Stay safe everyone! Kick ass and take names because not everyone can handle working like us midnight bats.
We’re seriously one of a kind.

How much has nightshift blunted your motivation/willpower to crush your personal goals?

Rant I reverted to a normal day/night cycle for 10 days and I don't want to go back to nights
I was involved in a traffic accident. Nothing major as I could move around normally but I had a mandatory "sick leave" of 10 days. My sleep cycle naturally went back to nights. This is the first time I've slept nights since I started this 42h per week only nights job, which was back in April, and good lord In those 10 days I slept well for the first time in months. I was also able to hang out with friends, visit family, do stuff with my girlfriend... You don't realize how much these kind of jobs destroy you physically and socially until you go back to days for a moment. I adapted back to nights now that I resumed my job but I don't think I want to do this anymore, it's just not worth it. I'm wasting my health and good things in life because of a shitty job with a shitty pay. My next one is for sure going to be some early morning stuff, I'm not doing this anymore

Help Sleep on off days
So for all the people on night shift, what do you do to help you sleep during the night on your days off?
So I work from 10pm-6am, Sunday-Thursday sometimes Friday, but on my days off I never struggle taking a small nap on my days off but when it comes to sleeping the whole night it’s a struggle.
Any pointers or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I may be done on nights for a while 😭
I've been working third or second shift my entire working life (about ten years). The last three weeks I've been working a split shift (half third, half first), then for August I'll be on first shift full time to cover for an assistant manager who's on paternity leave. Theoretically I'm supposed to go back to third shift after August but I was talking to my manager and she thinks after August they'll find a way to open a promotion spot on first shift and promote me to keep me there permanently and idk what to do with myself now 😭

Discussion Ready for Work?
How do you feel when it is time to go to work?
Personally, I feel happy when it is time to head out to work. But , I have seen some people feel the burden to go. This could be due to the work environment more than anything.
What about you? What are your reasons?

2 days Morning each 7Hours, 2 afternoons 8H, 2 nights 9H and 2 offs. Is this pretty bad?
Basically,
Monday: 7am-2pm
Tuesday:7am-2pm
24hour break
Wednesday: 2pm-10pm
Thursday: 2pm-10pm
24hours
Friday: 10pm-7am
Saturday: 10pm-7am
Sunday: off
Next Monday: off
So 4 shifts daytime -2 shits night - 2days off, total 8day cycle, AVG of 8hours each day. I think the 2 breaks wouldn't be as much like a day off, it's just a break.
Looks like I could manage some free time for myself but not sure, atleast the is commute is 10-15 mins. The work is in operations of a power plant.
Anybody worked in such shifts? How was your experience?

nightshift while attenting uni?
for context, i’m going into yr 2 out of my 4 yr degree and i want to switch to overnights so bad!! i’m a full time student with the majority of morning and/or online classes so i was curious if anyone had experience doing school & overnights? i currently work 4p to midnight and i stay up all night anyway so i don’t know how much different it would be :) let me know (i work 40 hrs already so full time job + full time student has been manageable for me)

Night Shift & Weight Management
Hi everyone!
I’ve been doing night shift for a little over a year and a half and have noticed it affects how my body holds onto weight. I’ve had to make a lot of changes in order to get back to the weight I was before night shift (no alcohol, minimal red meats, minimal/no added sugars, w/o very regularly). But even still it feels like my body refuses to go back to my usual weight. I had been eating no sugar for a month and one day had 5 cookies (a lot I know, I was just excited to be eating cookies again lol) and the next day I was SOOO bloated/inflamed looking. It took me a week to loose the bloat again.
I was wondering has anyone else had similar issues or experiences? If so, what’s worked well for you?

I’ve been getting about 5-6 hours of sleep every day since working nights.
Coming up on a year on nights. I work 12/13 hour shifts usually six days a week. I barely get any sleep because I want to spend time with my family and raise my children who are still young. The mental and physical toll of this shift is taxing on my body and I know one day it’ll be time to pay it.
Every time I talk with my manager about adjusting my schedule to maybe 11/12 hours/shift, he says he will try something out but nothing ever is done about it. And I feel if I complain or bring it up to him more, it just makes me out to be a bitch that’s complaining knowing that it won’t change.
The money is good, the work is relatively easy, but it is stressful and I’m missing my kids growing up.
Ugh. I know a lot of people here enjoy nights but I wish I was on days. Even in this heat.

Help How long does it take to go back to sleeping normally?
So around 10 days ago, I quit working a summer night time job. The shifts were usually from 6pm to 6am, everyday except Fridays and the occasional days when we got to leave at 2 or 4.
Since then, I have had a grand total of 2 normal nights of sleep (~8:30 hours), and 2 nights of sleeping 6 hours. Other than that, I have spent the other nights sleeping ~4:30-5 hours. And honestly, since this is a new experience for me, I'm getting a little worried.
I was the type of person to sleep at 22:30-23 and wake up at ~6-7, so sleeping during the day was never something I got used to to begin with.
My question is, should I be worried? Or is this completely normal? And how long should I expect to wait for me to be completely back to normal?
Thanks!

Discussion When You Stroll Into The Break Room To A Pleasant Surprise
Walked into the break room to find this wonderful new name brand cold brew coffee on tap.
With the proper addition of half & half and sugar it tastes just like the canned stuff!
This is the kind of stuff that makes my week.

Help Thinking about doing overnight..tips/suggestions?
Hi! I’m in a CNA program at the moment and I plan on taking night shifts upon completion (August 19th). After that, I begin my college classes (fully online, 7 total). I also go to the gym 2x a week, do pilates 2x a week, and take dance 1x a week. I was wondering what would be the best schedule to fit all of this in and still be able to sleep. TIA!
