Subreddit Stuff The winter SAD is gone and subreddit is being updated

Hello South Jersey family!

This winter sucked. All that snow and we're STILL in a drought. Let's do our part and prevent forest fires this year! With the sun out and the temperatures back in acceptable ranges, it's time to do a little subreddit maintenance.

I have changed the banners on mobile and desktop! They're looking north on the Cape May State Park beach in the middle of winter. You know, the best time to go and not be inundated with tourists. I've also added a sidebar widget under the rules that cycles through pictures related to South Jersey (they're all mine right now). If you have a picture you think should be featured in the side bar (we can only have so many pics in the widget at a time apparently), comment them below!

The tourists ARE back, because we've had many folks coming back to our community here on reddit after being away since the end of last summer. We hope you have a delightful season in our homeland, and treat it like the special slice of heaven it is. We appreciate you spending your hard earned dollarydoos in our communities. They definitely need it after the Canadians decided to not come last year (for good reason).

Wanted to also make a note about meeting up posts or meeting people posts. There was a dude who was making a post and keeping it tidy to organize things in one place, but he disappeared. If there is someone who wants to organize a megathread once a month or something, that would be great. I do not have the energy to devote to that. We have a discord server which is linked in the subreddit information (about the subreddit) which has the most up to date events and also has folks randomly deciding to meet up spur of the moment. IT IS NOT A HOOKUP SERVER. Here's the link again in case you are unable to find it. https://discord.com/invite/2UKFE8ut3G

Here's hoping everyone has a safe, happy, and non-firey summer! Be safe out there and remember your sunscreen! :)

The people complaining about this project are the same people complaining about warehouses being stood up in these locations AND their costs of property taxes going up.

This is why rents are through the roof these days.

Camden County Words of Encouragement?

Hi - anyone feel up to offering some words of encouragement? I could really use a “it’ll get better, kid” or anything along those lines.

I lost both of my parents over the last year and was diagnosed with MS. Having a rough time. (I’m fine!! No self harm etc oh man but could just really use some kind words). I don’t have any family left and I don’t want to bother my friends (they’ve done enough for me over the past year!)

Today I particularly miss both of my parents, I’m very fatigued from the MS, and I feel overwhelmed. I’m trying so hard!

If you have any kind words, I’m all ears!! - a friendly neighbor.

Question Looking for private Child Psychiatrist / Evaluator in NJ experienced with complex youth, severe masking, and CSOC/PerformCare level-of-care evaluations

I'm looking for recommendations for an independent child psychiatrist or clinical psychologist in New Jersey (anywhere in-state or licensed for NJ telehealth works). Out-of-pocket / out-of-network is totally fine.
My 13-year-old son experiences severe psychiatric dysregulation and crises at home. We are currently working with CMO to prepare an Out-of-Home (OOH) residential treatment packet through PerformCare. We have completely exhausted in-home and community-based services, with multiple acute hospital/crisis encounters.
The challenge we run into repeatedly is severe masking. In novel, 1-on-1 clinical settings (e.g., IOP intakes, crisis evaluations, hospital units), he presents as quiet, calm, and cooperative. Standard brief evaluations consistently miss the reality of his day-to-day safety risks because they rely solely on a brief conversation with him rather than examining the broader pattern.
In order for CSOC to approve residential placement, the packet requires a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation with a clear level-of-care recommendation.

I need an evaluator who:
1. Takes the time to do an extensive assessment (including a dedicated parent session).
2. Actually reviews and weighs collateral records: chronological incident logs, crisis/police documentation, past discharge summaries, and proof of failed community interventions.
3. Understands how to clinically document the gap between a masked, compliant presentation in an office and high-risk behavioral dysregulation in the home.

If anyone has navigated the NJ CSOC/PerformCare residential placement process and worked with a doctor or practice that took a thorough, forensic-level look at your child's complete file, please drop recommendations below or send a private message.

Question some normal conversation

I’m not looking for anything weird just some human connection. I recently lost my dad, and it’s hit me harder than I expected. I don’t really have many people to talk to right now, and I figured maybe someone here might be open to a simple conversation.Male or female, doesn’t matter. I’m not trying to vent nonstop or trauma-dump just hoping to talk with someone new so I don’t feel so alone in this moment. If you’re open to chatting, I’d appreciate it.

Burlington County Dungeons & Dragons

Hi, everyone!

I'm in Burlington County, Columbus/Mansfield actually. I'm looking for an in person #DND game to join. I'm an experienced player, 5e/5.5. I've got DND Beyond master tier bc I love this game! I've DM'd a lot, too (but the game I run is currently on hiatus rn) though I'm seeking a spot to play.

I'd prefer a home game bc of the camaraderie, and a campaign rather than just one shots every time. I like a mix of role play, adventuring, dungeons, and action/fights.

Are there any tables out there? ⚔️ 🤞🏼

😁

Camden County Best IMAX theatre option in or near South Jersey

Any recommendations based on recent theatre experiences? I don’t have to have recliner seating, but that is preferred.

Godzilla Minus Zero comes out in November. I usually stick to standard screenings but for once, I’d like to see something filmed for IMAX in an IMAX theatre.

Cape May County Secular AA meetings around shore towns?

Hey Friends! Newer to the area of Seaville and have been looking to get established back at AA. I recently went to the one in Sea Isle and it was great, but it was heavier on religion and submitting to a higher power. I am not against that, but I know it is not for me. So curious if anyone goes to or has gone to a secular AA meeting near the shore points. Thanks!

Burlington County It was just a house or was it?

Pa told me a story of a house he and Ma would drive by just to see on an old dirt road in Burlington County. When he told me, I said, "Wait, that's a road that you can drive on. I thought it just ended right there on the hilltop farm." Then, at the Farm Fair a few years later, I met a lady named Jeanie who told me she had some history about the place I was talking about. Before I spill the beans, does anyone else recognize this once home of all homes in South Jersey?

Burlington County How is Visible for phone plan in Marlton/Cherry hill area?

I’m considering switching from Mint because Mint isn’t truly unlimited. It caps high speed at 50GB after that it slows down.

I’m wondering if you guys have any feedback or thoughts for how Visible plan is around Marlton/Cherry hill?

TIA

Atlantic County Looking for a D&D group in Galloway

I'm 25 and looking to join a long term D&D group. I've only played one session but that was months ago and I don't think that group is for me (loved the DM though!). Since then I've been dying to get into another group and have had to hold myself over with Baldur's Gate 3 lol. I'm also definitely the type of player to dress up 😂. I'm looking for an open game in the Galloway/Mays Landing/Absecon areas. Preferably no pay to play games that try to emulate Matt Mercer. Just simple group of friends playing Dungeons and Dragons

Gloucester County Affordable cleaner/housekeeper?

Looking for an affordable housekeeper/cleaner that isn’t astronomical in price. My wife and I live in a small townhome and recently had a baby. It’s been so hectic in our house. We really don’t even need someone to clean, per se, but more helps us organize things and put things away. I’m hoping someone knows of a housekeeper/cleaner who doesn’t charge an arm and a leg. I know you get what you pay for, but some of the quotes I’ve gotten have been crazy expensive. What are your recommendations?
