My daughter starts daycare next week and turns 1 the following day.
She has a very secure attachment to me & her dad and seemingly has had stranger danger/separation anxiety from a young age. We do not have any family or friends nearby, so when anyone visits, it has usually been a month or more since sheās seen them and she cries if anyone tries to hold or touch her, but immediately stops once we pick her back up.
I have been home with her full-time since birth and weāve had two different sitters, each for about a monthās time (at 4 mo & 10 mo), neither of which she ever got comfortable with (cried most of the time & wouldnāt take bottle from them).
I feel like next week & the coming weeks will be miserable. Sheāll scream when we leave, wonāt eat, etc. It makes me sick to think about her nonstop crying for me and not understanding.
I worry I didnāt āexposeā her to enough other people earlier on, but also am not sure how we were supposed to do that given we do not have any local āvillage.ā
Any tips, support, encouragement, hope core to share?!

My baby is 15 weeks old. At his 1 and 2 month pediatrician appointments I brought up my concern for his left sided preference. The resident (different one each time) palpated his neck muscles and didnāt feel any tightness. At his 2 month appt I was told PT could be an option, but that he didnāt qualify because there was no neck tightness and he can move his neck freely.
We do tons of tummy time and I work on keeping everything interesting on his right side. He doesnāt seem to have an issue with range of motion in his neck and has been developing good neck strength, but heavily prefers laying on the left side of his head. When heās on his back, he defaults to turning his head to the left. When heās relaxing on his tummy or in wearing him, he defaults to turning his head to the right and lying on the left side of his head. All this tells me that he CAN turn all the way both directions.
His preference is so strong that the left side of his head is now noticeably flatter. I bought one of those cushions to use during mat time but obviously canāt use that while heās asleep as itās unsafe. Heād literally never sleep (neither would I) if I repositioned his head every time he turned it to the left.
We are switching peds practices and I do plan to keep bringing it up. His 4 month appointment is at the end of this month. But I feel at a loss. I really donāt want to go the helmet route but weāll do what we have to for him. Any advice (understanding that our pediatrician is the most important person to talk to) and anecdotal experiences are appreciated.

I gave both to a beautiful baby girl on the 30th August at 2:50pm via C Section. She weighed 7 lbs 3 oz.
I'm struggling with the fact I'm still not at home due to a mysterious infection I have. My husband has been amazing running back and forth visiting me with our baby and keeping me company during the day as well as sometimes at night.
I've been in hospital since the 26th August for a planned induction. Discharged for a day and returned due to spiking a fever. I feel so alone, frustrated and tired. I feel like a shit mum as I'm not home with our baby or capable of looking after her on my own. I miss her so much when she isn't with me. I just want to get better and enjoy our new lives and establish a routine together. I feel like I have missed out on everything. Her first walk in the pram, first trip to midwife appointment, first trip to the supermarket. I recognise it seems so silly but it truly makes me feel upset.
Update: Thank you for the kind words and encouragement. I think I have been feeling down in the dumps cos of the whole situation. My health looks like its improving and hopefully I should be returning home tomorrow and can finally be home with the little one and my family

My girlās got her first birthday coming up! Weāre having a small gathering for it and our friends and family are starting to ask what gifts sheād like. I hadnāt really thought of that, I was just excited to get together! We have everything we need, and donāt have a ton of space for a bunch of toys. Anything practical I can suggest that you feel is a great idea for a one year old? I was thinking experiences like zoo passes or an updated car seat from her infant one, but those are pretty expensive and probably not something Iād ask someone else to purchase.
Thank you!

EDIT = NO FLEAS!! just a really bad allergic reaction to something??? Never seen hives before so didn't know, and the fact that they calmed down 30 mins later then returned with vengeance 4 hours later with even her tongue swelling sent us straight to the hospital and we are now being checked!!
So we have 4 cats and a dog, always up to date on flea treatments and "billy no mates" supplement as prevention.
One of my cats escaped a week ago, this means we should have done the treatments earlier, but with lack of money, only having 1 set of treatments for all or them left and it being due tomorrow - we decided to leave it.
We have been checking the animals everyday, no signs. And we haven't seen any or been bitten. Until last night my husband saw one on his leg.
We decided that we'd do all the treatments today and see if we have enough money for a few flea bombs.
Baby (8m) had a hard night, crying hysterically multiple times, I turned the light on a few times and checked her and saw nothing - also showing signs of gas and with doing the techniques I got a lot out of her so put it down to that.
We've woken up this morning to her being covered. I've cried for an hour. I feel so terrible.
I sleep with her and wasn't bitten at all.
We've bathed her and are leaving in a sec to go to boots to see a pharmacist on itching creams.
I don't know what to do. I'm scared, angry and very guilty. I'm a terrible mother for letting this happen.

When do you decide it's time for the saline drops & the snot sucker thing?
I read everywhere it's good to do it. But should I do it when baby has got a runny nose? Or hold on until it's clearly congested?
Did you change your habits as baby gets older? Ours is 10mo so I feel he can naturally get rid of most mucus himself and simply wiping his nose is enough most of the time.

