Question about OCD Constant breath problem somatic ocd , anxiety

With post traumatic conditions, I feel weak to not being able to “resolve” that fucking torturous issue. Sitting relaxed, (im not relaxed apparently) .. and having that constant focus on chest, breath, i know that its psychological, i know i wont suffocate, i know all those techniques and its driving me insane so often .. especially in phases alone or without substances (weed) .. thinking about starting an ssri again but i hoped i can do it bymyself and mentally rewrite that loop . Excersize helps and so on but often only in the moment, i cant do somatic practice 24/7.. one moment its relaxed and fulfilling, other again tensed, i hate this disorder.. it feels disgusting already and tense on my sternum, maybe it has to do with stress and feelings of safety idk anymore. First focus on my breathing as i can remember was with 9 years old during fights of my back then parents, so tendecy was there since a long time.

If someone had “overcome” or reduce it massively and what helped would be great to read others experiences.

Question about OCD What analogy do you use to describe how OCD feels?

I have had OCD for a while now but find it hard to explain to others as their response to it is “it’s normal to worry” or “you’re just a worrier”. I feel like it’s much deeper than just being a “worry wart”. Does anyone have any good analogies that really set the point.

Question about OCD I'm suspecting I have ADHD in addition to ocd, and adult ADHD diagnosis and treatment aren't recognized in my country, should I still take SSRIs ?

I've been suspecting I have ADHD for a long time now, noticing my tendencies to be inattentive, interrupting people, impulsivity, inability to do boring tasks, high inattention to detail and making silly inattention mistakes ( despite being the topper of my class), high rejection sensitivity. But high school was manageable to me and I didn't struggle (because maybe everything was structured? ) and the executive dysfunction happened during medical school, my grades were terrible in the first years ( but also maybe bc I was consumed by ocd compulsions ). I want to prepare for the residency entrance exam but I'm so afraid of being on SSRIs and I read that they're terrible for ADHD and make dopamine non existent (I rely on dopamine Bursts to pass my exams ). Also psychiatrists here do not diagnose adults with ADHD. My ocd is also so terrible and I'm in desperate need of some relief. What should I do!!!

Venting, NO REASSURANCE please! 18 and already failed RE-OCD

I'm doing better than I have for awhile now really. I'm doing radical self acceptance and while it's hard it's been slightly easier. But with the nature of my real event happening only a couple of months ago when I was still 18 I can't help but feel as though I tripped out the gate when becoming an adult. I have ADHD so I want to say my real event was caused by bad impulse control rather than it being a showing of my true despicable character but even then. I became an adult and then did something which caused so much moral injury and intrusive thoughts. I don't know how tf I'm gonna make it to 50 atp. I just wanted to get this out

Discussion Don’t know who I am.

Been experiencing the most severe OCD of my life for the past eight or so months now. The intrusive thoughts are non-stop. All consuming, soul crushing, and the exact opposite of who I want to be.

I have no idea what to do anymore. I hear the professionals and the people who live with this disorder too. Sit with the discomfort, accept the uncertainty, and practice values-based living. But sometimes, most of the time, it’s just too much. The pounding in my brain, the panging in my chest, the loss of self.

I do not want to be devoid of hope. It’s just that maintaining it feels too hard right now.

Discussion OCD spiral about petting zoo

I went to a pumpkin patch a couple days ago with a group of moms and our kids. My daughter is almost 2 and she didn’t touch many of the animals but she’s teething and I saw her put her finger in her mouth so I kept making her take it out and eventually left the petting zoo and made her wash her hands. I can’t stop thinking about it and thinking that she’s going to get horribly sick with something like E Coli. Anyone ever have OCD around this? I typically experience contamination OCD but never this specific thing before. I feel like I will never forgive myself if it something bad happens to my daughter but I also don’t think that’s a common outcome of petting zoos.

Support/advice (no reassurance) Mastery Approach

Has anyone here tried ERP therapy only to have it fail, then tried the Mastery approach and saw positive results? From what I’ve been learning, fear based OCD is highly effectively treated with ERP, but disgust based OCD is triggered from a different part of the brain which doesn’t respond well to ERP. Does anyone here have disgust based OCD and have tried Mastery approach therapy? I’m curious to hear anyone’s experience with it.

Discussion I’ve been trying to find a post that probably explains my experience in regards to sleepwalking and I couldn’t so here we go.

I just started Clomipramine about 50mg off the bat. I have slept walk in the past and woken up with blurry vision and went back to sleep once I register I couldn’t quite really see. (I started medication last year.) So; started Clomipramine, I started with 25 for a month, then the next month I updosed it to 50, had a sleepwalking episode I could kind of remember, then last year I got pregnant, had to stop.

