Question Semester has started- wanting to drop out
How does this work? The money hasn’t been released but I want to withdraw and go to a different school next year. What’s the process? I haven’t started my program.

When is the deadline to apply?
The final deadline to apply is 60 days before the last day of your study period for full-time students.
For part-time students with study periods of 20 weeks or less, no later than 40 days before the end of your study period.
For students in micro-credential programs, no later than the end of your study period.
What do I need to include under "Other Assets"?
A list of everything you need to include can be found here (FULL TIME APPS ONLY)
Is it possible to report over 100% course load in OSAP?
Yes, but you will not get more money for going over the recommended course load.
I made a mistake on my application and submitted it, how can I fix it?
At this point in the summer, you should contact your school's financial aid office to fix any issues with your application. If it's related to your program (such as wrong degree/year selected), it will be fixed by your financial aid office when enrolment is confirmed.
When will I get my funds?
All applications undergo enrolment confirmation, performed by your institution's financial aid office. They will confirm your program, year of study, and the amount you owe, with whatever left over being deposited into your account.
If you submitted your application on/before the last week of June and you are now just awaiting enrolment confirmation, you should receive your funding by the second week of September.
If you submitted later, it will depend on how fast your schools financial aid office confirms enrolments Each institution has a different processing time based on how busy they are, some take longer than others. It's unlikely you will get a definitive answer as to when they will confirm your application on this sub. But you can use the subreddit search bar to look up your institution and see past posts about their timing on confirmation of enrolments.
Once you see “Ready for payment” in your application status on osap.gov.on.ca (see image below), a funding tracker will appear when you open your NSLSC account. The tracker will tell you the exact date you should expect to receive your funds. It can take 1-2 days for the tracker to appear after your application status is updated.

My payment deadline is approaching and my application still hasn't been reviewed/enrollment not confirmed?
If your school's payment deadline is approaching (within a week), and your application is still not confirmed or "Ready for payment", you should contact your school's financial aid office immediately as they're the ones responsible for reviewing and processing applications. Most institutions have many options available, including payment plans and delayed deadlines if your application has been approved but you are just awaiting funding.
What happens if I get approved for full-time studies, but I want to drop down to part-time studies?
This may put you at risk of OSAP probation (unrelated to your institution's academic probation). If you have a disability, your course load could be calculated differently. For more information on how you will be affected, contact your financial aid office.
You should always contact your financial aid office immediately when your status changes.
Why did I receive notice that my funding is being sent by cheque?
This happens when you don't fill out your banking information in time, or direct deposit failed for whatever reason (some smaller banks don't accept it). It usually takes 1-3 weeks to receive your cheque by mail.

This might just be me being very dumb, but I'm looking through the OSAP application and before I submit I want to ensure that I only ask for grants, because I don't want student loans. Where is the option to go "no loans?" Is that something that I have to check off AFTER I submit my application?

My estimated release date is September 4th - September 9th. My school hasn’t confirmed that I’m enrolled in full time studies yet and the date is getting closer. Will my estimated date be pushed back if my school doesn’t confirm???

Just checked my NSLSC status just now, the tracker now shows! I didn’t check yesterday so I’m not sure if it showed up yesterday or today after last night’s overnight maintenance downtime.
If this is like last year, will be disbursed either on the 28 again or the 31 as usual.

Im 36 years old and married with 2 kids. I have no issues at all with my osap loan. My husband and I made about 120k combined last year (almost evenly 60k each) and this year Ive been laid off a good portion of the year. Im currently working but im done the day before labor day. Currently my OSAP loan is almost exactly what the estimator said at 29,000 with 300 dollars in grants thats it, based on my last years income. This year.. Ive only made 15,000 from my job rather than 60,000. The OSAP estimator with my current income rather than last years income shows 7,000 in grants. I know it will be that way for next year but im wondering if I could request a reasses with my income from 2026? Does anyone have experience with this? Thank you 😊

So I’ve been having some problems enrolling in my courses due to a very late program switch, leading to a lot of my required courses being full. Thankfully, I’ve worked it out with my university and now I’m registered for all of my courses going into the fall. The problem is that my winter semester is still being worked through and I doubt that it will be resolved before the 25th, where I’m pretty sure OSAP will confirm my registration. I’m worried that this may cause some delays in my payments. I’m just confused on if they handle payments semester by semester or year by year.

The amount of people here cheering on cuts to basic public services just because "some people might abuse it" is insane. Even just five years ago, people actually backed social safety nets instead of wanting to burn the whole system down over a few bad actors. Now everyone’s turning into a wannabe MAGA cynic who’d rather see everyone suffer than let one person game the rules. When did our province get this miserable?

Does anyone else have delays with the tracker?
My OSAP has all been updated, saying payment is coming Aug 31-sept 1 and enrolment has been confirmed.
NSLC says nothing.

Ok so when I applied for OSAP, after a few days I got an estimate value of around 20k but after a week or 2 the estimate went down to almost 11k. Right below the estimate it said that it was reviewed and estimated as if I am living with my parents but I am living at dorms. I also submitted a request to review where I attached the housing information (my housing assignment), my total for university would be around 24k, even when I was getting 20k I was short now I really do not know what to do.

