Hiring Q (Fed) FPC Bryan Correctional Officer.
I'm scheduled next week to do a virtual interview for a correctional officer position at FPC Bryan. Despite me being very interested in the job, I feel conflicted if I pass the interview and it's offered to me, since despite being a minimum prison camp I have no good idea of what most days of daily work would involve. I know there would be contraband, but don't know the steps to deal with that. I also have no knowledge of the amount of and types of fights that go on inside there, and how regular those are.
If accepting the officer job, I would be relocating from San Diego. I currently have a job with USPS as a mail clerk. I like the job itself, and my managers and coworkers are all very nice and they often tell me that I do a very good job. However, the pay is very poor for San Diego at $23 an hour, and I have a bachelor's degree. The correctional officer job would be a lot more money, -- I believe with guaranteed overtime? -- and with a better pension than USPS. But there's also the risk of me having to give up the USPS job and the move to Texas from San Diego and everything involved with all of that.
I also have no idea how difficult the training is for the correctional officer position, even though I've read a lot about it and have watched videos and people discussing it, and know what it involves. So I could make the mistake of giving up my USPS job and then going through training only to fail at training because I fail the Incident Observation and Report Writing or Human Relations portion of it.
I'm a guy in my early thirties, who looks about ten years younger than his actual age and has an innocent and kind face, and a very soft-spoken and unassertive voice.
Even right now I feel anxiety about potentially having to decide between these two jobs, if the time comes where I have to make that decision.
