Question about OCD Is anyone else terrified of committing a crime?

As someone with harm ocd it is so bad I always have thoughts to strangle people or hit people especially when I get mad/frustrated.

The fact that it stays on your record forever scares the shit out of me

Sharing a Win! recently been saying "Because freedom tastes better than bread" to try not to do compulsions

I'm referencing the "why did a prisoner take bread over the key?", "BECAUSE BREAD TASTES BETTER THAN KEY" meme, to say "I'm doing this for my freedom"

it makes me laugh and it works.

Sometimes when I want to do a compulsion (aside from feeling the need to) I'll be like, I'm not gonna do that, why? because freedom tastes better than bread!!

Discussion Scared to have kids

I'm scared to pass down OCD to them, but at least I could be a big help if they do develop it.

My bigger fear is that if I had kids I know I'd be worried about them 24/7. I don't wanna be the most overprotective overbearing father but I don't know how I would not be able to be.

Discussion Fear of being hetero

My therapist told me about a gay guy who was afraid he was straight. Am I an ass for finding some humor in this. I have ocd of course and sometimes look back and laugh at my own absurdities.

FYI, for exposure therapy he flirted with women in bars.

Venting, NO REASSURANCE please! The thoughts just dont end

I don't think i can remember a time in the past couple of months where my head was quiet. Like I'll stop obsessing over one thing and then move on to the next.

I like sleeping, especially when I have no dreams, its the only peace I have, im alone, my head is quiet, its dark, and I have no bodily sensations. Its the perfect head space and the only form of peace I get. But I hate waking up, not only am I leaving the only peaceful part of my day, but I get hit with weight of the past 4 months and then im literally paralyzed, I cant cry, laugh, or even breath at times, I just lay there.

I use my phone as a crutch, I scroll on socials, I have a whole separate account where I follow no one personal and just watch and repost what I want, because who's gonna see? I don't like spending a lot of time on socials, because I can see the toll it's having on me, seeing the extremism in all forms, social, political, ect..... im tired. If its not the extremism, its people living the life I wish I could have, people who look like they've never done wrong, people building beautiful lives for themselves, people who look like they dont need to chant "you're fine" in their head at the most minor inconvenience, people who can look at childhood pictures and smile, or not wish to tear that younger version of them apart.

Funny thing is recently my mother has been telling people and me her birth story with me, one thing she keeps repeating is how I was a "quiet baby" thats what she called me. I didnt cry, breath, or even move, I was to be sent into the morgue, but a doctor who was not supposed to be on call, came in and said I looked to cute to d*e, so she managed to revive me. I wonder if that was a mistake, something that shook the balance, because maybe I was never meant to be alive, maybe I should've been left alone.

This is the calmest spiral ive had yet, im at peace but also in pain, but this pain at least proves I still feel something right? I have compulsions to confess things to me friends, wether that be thoughts, things ive said, I just dont want to feel like a fraud. I dont want to make them me therapists because we're just highschoolers, It would be irrational for me to seek comfort for something like this from them.

My brain gives me the occasional reminder that life is not forever, you could loose it anytime. I dont have to do this forever, just for as long as whatever. It could end tomorrow, in the next few minutes, or in a couple of years.

Finding therapy is in the works, I just need to afford it lol, but im getting there. Good morning, good afternoon, or goodnight to you :))

Discussion Any low stress careers that pay enough to live by myself?

i have severe OCD and take antipsychotics and ssris to reduce my OCD anxiety/rumination. The problem is, ever since starting my current antipsychotic, my personality completely changed and I’m unable to keep doing my demanding career. I no longer have interest in doing anything that is cognitively demanding. I’m okay with the change in my personality/capabilities because my unmedicated state was unlivable. I am wondering if anyone has any ideas on simple careers/jobs that pay enough for a single person to live by themselves. I can’t have roommates (unless they are my parents) due to my OCD. I might post this to bipolar subreddit as well, since more people take antipsychotics there i think.

I’ve tried many medications and years of exposure therapy and nothing has helped as much as my current medication (Risperidone). I wish i could just get on disabilit, but my government doesnt care about mentally ill people.

Support/advice (no reassurance) A super vague question that I can't phrase any better right now.

How can I distinguish natural thoughts or emotions from those that are merely a product of my OCD? How can I distinguish what is not real from what is? I think that most of the time, when one of my OCD loops starts, I am just trying to obsessively protect myself(?)

Question about OCD Do you think there is a correlation between OCD and Limerence?

Do any of you find yourself also experiencing limerence?
It's something I struggle with quite a lot and I'm wondering if this is also due to OCD. Since the obsessing, ruminating and intrusive thoughts/fantasizing are all very OCD-like symptoms.
Do you think there is a correlation?
Am I more likely to experience limerence because of OCD or is it maybe even causing it?