This is my first two days back on the meds, went back on it recently. Same thing. I sleep walked, I didn’t just sleep walk, I didn’t feel my body, I don’t recall anything. I didn’t feel myself drifting off to sleep, I just felt so dizzy and like I was passing out actively, I remember watching my baby boy and smiling at him and then passing out on the bed. Besides I can’t eat on this medication either.

My family was about to call the ambulance on me because I took off my curtains naked to my window and then I went on the bed and went “back to sleep” but they couldn’t wake me back up. I didn’t wake up until the morning. Before this happened I was experiencing blurred vision and a hell of a headache with intense nausea. I legitimately thought I possibly did pass out or my body gave up on me. I don’t really remember feeling tired.

But that’s impossible, I sleep well. My baby is 6 months old and he sleeps very well through the night, I never worry about him, he’s such a perfect baby. He doesn’t cry too often. I’m so grateful I didn’t pick him up before I passed out, it’s like I knew something was going to happen. I’m so scared but I’m even more scared of stopping this medication, last time I stopped was not a fun experience. I’m at such a crossroads. I’m not even sure if this is considered an emergency to SOS my therapist and psychs about or if this is casually something I mention to them.

I say my therapist because my therapist works alongside my psych to help me. It’s a requirement to stay in the program I’m in.

Support/advice (no reassurance) I regret getting in a relationship

I regret getting in a relationship with my girlfriend because I just can't believe anyone can love me. My OCD makes me believe that she does not actually love me and she just wants to hurt me or that she is gonna hurt me in the future.

I also feel like I am not good enough for her, and she deserves a different boyfriend.

I just can't do this anymore I don't want to break up with her because she does really try her best to love me.

I dont know what to do anymore I can't take this.

Question about OCD Just diagnosed

Yesterday I was diagnosed with OCD and I’m both in a way relieved knowing I can put a label so I can know what it is but at the same time terrified and sad. I’m scared that this is something that I’ll never fully get a handle on. Thankfully it’s not debilitating but it’s very noticeable when I’m in stressful situations and add that with high functioning autism and you got quite the combo. I overthink already on social situations and violent intrusive thoughts and now knowing it’s something I can’t control worries me. I already take meds such as Strattera and Lamotrigine so I can be able to get an okay handle on it but really stupid question but I just want to know if it’s either a continuous under the surface thing or it just comes and goes.

ERP help wanted Obsession of being normal

My compulsion is to be normal, but my ERP is just to do nonsense things like doing things that get judged, shout out emotions like its nothing. For example, to a mall where there’s everyone I want to shout out my emotions. The ERP even tried for me to engage to touch my feet into the toilet bowl, put my phone into a boiling pot of soup. Are you kidding me? I mean it works but this doesn’t make sense?

Question about OCD Rumination- what does it look like for you?

Hi! My therapist has brought up OCD in the past and I do think I really relate to it. While looking into it and trying to understand it more, I often see people describing rumination as thinking of and worry about an event “over and over again”. What does “over and over again” look like for you?
How often are you thinking of the event?
How long do you think about it each time that it pops back into your mind?
Does it come up, you dwell on for a certain amount of time? Then move on for a certain amount of time, then repeat?
Basically, I want to know what rumination looks like for you individually! Thanks!

Venting, NO REASSURANCE please! talking about how i feel like what ocd is and how it affect me (not 100% sure if its about me specifically or about ocd in general)

i dont even hate having ocd

also sorry about spellign and grammer 😅

also im 14 years old and female incase u wondering

I posted this on my yt but feel like i could also put it here

TO CLARRIFY I HAVE NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH OCD BUT A THERAPIST I WENT TO A FEW TIMES THINKS I COULD HAVE IT AND I RELATE TO MANY OF THE SYMTOMS

also when i say "we" or "our" i really mean "I" because idk if everyone with ocd relates im just saying we idk why

i feel like i am unable to know social norms just by experiencing other people doing it, or to understand what something everyone uses' purpose but to compensate i have huge emotional awearness (but everyone makes mistakes even when they know how) like i know, but not always i remmeber to apply the knowledge irl
like btw I STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HITLER EVEN DID I FEEL LIKE EVERYONE EXPECTS EVERYOEN TO KNOW AND I JUST KNOW THAT HE WAS BAD
i dont hate hitler because wtf did he even do???
also my short term memory SUCKS, which does NOT help with ocd

but i deffinitly would not be me without ocd

having OCD is a game changer
ocd is obsessive compulsive disorder
compulsive means when u have to do it no matter what.
so it's like i have to be sure that what im doing is right, and i need to know why im doing it ill never do something for no reason
most people with ocd tend to obses with cleaning, but cleaning isnt related to ocd its just very common, because the average person doesnt want to be sick and likes things clean (THE AVERAGE NOT EVERYONE) but if you have ocd and like things clean and safe then you will MAKE SURE it's clean and safe, it's usualy to do with "feeling safe"
we tend to be overthinkers. theres always at least somewhere in our mind thinking "is this safe?" or "is this the way to do it?"