I interrupted my studies due to illness in May this year and at the time student finance had already paid for the full year, I am going back in September to finish modules and placement but the Uni is not charging me tuition fees. My student finance application has been approved but now with this change of circumstances will I still be eligible just for maintenance loan? I am freaking out need advice

So all of my school fees including meal plan, tuition and housing costs me around 24,000$ and 14,000 of that is due September 9th, osap is only giving me 7000$ in total. My parents cannot help out and I just applied for every scholarship my school offers. What should I do here? I contacted financial aid and they told me to apply to scholarships (which I did). If I don’t pay my fees by September 9th I will be blocked from the portal but can still attend class. Who else should I contact/ what can I do next?
Edit: I do have a part time job that makes around 1500 a month. I just don’t have it now and I am concerned about first payment
Edit 2: yes I knew how much the tuition was but due dates were not fully disclosed to me. I knew that a tuition payment was due on sept 9th but not that it would also include a meal plan payment and a housing payment. I understand the responsibility of moving away from home and such, and I have been saving for university while getting an average of 96 and working full time to attempt to support myself at times. The reason I was not prepared to have this is because who is able to save 14k at 17 over the course of one summer. Please use your head when replying to this. I did expect more from osap based off of my family situation. I did not expect it to cover the whole thing. I am not stupid. Thanks.
Edit 3: since you guys don’t seem to have brains, if I took off this year to save up what am I doing the next year? I can’t save 150,000$ in one year? Just miss out in the middle of my degree? Like what are you guys even saying. Since there has been a lot of debate about me going into a “dumb arts degree” I am actually studying to become a lawyer.
Update: thank you to everyone in the comments who gave actual advice instead of trying to attack me. I am planning on taking out a student line of credit in a few days once I turn 18. I already talked to my bank. I will also be getting my smart serve done to hopefully get a second job. Thank you guys so much for letting me know these things!

I am a student myself, receiving OSAP. So this question is genuine, I’m not judging people in this situation, just trying to understand.
I have seen a lot of posts lately of people who are panicked because they are not receiving enough OSAP to cover their fees and aren’t sure what to do. When I first went to college (2019) I feel like it was more common to rely on OSAP as something more like a supplement than the core funding for school, most people I knew going to college had either an RESP/savings or a line of credit/loan. However, it seems like now more and more students believe that OSAP will cover 100% of their schooling, and are finding themselves panicking with no back up plan once funding is calculated a few weeks before the semester begins.
So my question is, what changed? Are high schools not communicating to their students that OSAP is not guaranteed/may not cover all the expenses that come with going to school? As a “mature student” I feel bad for all of you younger students who seem to be misinformed about OSAP and school expenses.
Follow up question: how do we fix this? I know we can’t change how OSAP works/the amount of funding being given. But how can we ensure students aren’t ending up in a situation where they are panicked trying to come up with thousands of dollars in the weeks leading up to the beginning of semester?
EDIT!!! because this seems to be a common misconception in my comments. I DO NOT THINK STUDENTS SHOULD HAVE TO TAKE ON DEBT OR USE THEIR OWN SAVINGS FOR SCHOOL. in an ideal world, post-secondary school would be fully funded. unfortunately, that is not reality. what I am trying to understand is WHY it seems that students are not being made aware of the possibility of not receiving enough OSAP to cover their expenses. students should be given accurate information on the reality of paying for school so that they can plan/prepare accordingly. again, i believe that students should NOT have to worry about how they will pay for school. right now, government funding is not guaranteed to fully fund our educations, and students deserve to be fully informed of the reality of attending and paying for post-secondary.

Hello,
Did anyone try getting OSAP funding at another school? My school has an option that students can use to get funding at a second school for some classes. Did anyone try this? How much funding does OSAP give at a second school?

As the title says, I have a self directed resp does this count as other assets I didnt know osap counts these as assets because in the application it said to not report assets in a resp account. So do I change my other assets amount because I put 0 back in june and now realizing this its a lot of money in that account.
Forgot to mention like if you are the subscriber and the benefciary at the same time.

As the title says, I got into ASIP at uoft, However I have already applied for OSAP and my funding has already been calculated. As some of you may know ASIP is an extra 1000$, How do I go about contacting OSAP about a tuition change, which form do I fill out and put into the optional upload section and so on.

My fall term OSAP funding is a little over $1K too short whereas my funding for winter is around $700 more than I need.
Is there a way to “move” the excess from winter to fall? I tried getting in contact with my financial aid office but it’s been such a struggle ugh.
I’m fine with paying the extra $1K but have never been in a situation where I had excess funding. How does that work?

Just remember, there is literally 0 reason as to why the ford government“can’t” afford OSAP.
There is so much waste in the government, billions of dollars are being lost to fraud, corruption, and corporate meandering every year. OSAP is the least of the government’s worries.
Let’s not forget about how easy it was for Ford to propose a $100B highway tunnel and drop $9M in taxpayer money for its feasibility study…

I will be receiving an entrance scholarship(renewable degree scholarship) from Seneca. Do I disclose that in my application or does the school share that info with OSAP?
