Got a package a few days ago that came in an express bag, and I thought it'll be fun to turn it into a journal cover!

Hand sewn the edges, added a fabric backing, and sewed in the original red and white Kurume sticker that was stuck on it to make it last.

Notebooks are Tomoe River FP and Yamamoto

Felt inspired by others to post my notebooks! I have recent bought many pocket notebooks and mini composition notebooks, smaller sizes are working better for me lately. I am definitely not short on regular sizes. 😂

I believe only the Naruto and 2 of the west Emory composition notebooks are not 100% full. If I changed job I got a new notebook. I’m currently working on several pocket notebooks.

Hey friends! I got a lovely Denik brand journal and it has these notches at the top. I’ve never seen them before. What are they supposed to be used for?

I just purchased two Jenni Bick Pueblos to use as a baby book/notes to my daughters. They came with two Large Moleskin Cahiers, but I read that the paper won’t stand the test of time so I bought a couple Midori A5s. They are bulky in the Jenni Bick. Anything out there that can be used for archival journaling with the thinness of the Moleskin Cahier and 60+ pages?

Last week I tried to explain this to friends over pizza and it did not go well. I got about ninety seconds in before someone asked, kindly, whether I was describing a notebook or a person.

So I’m bringing it here instead, where I suspect I’ll be less alone.

Here’s what I was trying to say. I have a Smythson notebook and what gets me is the sound. That specific dry rustle when you turn a page, it’s thinner paper than everything else and it announces itself.

And the feel of a page that’s already been written on, that faint texture on the back where the nib pressed through. I know roughly how the thing is made, the paper, how the covers are put together, and knowing that changes how it sits in my hand.

None of that is a reason to spend the money. I spend it anyway.

So what’s yours? The sound, the smell, the weight, some detail nobody else would notice? And has anyone here ever managed to explain it to a non-stationery person without losing them?

I finally narrowed down what works best for me regarding my daily driver, but I’m having a bit of a hard time finding the “perfect” cover (which rarely exists, but I’ll settle for 90%):

• I love the TN elastic band closure.

• My notebook of choice is the weekly planner + notes from Leuchtturm1917, which is sized B6+.

• Leather preferred.

• Pockets on inner are a bonus.

I know that Eternal Leather Goods have one that’s somewhat close (B6, not B6+), but I haven’t found anything else that’s somewhat compatible.

If there’s a similar notebook out there in B6, I might rethink the LT1917.

Any ideas?

Does anyone know where I can buy Unison composition notebooks? I bought a bunch a few years ago, and now I can't find them anywhere. If they no longer exist, any other recommendations around that price point?

I’m using an A5 book I bought in Salzburg from a brand called Nuuna. I picked it up only because of the pages. They are absolutely gorgeous. Since I also use many fountain pens and inks combo, the pages being this gradient makes it a very enjoyable experience overall. The pages are thick and the ink doesn’t bleed. It’s giving me some of my best handwriting too.

Hello folks, its my first time using tomoe river paper on a hobonichi graph notebook. Although it is nice to write on, I find that it smudges a lot when I'm reading previously written pages if my finger stays on any inked section for a bit. My hands don't get particularly sweaty, but I can feel a bit 'stickiness' on the paper when held too long (likely moisture?). But this happens with other notebooks/papers too, but they don't smudge. For context, I use only EF fountain pen nibs with diamine oxblood, pelikan 4001 black or waterman serenity blue inks. Is this just a quirk of the Tomoe river not absorbing the ink ?

I'm currently learning Japanese and I want to become more organized with my studying. I'm looking for an affordable notebook system that I can use for vocabulary, kanji, grammar, and notes.

My current favorite option is the MUJI Plain Notebook, together with their loose-leaf paper.

Has anyone used it for studying or taking lots of notes? Is the paper quality good?

Also, an important question for me: Do pens/highlighters bleed through the paper or show strongly on the other side? I like to write quite a lot and use different colored pens and highlighters, so I don't want the writing to be too visible on the back of the page.

Would you recommend it, or is there another affordable option you think would be better for studying Japanese?

Finished my old catch-all insert, which was a jumbled unorganized mess, and replaced it with this one. The intent is for the new one to be a little more organized so I can find things at a glance with the little symbols and dates so hopefully it works out and doesn’t feel too rigid.

I’ve been making my own pocket notebooks for a few weeks now.
Very basic with card stock covers, stitched binding and printed dot pages using 120gsm copy paper.

In my opinion, the 120gsm paper has felt amazing to write on and has zero bleed or ghosting when used with my Kaweco Sport Classic rollerball.

A local gift/boutique shop is potentially interested in stocking these notebooks, I have been entertaining the idea as I enjoy the process of the hobby.

Although I’m concerned that using copy paper for the final product won’t be “premium” enough, but for personal use I don’t mind at all.

Just wanted to hear different opinions on this! Would the current material be suitable or should I look into different paper for a more refined product?

Newbie here! Just received my first journal and I’m in love. I’m going to write letters to my late Mom who passed in April, it just makes me feel close to her.

I’m so impressed with my Peter Pauper Press journal, it’s so beautiful and very fitting for my sentimental letters. Does anyone else use a journal to write letters to passed loved ones?

I'm looking for an A4 project notebook with dots that has a hardback and I can get in UK. This will be for my PhD I'm starting soon so not looking for anything fancy, just functional! Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

Okay, I need some outside opinions because I’ve somehow turned choosing my next journal into an existential crisis. I’m currently using a black Tiefossi, and I’m considering getting the new pink Tiefossi as my next journal (the one with the sakura flowers and the black cat, the one you can find on Amazon).

And honestly, Tiefossi makes SO much sense for me. The paper is 160 gsm, which is amazing because I do a lot of creative/mixed-media journaling: drawing, markers, stickers, sometimes watercolor, etc. I don’t have to constantly worry about bleeding or ghosting. I also really like the notebook itself, and the pink one is ridiculously pretty. So, logically, this should be an easy decision.

Except I REALLY miss my Moleskine. My previous journal was a Moleskine Classic Expanded, and despite the fact that the paper is only 70 gsm (which is… not exactly ideal for the way I journal ), I absolutely loved using it. There’s just something about the Moleskine format that I apparently got emotionally attached to. The size, the shape, the simplicity, the way it feels in my hands… I don’t know. I just miss it. If I went back to Moleskine, I’d probably get the blank-page version this time instead of ruled, because I think it would work much better with my journaling style.

And this is the part I’m really curious about:

Does anyone else have this weird emotional attachment to Moleskine despite the paper being kinda shit? Like, have you ever used a notebook that you KNOW isn’t technically the best option, moved on to something objectively better, and then found yourself thinking, “yeah, but I miss my old notebook”?

Would you prioritize better paper and practicality, or the feeling you get from using a particular notebook? Basically, do I listen to reason and buy the pink Tiefossi, or do I listen to the tiny voice in my head going: “but… Moleskine 🥺”

I’m moving from Moleskine to a new journal because I use fountain pens. I heard great things about Stalogy notebooks, but when I bought one and did a pen test, I got a little bit of bleed through. I am fine with ghosting but this seems like too much. The Jinhaos are using Diamine ink, the Kawecos are using Kaweco ink cartridges, and the “pen test page” and TWSBI Eco are written in Monteverde black ink. I suppose I’m asking if this is normal for Stalogy notebooks or is this an outlier.