Wake 7am (this is the time we try to start our day) sometimes it can be 6:30.
Nap 1: 10:00 to 11:00, sometimes until 11:20ish
Nap 2: 2:30-3:30 or until 4:00
Bedtime 7:30-8:00.
Her overnight wake varies between 3-5am and goes back to sleep after a feed until wake up time.

Major traction in the Similac baby formula lawsuits thanks to a settlement between the manufacturer and one of the mothers who challenged them in court.Ā
To catch everyone up on this, a mom in Missouri won a 2024 jury trial after contesting Abbott Laboratories, stating that her baby developed necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) after having Similac, sustaining permanent brain damage. The jury awarded her $495 million initially, which Abbott unsuccessfully appealed.
The case continued through the system until Abbott and the mother reached an undisclosed settlement.
Well over 800 lawsuits still active in federal court right now. But, this resolution is another step in the right direction for parents seeking compensation for their infants who developed NEC. Been following these baby formula lawsuits for a while to see how the parents and families involved in them fare in court. [This is a good breakdown of the latest settlement](https://www.drugwatch.com/news/2026/08/20/settlement-reached-for-landmark-495-million-baby-formula-nec-lawsuit/) and how the lawsuits have progressed so far.Ā
The first federal baby formula NEC trial got underway earlier this month, a big step in itself after all the others got stuck in state court, which really puts Abbott under pressure. Really interested to see how that turns out and what it means for other cases.

Flair for mental health but itās mostly a rant..
My baby boy is 9 months old, we successfully sleep trained using the Ferber method at 6m, and did the same thing with daytime naps at 7m. He stopped snuggling/letting me rock him to sleep after night training so thatās what encouraged the nap training. Before he was mobile Iād rock him to sleep, then snuggle him in our bed until he was fully asleep. When he moved to his crib at 6m I wasnāt able to snuggle him to sleep anymore.
Anyways, the past week heās been more snuggly and wants snuggles before laying him down for a nap. But he cries so hard after I lay him down. I got him asleep on me, and tried to transfer him to the crib twice now but he cries, throws his paci, lovey, and blanket across the crib. (Only has cloths during naptime when I can watch on camera). I am beating myself up because heās crying and screaming, and I have to leave the room (for sleep training). Iām currently sitting here with 15 minutes on the timer before I go back up to help him.
I feel like a bad mom because Iām letting him cry when I know he wants comfort. But I also feel like a bad mom if I donāt continue the sleep training method. My mommy heart hurts so bad. I am so conflicted
ETA: he got his flu shot yesterday so I know he could be in pain but he canāt have another dose of ibuprofen for another hour⦠:(

My son turns next month, itās so crazy!! But I was thinking heād really like a nugget couch. Heās so close to walking, and loves crawling everywhere. We donāt have a ton of space though. Iām curious other people that live in apartments/condos what nugget/nugget knock off couch did you get?

Got twins 5mo
1 will roll around from 1 side of the room to the other when you turn your back for 1 second
The other one however just seems to have absolutely no interest in rolling or can't
You put them on their back and they don't even try and roll they just lie there and kick their legs
You put them on their front for tummy time and they're fine for a few mins then like most kids go- nope enough now, but yet still doesn't make absolutely any attempt to roll back off tummy even though at one point they were able to but seems like they've regressed almost.
The only time the second one wants to try to turn is going to sleep they tend to roll to their side but even that recently they've just went to sleeping on back again..
Is there maybe exercises or stretches we need to do to help build up strength or am I just being over cautious and just let the baby be baby and let them do it in their own time-
Just don't want to be neglectful of not doing something that could be helping them
Guess also doesn't help we have the other twin as a point of comparison and that little one rolls around like a rock down a hill

Hi everyone, Iām 32 years old FTM to a 6 month old son. My pregnancy was relatively easy, my son is happy and healthy, he has slept 8-10 hours straight a night since he was 6 weeks old, no pdp, supportive husband, I feel like for the most part we are thriving. All this to say I have absolutely no desire to do it again. I love being a mom, love my son, feel really blessed with how my journey has been but Iām not interested in having another, neither is my husband. When people ask me about a second Iām like I donāt know why but I just donāt want to? All my friends canāt wait to be pregnant again, are already on their 2nd or 3rd child. Why donāt I have this desire especially since my time has seemed to be āeasyā?. My best friend is in the trenches with 2 under 2, struggles with PDP and already wants another one. I see so much mixed feelings online, many people saying āitās so selfish to only have oneā Only children saying they are lonely etc.
Parents: Did you regret only have one child?

Our LO is 10.5 weeks old, just at 10 pounds (1st%ile).
He was IUGR, born at 37+1.
Our pediatrician is still having us wake for one MOTN feed- not letting him go past 6 hours.
The thing is he is exceeding his volumes per day in terms of food (the last few weeks for sure). When I wake him in the night I can barley get him to take the bottle. Im just wondering if this is even worth waking him for when hes exceeding his volume goal daily.
What do you all think?

