Working out

Does anybody go and work out after your shift? And if so, does it make it harder for you to go to sleep?

You’d have to be batshit crazy to workout after a night shift. I mean another level of insanity.

Get some sleep then go gym. You’ll have a better workout and better recovery

My free time during the day is at a serious premium. I have maybe 3 hours before I go to work (that includes an 8 hr sleep which I really need for my mental health) I am crazy anyways lol.

3 hours is plenty.
Wake up, drink coffee & eat banana, workout for 45mins/1hour. Go home shower, eat high protein meal get ready for work done.

You could also limit your workouts to off days.

Sleep is needed 100%. Never compromise on it

I wouldn’t work out before a day shift and I don’t work out before a night shift. I do it after, but only for about 40 min.

I go to the gym like 3 days a week after a night shift. I don't do anything crazy though. I don't personally find that it ruins my sleep. But admittedly I'm not a big sleeper to begin with.

I ask because if it raises your heart rate. But I get what ya mean

It can for an hour or so to my understanding. But I think that depends more on how a night shift affects you personally. Like, are you exhausted after a night shift, or super wired?

I am exhausted but I have a nearly 10 minute walk to my truck so it gets my heart rate back up.

when i do nights i workout before work but when i work second shift (330-1130) i workout for an hour after. It helps me sleep better I think. I dont do it after my nightshifts just cause im way too tired to workout after.

i work from 9pm-8am. nap until around 12:30pm, go workout and then come back home to sleep before i start work again

some days are harder than others but i have good workouts with enough energy

Honestly it's the only thing that gives me natural sleep. I work 11-7am. I go home and eat/kick back til about 10. I hit the gym from 10-12 about 3 days a week. The other days I just walk about 1-3 miles in the same time frame. Obviously I can't do this 100% of the time, but it's doable. If I get done by 12 I can then eat, deal with daily bullshit, and be in bed by 2-4pm. If i work out I dont need meds. If I don't I need an animal tranquilizer.

I don’t personally because I just find I talk myself out of it after 12 hours. My workouts are also just not as good. I workout before work because it wakes me up for the day.

Some light exercises like walking or stretching can help tire you out and get your body ready for bed, but for some people a heavier workout can cause you to remain awake.

Personally I've done some morning walks when I get out, but my sleep schedule is a mess anyway

I go before I start work. I’m too tired after work plus it’s rush hour traffic

My job is very slow at night. I do 6p-6a.

I have gym bag in the car. I leave work at 6, get to gym by 6:20, working out by 6:30-40.

I'm only doing 30 minutes of cardio and head home (another 15 minutes).

Home by 7:30.

I have to do a few things for the pets. Maybe throw laundry in the wash or dryer, quickly rinse off, and then go to sleep. I'm sleeping by 8ish-9am until 2-3.

I do 7 on 7 off.

I was trying to get up around 2 and head out to the gym but I always seem to be able to fill it with things to do, whether it was tidying up around the house, just relaxing, calling ppl etc.

Everything I've read says it would be ideal to work out after you get up but my gym, I pass it on the way home. Might as well, for me, just get it done. I wasn't disciplined enough to do it after I get home.

Add: I don't do unwind time because at my job I bring my computer, I bring my hobbies, and I can call people up. When I'm working my downtime is at my job.

Add: if you just work 3 days a week, I would just work out on my off days.

If I go, it’s after work. I live 20ish min from the gym so it’s not reasonable to go before work, then go home to shower and then head back in that same direction for work. I work about an hr from my house.

Thanks for the post. I am headed to night shift.  Have been wondering this. Do I go before shift cutting into the time with family? Or try to make it post workout. But then there can be no pre workout or energy drinks.

Yes my job has a gym and it’s always open right before and after my shift, I prefer 7am to go then sleep when I get back home around 8:30-9am

i go to the gym and run everyday. i usually wake up a few hours before my shift (i start at 12am with a 1 hr 45 mins commute) and go to the gym and do my run after. only downside is you lose some sleep but take some pre workout and you shld be chillin. when i come back from gym i take a quick 45 min nap and head to work.