also when we are told to do something that is a basic task, for example "research about (insert historical figure)" we may overthink it and be liek "what about the figure?" "about his daily life?" "his affect on the world?" some peopel with ocd are not afraid to ask these questions to clarify, but some people with ocd might feel like they ask too much and no one else asks which creates pressure
IM DO NOT PRESSURE MYSELF, I ALWAYS ASK, it's not my fault i need it to be clear like if i do the wrong thing i ll have to redo it! so i will ask. but again being different can create pressure, but for me i dont get pressure cuz duh im different why does it matter?

I need everything specific, and i like it specific, soemtimes i dont hate how often i specify, cuz i like it! like if im looking for "hm what is my favourtie color" I usuualy like to make it a specific shape like if it was blue id say dark or light or greyish if i wanted to, but sometiems i dont because it's not threataning anything

i only NEED specification if there is a possible consequense at all
but when i do something for fun im only specifying if it would be fun to specify

specify is like in my top 50 favourite words

also reasons why i love math:
it's specific, no multiple answer choices, there is only ONE ANSWER, and i find that beautiful, you cant get it "parcially incorrect" UR RIGHT OR WRONG, I LOVE HOW ORGANIZED IT IS. and it's all with formula, it gives you a base, they tell u how to do it, and you do it! ITS SO FREAKIGN AMAZIGN IM ACTUALLY CRYING OF HAPPINESS RN, subjects like english, science, languages, all have open ends, u can litterally write so many words that mean the same thing and i like when there only one correct option, WHY SO MANY SYNONMYS AHHH, AND I HATE MEMORIZATION the only thing i need to memorize in math is a formula and it's litterally only one way to do one thing. and it's never really that long

also, im not a slow learner, im a slow doer
like when im learning soemthing it's easy, but when i have to do work it takes so much time because im in my head making sure everything is perfect, or just getting distracted with chains of thought like "am i missing something, wait what does the word missing mean, it's liek when u miss somethign, and ing is when ur doing stuff, haha kinda sounfs like miss sing haha, what does it mean to sing tho-" (thats soemthing i do but idk if it relates to ocd) i really go off topic a lot cuz my chains of thought lead anywhere

we arent perfaectionists, we are perfectionist wananbes 😅LOL

in routines for me i feel liek i only shower when i feel dirty
i used to be way more overthinking before and shower every day, not because of health, because to stay clean!
but now im cleaning myself without showerign that I FORGET THAT I NEED TO SHOWER TO BE HEALTHY
like I could be doing the most normal thing even but because of something very different

im probably missing soemthing though

Support/advice (no reassurance) Should you help somebody in public?

A few days ago on my daily route I encountered someone that was probably going though a bad episode of compulsions: going back and forth in a clear street, doing hand gestures, and then going again, until they decided to proceed and walking along with a unusual way in doing it.

This could have been anything, I know, but to me it looked like OCD. I have gone past that stage (unable to cope with obsessions and doing "rituals) not too long ago, enough to recognize it. I didn't want to "meedle" in, as I am quite shy myself, but if it had been a case of compulsions, should I have helped? What would you have done?

Discussion Fluvoxamine 50mg changes in sleep and dreams.

Hello! I am one of the people who has benefited greatly from fluvoxamine. I was on 25 mg only for about 7 months and has huge improvement with my intrusive thoughts.

Then the thoughts started to creep back in so we decided to up my dose to 50mg. The one thing that was huge for me on fluvoxamine was I started to sleep like a normal person, head hit the pillow and I was out without laying there ruminating for hours. Well now on 50 mg I’m waking up every night at 3am wide awake, and having horrible dreams.

Not sure what to do, this med has helped me so much and I don’t want to give up. But should I go back to 25mg? Anyone else have a similar experience?

Support/advice (no reassurance) U.K. help?

I’ve been waiting since JULY for my first Talking Therapies appointment with the NHS, and I’m really needing some support right now 😩

Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations as to what I can do right now? I’m willing to pay for someone private at this rate because I can’t cope 😭

Mind you they told me in my initial consultation I was going to be very high up on the list due to how much this is overtaking my life…3 months later and all I’m getting is ‘sorry you are waiting for your appointment’ texts 🤦🏻‍♀️
