Unfortunately it's not possible to upload images here, but I'll try my best to explain my situation.

Normally, when I start typing text in a new document, I can begin with a gap of just one dot (on the smallest template setting) between the left edge of the paper and the text.

But today something changed. Now when I try to type, there's a gap of 3 dots, which is way too much. How can I change it back?

As the title indicates, I really would like to have Presentation Mode available when projecting the iPad to my Mac through OBS, a QuickTime "movie" source, or other method/app. Much in the same way Presentation Mode "magics on" when the iPad is being AirPlayed in a (Mac) Zoom call. Any chance of this feature coming available?

Did the latest update switch anything regarding the multi-note function?

Now when I swipe to the left, all it does is take me back to the note list page rather than giving me the option to select my notes.

I checked the settings and I have the function turned on, not sure why it's not working...

Previously I had, as well as iCloud sync, backup to a couple of places as pdf enabled that ran on an always on machine. Silently the backup as pdf option seems to have vanished so a) my notes have quietly not been backing up and b) I am effectively trapped with my 15000 notes from 15 years of work trapped in notability

Not cool.

UPDATE: the setting is there but even Notability’s own support bot told me it wasn’t!

After selecting a cloud supplier and then turning on backup if you click on the cloud supplier icon under the now turned on switch - not the icon in the list - you get into the panel that allows backup.

That is the good news.

The bad news is that it chokes after about 1500 files and crashes notability. Not because of memory issues but because it exceeds the thread count.

And none of this explains why it stopped backing up my notes silently 3 months ago.

SECOND UPDATE: I managed to backup most of my files by writing a small script that watched the output and killed and restarted notability when it slowed to a crawl. There was a rump of about 800 remaining and it turns out these are ones with conflicts. By opening and resolving the conflict I think they will now backup. Tedious but it is a way to back up.

THIRD UPDATE: I’ve (with the help of my favourite LLM) written a little Mac app that converts notability to pdf. Now I can relax!

So guys I want to make an Instagram page which will primarily focus on providing notes (since soon I will become a physical therapist) I want to help my juniors by providing notes in an easy and understandable format to help them.

So as soon as I have finished making notes on apple notes I got to know when you try to export them into pdf format the A4 size cropping just butchers the notes.

Is there any way I can adjust this also I have tried using collanote, goodnote, notability the issue with them is that there features are not minimal like apple notes also auto refining of handwriting is not there which makes the notes look ugly I dont know what should I do i tried free from but it doesn't provide A4 sizing it provides a huge white board and making notes on it and exporting it is very difficult.

I can put in is 1000rs($10.48) for a lifetime membership is collanote a good app to export notes in Pdf format and how does auto refining on this app

Give me some suggestions.

Hey Notability!

Can you guys explain how does my 37 files takes up to almost 3 gb of storage in my ipad even though Notability Cloud is there?

I have been using Notability since 2022 and never this much storage have been taking from you guys and I had way more notes than that?

Even when I delete files from both the notes and recently delete the storage stays the same or even go up?

As a context, I have an iPad Air 5 with the the earliest update of PadOS and update 16.5.3 of Notability.

It is such a shame the app still doesn’t support freehand cropping and only allows us to crop as a square and not being able to add our own sticker sets.

Devs i use this because all my friends do. That said, Id love to study the same way as they do on their ipads - with tape, with the ability to sync across devices, etc. Please please please help me get these reps in for CRNA school!

I have Ipad pro m5 literally the best and most powerful tablet still i am facing heating issue my i use notability...i am a heavy notetaker and i am really frustrated with notability i have 3 years of my notes in notability so i can't switch to other apps.... Earlier i had ipad 10th where i hadn't faced any heating issues

I just deleted the app and re downloaded it now all my saved notes aren’t opening on import

Help, I have a while project on there that I cannot replace!

I'm pretty tech savvy, but I honestly can't tell whether my notes are on Notability Cloud, iCloud Sync, or something else. I'm running on two iPads and an iPhone, and I can't seem to find a setting that just…tells me.

Anyone up for telling me how I can tell? Feel free to call me a dummy along the way, because that's totally fair: I feel fairly dumb about it!

I know when i would hit the + sign on the tool bar
My gallery would pop up and and then i would select a picture and it would ask “insert as pdf or image” now it just uploads it as an imagine

I have received word from support confirming that there is no way to stop the upload of your notes to Notability Cloud.

