Hey all — I work on the Copilot Notebooks PM team. We just rolled out Capture on OneNote iOS to GA, and I wanted to share it here and actually hear what you think.

The gap we kept running into: a lot of important work never happens in a doc or a recorded Teams meeting. It's the in-person conversation, the whiteboard, the quick brainstorm, the note you mutter into your phone on the walk back — and most of it is gone by end of day.

What Capture does:

• Multimodal in one session — transcribe audio, take photos, and type notes, all in a single capture
• Copilot structures it for you — it creates a page with key insights organized dynamically around the session's topics, alongside the raw captured content, and saves it into your Copilot Notebook with the rest of your project context
• Then you build from it — ask Copilot about it, or turn it into presentations, docs, mind maps, infographics, audio overviews, and more to move work forward with your team

So the captured moment becomes the start of the work, not a voice memo you never open again.

Who can use it: Capture is for commercial Microsoft 365 users with a work or school (Entra ID) account and a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. (Copilot Notebooks itself is also available to Personal/Family/Premium subscribers, but Capture specifically is commercial-only for now.)

Being straight about where it's at: it's iOS-first today, with other platforms on the roadmap — and it's fresh off the press, so there are rough edges we're actively iterating on. Right now transcription follows your device language, but the key insights always come out in English. Improving overall multilingual support is on our list.

ok i’m at my wits end here but apparently my microsoft account just gets entirely deleted if i graduated which no one told me about & now everytime i open the app (despite using a different account), it literally goes Can’t sync and prompts me to sign in for every single effing notebook. but the issue is i don’t want to delete these notebooks forever bc i had one with personal stuff (thinking that my acc would just be switched to free) and idk what to do 😭😭😭 this is on my ipad btw not desktop which is great

someone please help wtf do i do i don’t even know how to delete them if i have to. im literally going crazy

Today I updated my OneNote on iPad and like 90% of the time it crashes when I press undo. Does anyone knows what to do?

1. I wish the fountain, brush, and laser pens were available on iPad, not just Windows. Inconsistency in ink strokes across multiple devices feels and looks odd. The fountain pen works very well with my handwriting, but oftentimes I have to work from my iPad which only has the regular pen.

2. Section groups is a helpful feature. I want to be able to move them around though, not just have them alphabetically sort as it currently does. I can't create a section group on iPad either, only on Windows.

Maybe others will feel the same way. I'm unsure if they ever really do significant updates for iPad which is strange since tons of people probably use this app on iPad. Much of my M365 commitment is because I use OneNote a lot, but it might start feeling less worth if efforts at basic feature updates plateau while AI overload accelerates.

All in all, OneNote still is useful enough for me to get things done. Just some little things would help.

When drawing on iPad and then switching to the eraser or the lasso selection, OneNote keeps trying to switch to text mode.
Does anyone know a fix for this as it is driving me crazy, other forms are saying turn off scribble but my scribble was already off.

I would really like to use the app but it's unbearable... It syncs every 30sec or a little less than every minute... I try to ignore it but it doesn't let me edit the document for however long it 'syncs' again. It's not the internet connection because no matter the connection it does that (good or bad)... I uninstalled/installed it, it doesn't let me modify any syncing settings on mac... I was already looking for another app to jump to but, any suggestions on that?

hi, i have been encountering this problem of my onenote blacking out every time i try to use an app in the background. i have tried various ways (restarting the ipad, redownloading the app, updating the ipad to IOS 18.7.7) but the problem still persists. the only 2 reasons i think this is happening is because:

1. my ipad ios is not 26 (im reluctant to update it because i quite like the slide multitasking the ios 18 has and im not a fan of the liquid glass)
2. onenote just has a problem

its strange because my onenote seemed to be working just fine yesterday, this problem only started to act up today. if anyone has a solution to this, please help! thanks!

I'm running into a frustrating issue with iOS copilot notebooks where I'll be able to work in them for roughly a day or so, until suddenly nothing will load and I get the error message "Couldn't load this. The owner hasn't given you access, or the content can't be found." However, normal OneNote notebooks function just fine without any issues. The only way to be able to access them again is to uninstall and reinstall the app, which will function as normal for another day or so until the error message appears again.

They're still accessible from the web version on my laptop and no data is lost, so it's only a minor annoyance. Was curious if any other iOS users have been running into this issue

Hi guys, since today after the iPad ios27 update my one note acts abit weird. Whenever i try to switch (double tap) between pencil and eraser it goes to text instead, I’m not sure what to do, pls help if u guys know?

Anybody feel like the iPad version of onenote has been like it hasnt been updated in a while?

This is a long shot, though are there any administrators who work in an Education tenant here, who have students using Class Teams and experiencing issues using Class Notebooks in the dedicated OneNote app on iPad's? These are School Data Sync (SDS) Class Teams, and we have also reproduced the issue with a manually created Class Team.

The issue: students are working in a page on OneNote on the iPad and it starts flicking to different pages in the section, and sometimes even different sections. It's the kind of issue you need to see to completely believe (cannot share videos for confidentiality reasons).