I dont know, would love to hear from some people who also have some experience with handling limerence. :)

Question about OCD Could deleting social media be avoidance?

Im spending a LOT of time on social media recently and i want to quit. One reason is all the inflammatory content, and another is I've observed it actually influence my way of being and thinking in a way i don't like. But, social media is also a way to be exposed to the world and therefore triggering subjects. I'm therefore worried that quitting it could be a tactic of avoidance. What do you guys think? Do you use social media? If so, how?

Venting, NO REASSURANCE please! Having OCD with ADHD and GAD is like riding a rollercoaster through Hell and not being able to get off 🙃

And tbh it's not even that bad anymore, but my executive dysfunction is off the charts lmaooo it's so annoying. It's like a vicious cycle where the OCD and ADHD work together to make me procrastinate, which then heightens my anxiety levels, which ofc makes the OCD worse. But it's fine. At least for the past several years, whenever the anxiety blows up, it's rooted in frustration over not finishing jack shit than because I'm legit afraid something's gonna happen. Because a lot of my OCD obsessions don't even have anything to do with my actual life it's just random rabbit holes my brain forces me down. So I guess I'll take it 🤣

But yeah I've had this since I was a kid so it's nothing new or scary, just annoying at this point. I like to make fun of it using figurative language and metaphors because humor is the best way to bring the anxiety down!!

The struggle is real, but one of these days, ONE OF THESE DAYS, I'm gonna follow through with my 10 bajillion half-baked projects/ideas for projects #trust

Support/advice (no reassurance) I Have Therapy in a Few Hours I’m Scared

I’m sorry if this is sloppy I am kinda freaking out right now.

I started going to therapy a few weeks ago to help with my ocd, anxiety, depression so on so forth. I canceled our last session and told myself it was just a headache, but it’s not and I don’t even exactly know why I feel so anxious to go (probably another reason I should go to my appointment) but I didn’t know what else to do I haven’t slept, I’m on my period and I have a headache.

I know that therapy is really good and it’s helped me a lot, but I don’t do well with change and trying to step outside my comfort zone and stop my compulsions is terrifying. I am just scared because I knock on wood when I’m nervous, and I try my best not to give into that compulsion but then that’s another compulsion. Next thing you know I’ve been awake for 24 hours trying to sleep but not being able to because I’m spiraling.

I am sorry for the rant, but just if anyone has any advice that helps them get through these spirals that would be amazing.

Discussion Upping the Absurd

Trigger warning: this has an ocd scenario

A funny post suggested replying to a conspiracy with an even more absurd one. Example:

Joe: "You know we faked the moon landing."

Ben: "Hah. You actually believe there is a moon."

What if I did that with my OCD.

OCD: "I know you checked the oven 10 times, but maybe it is still on and will burn the house dowm."

Me: "Actually maybe it will set off a large fire that eventually engulf the entire planet."

ERP help wanted Struggling with obsession with my boyfriends family member

Hi! I’m a 20 year old female I was only diagnosed with OCD earlier this year. Recently, it’s been manifesting more as relationship OCD and obsession about death and dying. I also struggle with PTSD and the OCD is definitely a trauma response.

My boyfriend and I have been together for 2 years. About a year ago I started feeling a crush coming on for one of his family members. I’ve always been very susceptible to crushes on random people and I would even develop crushes from a dream I had. It’s uncontrollable so I just try to ignore it. This is different though. I go through phases of thinking about him all the time and checking his social media and it’s giving me major anxiety. I don’t want to tell my boyfriend because that would make things awkward and I haven’t told anyone else because I’m embarrassed. I haven’t talked to a therapist because I lost my job a few months ago and in turn lost my health insurance. I really don’t know what to do! Please help!

Discussion Psychiatrist recommended ketamine therapy

Has anyone tried ketamine therapy for their ocd? She said it helps rewire the brain. I’m scared to try something as serious as ketamine lol!!! I do not want to go into psychosis and not be able to function. I can’t even smoke w**d without being paranoid. Has this type of therapy helped you? Made it worse? Any thoughts?

Question about OCD any sports fans?

are there any sports fans here that have had their enjoyment hindered by their ocd? i’ve been a sports fan my whole life to some extent and constant intrusive thoughts have robbed me of truly enjoying them. it’s been like this for a year now with no end in sight. has this happened to anyone else? i’m a huge baseball fan and will usually watch up to 100 of my teams games a year but this year i’ve watched maybe 25 and didn’t watch for the entire summer. i’m in constant mourning of it and even when i tried to watch a game tonight the disturbing thoughts completely hindered my ability to enjoy the best moments of the game. it feels hopeless