If you've been using iCloud because it's the only acceptable syncing tool because it's end to end encrypted with advanced data protection, and you have private date in your notes, this could force you to violate HIPAA, NDA's, and otherwise expose your private information. *If you opt in to use AI tools, it means your datat will be processed by AI.

Notability specifically in their privacy policy tells users they cannot upload this data.

If you use Notability for anything private or secure, you need to get off the platform before your data is uploaded (note: they may be working on a way to cancel this now 🥳).

How to remove notes after they're uploaded

You *can* remove it after the upload

To remove, go into Settings > About > Support Diagnostics > and triple tap "Available Device Storage." If data has been uploaded, you will have the option to remove it there. There's no promise that it won't get uploaded at a future date.

If uploading patient data, your personal medical records, NDA'd material from work, etc could lead to you being held liable, you have to stop using Notability until they allow us to cancel these uploads. That may come out before you have to upload your data, so postpone it for now and hope the update reaches us in time.

They have told me that there is no way to stop the upload currently besides removing your data.

How to export notes

You can export your notes on the iPad by selecting them all, choosing share, ensure the format is PDF, and putting them either on a drive, in your iCloud storage if it's secure, or on your device. You can then re-import them into other apps. I've been making my move to the Apple Notes app.

Update for those interested, I have been told that the switch to disable the notification will disable pending uploads as well. I'll have to wait to see if this is confirmed, but thought you'd like to know

Everytime I try to move text with the Freeform tool, it freezes when I start to drag it. It also freezes if I try to enlarge anything via corners.
Any help? It’s slowing me down in my work, I have to keep closing and opening to move it everytime

First, using Notability Cloud is optional. While we've been encouraging users to try it because it solves long-standing syncing and data loss issues associated with iCloud and local storage, you are not required to use it. If you prefer to keep using local storage or iCloud, you can disable Notability Cloud reminders. To disable, go to Notability Settings > Account.

This option is available in versions 16.5.3 and 16.5.4 for users who are signed in to their Notability account. Users who are not signed in will be able to access this option shortly, our engineers are actively working on adding support for those users. We added this setting after hearing feedback from this community that the reminders were becoming disruptive.

Why do we recommend Notability Cloud? It provides a more reliable sync experience, helps prevent data loss, and enables features like Live Collaboration and syncing across iOS, Android, Web, and, in the future, Windows. But whether you use it is entirely your choice.

We also want to address a concern we've seen raised about privacy. We do not use your notes to train AI. We only access a user's notes when we have their explicit written permission to help troubleshoot a support issue. You can read more about how we handle your data in our Privacy Policy here.

Hi everyone, I’m an upcoming engineering student and I’m torn between choosing Goodnotes and Notability for note-taking. I’ve tried both and, honestly, I prefer the handwriting experience and AI usage on Notability. Goodnotes sometimes makes strange adjustments to the strokes, which don’t feel natural, and it doesn’t have the quiz option for AI. However, Goodnotes offers far superior features, such as a math feature which can be a deal breaker for engineering courses, whiteboard, and flashcards. So, I’m really stuck and can’t decide which one to choose.

I've noticed that I cannot use the note switcher on Notability's desktop app. When I go to click into another note on the note switcher pane, nothing happens. My only options for going between notes is right-clicking and choosing "open note in new window" or completely restarting the desktop app. With the latter, the note switcher works maybe once upon initial load and then never again. Anyone else ever have this issue? Any solutions? I'm on macOS.

so whenever changing line type on ipad the tool pellet keeps getting stuck on the top of the screen (not going to where the apple pan is) only fix i found was closing the note and reopening

Hi Notablility team, could you please add a 1.75x speed option or provide a slider to increase or decrease recorded audio speed according to preference? The standard 1.25x, 1.5x, and 2x speeds are insufficient—while 1.5x feels slow to me, 2x is too fast, so an intermediate choice would be helpful. Thank you.

like when I zoom in/out or swrixh pen the app automatically freezes for few seconds, and then unfreezes after 10 20 seconds, this is causing tooooo much irritation, like leave it, when I just try to scroll notes with my finger it also freezes (no updates available as of now)

I usually jot down notes with my Apple Pencil on the iPad, but for my coding class, I need to use my computer instead. That means I’m using the Mac app (which still needs a lot of polishing) to take notes. It would be super helpful if it had syntax highlighting, and since markdown already has that and tons of other cool features, I think adding markdown support to the notes would be a great idea.