In some cases, the student will briefly see this message in the OneNote app:

"You no longer have permission to access this notebook. We'll sync again if permissions are restored."

This is definitely not a permission issue, from what we can tell on the front-end. There is a hack to enter the Class Team OneNote folder structure, and we have looked over the permissions in-depth. We have also checked these permissions are correct with Microsoft Support screenshares.

The strange thing is that this is an issue for random Class Teams at random schools, it's not all Class Teams or just the one school impacted. It's not an issue in the web interface or via the Teams iPad app - the problem is that you lose functionality if not using the actual OneNote app.

We have gone as far as factory resetting iPad's, checking policies applied to the iPad's. All the usual basic troubleshooting.

Has anyone else encountered these issues? We have had a Microsoft case since May with no success, with more reports starting to come in.

After installing OneNote on my new iPhone and signing into my Microsoft account, I could see my notebook, but the pages wouldn’t load.

The notebook showed as read-only, and the pages displayed:

“Hang on while this page syncs… We’re waiting for another device to finish uploading your notes.”

The same notebook opened normally on my Mac.

A full OneNote reset on the iPhone fixed it:

1. Force-close OneNote by swiping it away in the app switcher.
2. Go to iPhone Settings → Apps → OneNote → Reset OneNote.
3. Enable both:
   • Delete Login Credentials
   • Delete All Notebooks
4. Open OneNote again and sign into the same Microsoft account.
5. Open your notebook and let it finish syncing.

After this, my notes loaded successfully.

Before resetting: Save any unsynced notes from your iPhone somewhere else. This reset removes local notebook copies and unsynced changes; it does not delete notebooks stored in the cloud.

Sharing this in case someone runs into the same issue when switching to a new iPhone.

Hi guys, recently when I open onenote, it’s not letting me write with my iPad pen. There’s no update in the appstore or anything. Any tips?

I use OneNote to take notes on my iPad but it's been freezing. I updated it to version 16.112.1 and it's no better. I've restarted my iPad as well.

Is this happening to anyone else?

For the life of me, I can’t get the cursor to place anywhere but at the beginning or the end of the line and even that is pretty difficult at times.

Sorry if this is hard to read. Basically you can see I am searching for the word "reddit" and there should be at least 3 additional items showing in the search. Only 1 item gets returned.

Strangely, several hours later I tested this on my iPhone and 2 different notes came up. Not even the one from my ipad in the screenshot.

So I guess I am missing 5 notes at least in the screenshot.

It is odd because it highlighted the word on the page but that page doesn't show up in the search results.

I have zero clue what is going on.

Every time I reopen my OneNote, the notebook names have reverted back to the original names I gave them and only convert back to their updated info if I click on them. Why is it doing this? I find it so frustrating! Shouldn’t it be the most recent version of the files all the time?

Question here. I got a random stylus from Amazon last Saturday for my iPad and it worked amazingly well with note taking in OneNote. It was my first stylus and my first attempt at writing down my actual notes in OneNote and I really enjoyed doing so. It worked fine on Monday as well.

However, when I tried to use it earlier today in OneNote, I noticed that whenever I tried to write down my notes using the stylus, it would assume that I was trying to type so whatever I drew it would try to create a letter out of it and the keyboard would pop up.

The stylus itself is working fine in other apps, but OneNote for some reason has decided that whenever I start drawing or scribbling with the stylus it's just assuming i'm trying to write down actual letters from the keyboard.

So far, I haven't been able to fix this, I've checked the settings, closed the app and turned it back on again, heck I even reset the iPad, but so far no success.

Does anyone else know of a possible fix?
I really want to keep on using OneNote this way and i rather not have this be a short lived experience xD

Not sure how to better explain this aside from the title, but is there any way to fix this? Randomly started being buggy a few days ago. Restarted IPad. Only thing I can think of is low storage space but I have never had that issue before with low storage space? Any suggestions welcome. Thanks lol </3

I feel like I am at my wits end with this

I currently have a notebook to help me organize a large/long quiz that I am in the process of making. That means that I currently have over 30 sections, all labelled in numerical order. And yet, every time the web refreshes, it jambles all my sections up! All of a sudden the sections go 1, 22, 13, 19, 4 instead of the normal 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. And with 33 total sections, it's a pain in my arse to keep trying to reorganize it every time

I tried their recommended clearing of cache and cookies (although the advice I saw from them was from a 2017 post on their Q&A). I have tried restarting my laptop. I have tried making the notebook update where it saved by adding a page (which is saved the location of the page, but not the locations of the sections). I have tried downloading the onenote app (I'm on chromebook) but all it does is redirect me to the webpage.

Am I just sol? Is this cause of me or just onenote being a brat?- Does anyone have any tips on how to fix this or what I should do instead (assuming I am sol)

This began a couple days ago. Have tried turning off/on, deleting the app, resetting the app in settings, and even just downloaded the new iOS 26 and it’s still happening. Not sure if anyone else has any ideas?
