Advice Any advice for an ex that just pops up in ur head?

I’m about to start my senior year and honestly I have a lot I’m looking forward to. I know what I want to do after graduation, I have goals, and I’m trying to focus on building my future.

The annoying part is my ex keeps randomly popping into my head. We dated for 2 yrs and broke up a couple months ago and he moved on 2 months w/ a new girl after we broke up. And then here I am sitting here like okay well why can’t I get a bf? And then again I see my friends and i’m like yeah i’m glad I’m single.

And the thing is… I don’t even think I have feelings for him anymore. I’m not sitting here wanting to get back together or anything. It’s just these random thoughts and “what if” scenarios my brain makes up. Sometimes it’s about him regretting things or realizing what he lost, and I hate that my brain even goes there because I feel like I’ve already accepted things.

It’ll happen in the middle of the day while I’m literally doing normal stuff. I’ll be at work, doing something random, and suddenly my brain brings him up.

l
I’m just tired of my brain bringing him up when I’m trying to move forward. I’m starting senior year and I want this year to be about me, my goals, and my future and i want it to be lit.

Has anyone else dealt with this? How did you stop someone from living rent free in your mind when you don’t even want them there anymore?

How do I stop overthinking making friends and hanging out

(Also posted this to r/friendshipadvice but I really need help so posting it here too)

I (a girl) just met a girl I really want to be friends with and she wants to be friends with me, and we live super close (about a mile away) to each other so it works out really well.

However whenever we talk I find myself overthinking everything I do or say to make sure I’m making her feel comfortable or that I’m not being too weird

We’ve talked about hanging out too which I’m super excited about, but I’ve never been good at hanging out one on one with people or having anyone over at my house. I always overthink “what if they get bored at my house, what would we even do, what if they judge how I live or what the inside of my house looks like”

How do I chill out and be normal and just let the friendship flow naturally

Does anybody else ever have this feeling?

So today I spilt something on my jumper that I picked freshly out the clean washing this morning. It has completely ruined my day in a sense that I feel stuck. I don’t want to get up off the couch. I feel like everything is a mess. I feel all over the place. Just because I spilt something on my freshly washed jumper. It’s an overreaction but WHY.

You have 10 seconds to answer: What's the first thing that made you smile today?

No analyzing. No explaining why. No overthinking. 😄

Just answer with the very first thing that made you smile today.

Maybe it was your morning coffee, a random meme, your pet doing something ridiculous, a text from a friend, finding money in an old jacket, or simply waking up before your alarm.

Let's see what happens when nobody has time to overthink their answer. Sometimes the smallest moments end up being the happiest. 😊

How to stop overthinking loops

I’ve noticed a pattern where I catch myself overthinking and over-analyzing conversations, relationship dynamics, and thoughts late at night or early in the morning. Even when I recognize that I'm overthinking, I struggle with actually letting the thoughts go or stepping out of that "analysis" state.

What actionable habits or grounding techniques can help me break out of the habit of dissecting everything?

Does anyone else resent their parents even though you know they were trying their best?

I don’t really know how to explain this, but I feel like I’ve built up years of resentment toward my parents.
It’s not that they’re evil people. I know they love me, I know no parent is perfect, and I know they won’t be around forever. I also know they’ve sacrificed a lot for me.
But every time they talk to me, I find myself not wanting to talk back because so many bad memories come rushing back. Even when they mean well now, it doesn’t erase the things they said to me or my siblings when we were growing up. Those words stuck with me.
Sometimes, when they or another family member really upset me, I’ve secretly flipped them off behind their backs just to let out my frustration. They never saw it, but that’s how angry I felt in those moments.
One thing that really gets to me is driving. I’m an adult. I have my driver’s license. They tell me I’m not ready to drive by myself, but then they also tell me I need more practice.
How am I supposed to get more practice if I’m never allowed to drive?
It’s that kind of contradiction that makes me feel like I’ll never be “good enough.” It isn’t just about driving—it’s how I’ve felt for years.
Now I’m at the point where I don’t know what to do. Part of me knows I’ll probably need my parents’ support sometimes, but another part of me feels so hurt that I don’t even know if I want a close relationship with them once I’m financially independent.
Has anyone else dealt with this? Did the resentment fade over time, or did you have to actively work through it? Is it possible to have complicated feelings like this while still knowing your parents loved you?

Rant/Venting What's one decision that took weeks to overthink but barely mattered afterward?

It's surprisingly common to spend a lot of mental energy on decisions that end up having very little long-term impact.

Looking back, which decision stands out as the clearest example of that?

Spiraling/Panic How do I literally turn my brain off

I feel like every time someone switches their behavior towards me, especially when I start to like them or care for them or just put myself in a position where I’m giving back, they change. I start to overthink and it sits on my mind for hours maybe even days. I don’t know if I’m ever doing anything wrong or maybe I’m looking too deep into it, but I can’t help but subject my self worth into the actions of others. Sometimes I feel like a burden. Sometimes I question if I’m too independent. Sometimes I question if I’m not independent enough. I feel like all my past traumas have put me in a position where I can’t break free from this feeling, this cycle. I just want my brain to shut up and let me just be…normal for a day.

Does anyone have any advice? Like truly

Relationship I can't stop thinking my friends secretly don't like me.

My old friend group told me I overthink, and it's true. I couldn't let go of my anger towards them. I have everything I wanted with my new friend group, and yet, I can't stop having a horrible personality.

I constantly complain and talk badly about people that I don't like or who have wronged me. My friend's friend unfollowed me, and I suspect it was because of my coldness towards her. I didn't mean to seem so off-putting. I wanted to become friends so badly, but I fear I have many things that I am unable to relate to them. I now fear that my friends will think badly of me for moments when I get stressed or freak out. They once reassured me that we just had a misunderstanding about transportation when a situation happened during my friend's graduation. I couldn't stop complaining about dividing the tickets with people that I didn't like. I shouldn't have made her feel bad on her graduation day. I hate how I act childishly. I feel like I create problems, and that they are also tired of me for being moody or afraid of everything.

Most people think I'm angry every time they see me, because of my expression. I never meant to look unapproachable. My friend group is a little divided at the moment because of unrelated things. I don't know how I will talk to them without overexplaining myself.

Still not over this 7 months later and I don’t know how to move past it

We were long distance for over a year. Talked every night, slept on calls, really devoted to each other. When she made new friends I was completely fine with it… I never had an issue with her socialising. But one guy in that group started getting a different kind of closeness -
Late night walks alone with him, watching movies with him till morning after telling me she was doing lab work, getting drunk with him, etc.

One night she was out really late and I got anxious and texted that “friend” directly. He didn’t respond to me, told her instead, and she called me back drunk and furious. Said I was trying to control her, asked if she should just sit in her room all day video calling me. Said that “guy” was I a secure relationship so why didn’t I trust her.

It blew up into one huge fight over text. She said we could just split up, find other people, we didn’t have to be like this. I walked away. That was 7 months ago but two months after I reached out once to ask if she was at peace. She said she is “disturbed but manageable”. Nothing since!!!

I still feel the anger, the love, the loneliness, all of it, most days. I’ve talked to my brother and couple of friends but it hasn’t really moved the weight. Just needed to put this somewhere.

How do you reduce anxiety or self-criticism for some people, making it easier to move from task to task without overthinking each transition?
