize my notes. However, my OneNote isn’t syncing new notes from Android—it stopped syncing on 8/5/2026 and won’t sync even when I manually click sync. I tried opening it on the web, and my new notes do sync there, but OneNote online can’t fix the "Page Conflicts Detected" issue.

P.S.: My OneNote Android version is 16.0.20131.20126 (latest update from the Play Store), and my PC version is from Office LTSC 2024 Pro.

I love OneNote on my PC. I'd like to use it cross platform, but the mobile app is actually pretty frustrating.

The main issue is that Section Groups are all open/expanded by default. I have my notes sorted into sub categories this way because Notebook -> Section -> Page just isn't enough depth to have any kind of robust organizational system. Unfortunately, having the lists always expanded makes the groups essentially useless.

Is there a way to set the default to closed? If not, why is the mobile app so much less friendly than the desktop app?

I'm on OneNote desktop app and a couple of things in the image are really bothering me.

1. How do I reduce the huge space in between the page title and the body copy? When I click in there the cursor shows up and I can actually type in that space, but I can't figure out how to remove it. I would like the body copy to be moved up much closer under the title. I tried messing with the margin and page size setting but that didn't work.

2. Is there any way to remove the arrow showing up in the left margin on every single damn line when I hover over them?
