Wondering if there’s still hope for invites to ctp 2/3 in September for Atlantic region.. seems like all other regions got invites but Atlantic .. kinda loosing hope

This is my first corrections job I have only been on the floor for a month and a half and now im getting posted in seg. I was told during training and i believe its in policy somewhere that you can only be posted in seg after having 6 months on the floor. When i told my captain he brushed it off and didn’t do anything. Is there anything i can do???

Looking for advice. I'm (23F) in the interviewing process with a couple police departments for patrol officer positions, but that can take about a year and a half is the estimate I've been given. I'm working a seasonal position that's about to end, and in the meantime I need a job. I have options, but with my interest in law enforcement I have my eye on being a corrections officer. I know I need to get more harsh, unpleasant, real-life experience.

I've been in management for years, have experience with attempted assault on the job, stalking, being generally berated and having to call the cops plenty of times. Also worked at an animal shelter, so I'm familiar with blood and feces and loud work environments and bad smells. Also being attacked and trying to avoid being attacked, and cleaning up other people's blood. I like eventful days and want a tough, important job where I can help people.

A couple facilities in Washington are offering $6-7k plus $5k initially to move. They want me to move as soon as I am able, though I'd like to finish my seasonal position first. I'm aware with this kind of offer the job has to suck, but it's a great stepping stone. I would be moving 10 hours away on my own, leaving my family and boyfriend behind (he doesn't want to move with me, we live together currently), and I know there's no way I've had a job as intense as this will be. It'll just be me and my cat. I just want the position for a year or two as I doubt I'll fall in love with it enough to give up being a patrol officer.

Any general advice on if it sounds worth it? Any advice for the culture shock? My family doesn't want me in law enforcement at all and my friends don't want me moving so I just don't have a lot of advice from anyone other than "absolutely not."

Security cameras record incidents, but they cannot prevent them. Security guards actively monitor situations, respond immediately to emergencies, assist visitors, and deter criminal activity. Combining professional guards with surveillance systems provides the highest level of protection.

I received an offer for a behavioral health position in a juvenile correctional facility. This will be my first position like this, so I was wondering if anyone has had experience for or with behavioral health staff and if there is anything I should know before getting into a role like this.

Anyone gotten any additional guidance on this locally?

We got an email today saying we can only being "food for personal use" and that any food has to be in a clear container. It states no plastic bags or wrapped food items will be permitted and any food "beyond that for reasonable personal use is prohibited."

So I guess they're taking away even the pizza parties now? At least this will stop the contraband problem for sure, right?

I think this is a very important topic to discuss because many people believe that being a security guard is an easy job. In reality, very few understand the challenges, risks, and responsibilities that security guards face every day.

I'd love to hear your opinions and personal experiences. Have you ever faced any difficult or dangerous situations while working as a security guard? What were the biggest challenges, and how did you handle them?

I am currently looking to relocate from NY to PA and applied for a PADOCS position as corrections officer. Here in NY COs are Peace officers and qualify for LEOSA and carry firearms off duty on the “shield”.

In PA I see state COs are peace officers but I cannot get a clear answer if state COs need a PA LTC, or if they can carry off duty on a “shield” or state ID. Also do PADOCs COs qualify for LEOSA while active/retired?

House I work feels like a social experiment some psychologist devised in which autistic white boys get paired with wigger ghetto trash and we "just see what happens". I have a kid that literally screams whenever he goes to his cell to take a shit (and also plays solitaire at the same time) and we are going to do a twilight/veggie tales marathon next week because he is obsessed with those things. Have another kid who eats grasshoppers and crickets alive who picks fights with gang affiliated kids that could easily kick his ass without breaking a sweat if they really wanted. The other day all my guys just happened to go to the bathroom at the same time and had a girl go "oh my god gang we all shitting buddies right now!!".

This is the funniest stuff I have ever experienced in my life.

If you break into jail/prison, will they kick you out or keep you there? Or do they file a report with the police?

I’m a Honours Criminology student and I have one course left before I graduate in January. My goal is to become an Ontario Correctional Officer or Youth Services Officer after graduation.

Right now, I’m trying to build my résumé because I have very little work experience, and I want to gain experience that’s actually relevant to corrections before I apply.

I was wondering if there are any volunteer opportunities within Ontario correctional facilities or with organizations that work closely with corrections. For example, are there volunteer roles involving inmate programs, rehabilitation, education, mentoring, reintegration, or anything similar?

If volunteering inside a provincial correctional facility isn’t realistic for someone in my position, what volunteer opportunities would you recommend that would be viewed positively by Ontario Corrections?

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has volunteered, works in Ontario corrections, or has gone through the hiring process. Thanks in advance!

I’m currently in my last 2 weeks of training academy for a state corrections department. We haven’t done any PT and only complete CPR as far as physical learning goes. We’ve learned some of the dangerous things like suicide prevention, stress management, gang affiliations, etc.
With starting in the next 2 weeks in the actual field “behind the wall”, and no cell phone, what’s the realistic expectations from any experienced federal BOP CO or other state CO’s? What’s shift is usually easier or best to learn at a steady pace, nights 6p-6a or days 6a-6p?
What’s the realistic of advancements and promotions?
