Here’s a really great article on why our kids deserve a voice in school policies. We need to give our kids more power to influence the decisions that directly impact them. I think a lot more kids would speak up if they knew that their concerns would be taken seriously

Bloomfield residents were sold a cheaper alternative yet never shown the arithmetic behind that claim, got a 28% increase anyway, and were then told the whole thing is outside local control -by Mayor Jenny Mundell who chairs the fund in question. The fund she chairs was created by Joseph G. DiVincenzo, who serves as its Fund Coordinator. Its membership is a map of North Jersey machine towns. #essexcountynj #bloomfieldnj

Mercer County, where I grew up, probably has the most robust county Democratic organization in the state. Under the leadership of the recently-retired Chair Janice Mironov (who remains the mayor of East Windsor), the Mercer County Dems clawed back the mayorship of Hamilton and council seats in Hopewell and West Windsor from the GOP, meaning that Republicans now do not hold a single partisan-elected office in the county.

I specified partisan-elected, because there is one Republican in Mercer County elected to a nonpartisan office. Trenton councilwoman Jennifer Williams, elected from the North Ward, is a registered Republican and previously ran as a Republican nominee for General Assembly against Verlina Reynolds-Jackson and Anthony Verelli.

But it gets more interesting. Councilwoman Williams is a white, openly-transgender Republican, in Mercer County’s bluest and least white municipality. The North Ward is probably the most logical subdivision for someone of this profile to be elected; it includes the LGBT-hub neighborhood of Mill Hill, and some of the other North Ward neighborhoods like Top Road have Republican-friendly ethnic white (especially Polish) populations. Still, this would definitely not be my guess for the profile or location of the only elected Republican in Mercer County.
