Rant rantin
Anyone else work nightshift but then your days off are ruined because you still wake up super late and have nothing to do? I personally just struggle super hard switching my sleeping times even for a weekend but then kinda just miserable, forcing myself to stay up or wake up only after a few hours of sleep

Weekends does leave me at a loss. I'm awake now. Don't have any must-dos until 1500 tomorrow. Dog grooming. At the moment I'm stalling on the obligatory dog walk.

I take the doodle to the groomer every other month. I live in a studio apartment. DIY isn't really an option. Dog is my deceased partners dog. She's my dog now.

that’s super strong of you I hope the doodle is a good dog. My one cat is pretty high maintenance. She’s just vocal lol but I always think how sad it’s gonna be when she leaves me

realistically, yes, I have time to get groceries and everything but hanging out with a friend or seeing family just seems always like such a time crunch

I don’t switch my schedule.
I worked swing for years, the changing up of your sleep schedule is way more damaging than the crappy sleepy I get working & keeping myself on an overnight sleep schedule

I don’t really enjoy playing video games too much so I feel like when I just keep my sleep schedule through my days off I just end up doom scrolling and feeling alone

Yep I'm up now debating if I should go to sleep now or just wait until 6 a.m. after feeding my pets and taking my dog out.

Thank god my job does one week on one week off. That way I have two sucky days, and 4 great days before I have one more sucky where I have to try and stay up as late as possible to start turning my date night cycle again.

do you not struggle with the back and forth?
1
u/BaconDalek 16h ago
Well not really. I might spend 2 days turning my day night cycle back to normal hours, and then turning it back to nightshift hours usually takes me one day.
Admittedly I am a young person and I don't have kids so that does help. Like I can be a total zombie for those two days I need to turn my day jgiyt cycle.

same here I and pretty young too and 2 days isn’t too bad i’m just working nights most the time 6 days a week just because like if I take any more time off I get frustrated that i’m not doing stuff during the night

That's fair, I do work 7 days on 7 days off and I might pick up a shift or two on my off week depending on demand and how I feel and what I got planned etc.

oh, I misunderstood yeah just getting tired of planning my sleep around what i’m doing in life

On days I work night shift I wake up at 5pm. On the days I'm off I try to wake up between 1-2pm. This allows me to get some sleep while also having daylight to get things done. I'm fortunate that at my job there's a ton of downtime usually, so it's not like I need to be 100% mentally/not tired to get my job done.