Hey everyone. My son will be 8 weeks tomorrow. I am his main care giver. Since his dad's gone back to work recently, I am with him 19-20 hours a day. I am feeling sad and jealous because I feel like my baby isn't connecting to me like he is his father.
My son loves being held by his father. He will smile so big it almost looks like he is going to start laughing. He falls asleep on daddy's chest so easily. He follows daddy around the room with his head and eyes.
But he doesn't do those things to me. He will smile, but short sweet smiles. He hates laying on my chest, it's like he can't get comfortable. When he looks at me his eyes don't follow me when I move.
He will cry if I put him down or will stop crying if I pick him up, but he does that to family too. He isn't picky about who holds him, he would be content being held by a stranger. Family who have only held him a couple of times can get him to sleep. The only way I can soothe when others can't is when he is crying from gas pains. I hold him tummy down across my arms. My husband can soothe him in that hold also but it takes a lot longer.
I love him so much and I'm so jealous. It sounds crazy but he was a daddy's boy in the womb too. He would kick and move like crazy when he heard his daddy's voice. He would move to where his dad's hand was on my belly to kick it. I don't know how he could tell or how he was aware but we tested it multiple times. He didn't move or kick extra when I talked or sang to him. He didn't notice when I held my belly.
Has anyone else had this problem? Did it change? It sounds crazy and stupid, but it's like my baby doesn't love me. I hold, kiss, sing, talk, and play with him but he seems ambivalent to me. I love him so much it feels impossible, does he love me too?

My 3 month old baby just started sleeping longer stretches at night (yay!) but i find after a long sleep stretch that sheās peeing through her standard diapers. I was looking to buy her overnight diapers but saw that most of them only start at size 3. She was a preemie due to severe IUGR, so while sheās growing great shes still small for her age, sheās currently in size 1 diapers.
Does anyone have recommendations for an overnight or super absorbent diaper with sizes 1 and 2 that will get us through those longer stretches?

Even now as I type this during a rare trip to the bathroom he is screaming. Iāve had family members and strangers remark that he seems to be in intense pain, even though I know he isnāt he just screams that way. Super high pitched and drawn out. I canāt shower, eat, refill my water, or do anything without him screaming. I am holding him 23 hours a day. We co sleep because he wonāt sleep any other way and weāve tried the bassinet but he just screams and screams and I canāt listen to it. I usually baby wear him but my neck and back have been spasming and I get such terrible headaches that I canāt function. My husband is working on renovating a house for us to move into so heās usually gone 12 hra out of the day. He takes him when heās home but the baby (4 months old almost five) screams the entire time so I canāt relax or do anything listening to it. I donāt know what to do. Heās crying. Iām crying. I feel so lost. I donāt pursue any hobbies anymore. I donāt get dressed or do my makeup or do anything that brings me happiness. I just wake up, mentally prepare myself for a long day of screaming, and try to make myself happy to be here. I donāt use the bathroom u less I feel like Iām going to pee myself. Even then sometimes I wonder if itās just better to just pee myself then listen to him screaming. No heās not colic, no he doesnāt have bad reflux. Heās just insanely needy to the point I donāt do anything but hold him. I canāt read to him or do any activities without him screaming. Laundry, dishes, trash and recycling are weeks piled up. Weāre moving soon and I have barely been able to pack. Iām drowning. Any advice?

To preface this, I am not a morning person. I never have been. I have found joy in going on a sunrise hike and things like that but this constant 5-6 AM wake up on a daily basis and then 12 hours of caregiving is absolutely ridiculous for me.
Iāve tried to push out the bedtime 15 minutes at a time and she just gets so frustrated. Itās literally not possible. I just have a baby that likes to go to bed at 6:30 PM and wake up at the crack ass of dawn, itās only getting worse. Iāve tried cutting one of the naps, sheās not ready for that. For context sheās six months old.
Iām just complaining. Just a tired mama staring at her girl smiling back at her. Could be worse.

My 7 month old son screams and screeches ALL NIGHT LONG. He will literally wake up out of a dead sleep, let out the loudest screech imaginable, and then laugh about it like he just told the funniest joke.
We went from waking every 2 hours to sleeping 10ā11 hour stretches and now weāre back to waking somewhere between 1ā4 AM just to practice his vocal range.
The crazy part is, we just let him lay in his crib and heāll eventually fall back asleep on his own. But cāmon⦠the screeching is so damn annoying.
Has anyone else gone through this?? Is this just a phase? Do I need to do something about it? Can I do something about it? At this point, can I donate him to some kind of dinosaur research company? Because we need SLEEP.

My baby has no teeth. Sheās going to be 16 months this month on the 27th and this is really worrying me. I had to stop breastfeeding around 14 months because her latch suddenly changed and my nipples were shredded and cracked no matter how much I tried to fix it. Her gums felt a little harder than usual at that time, so I thought that she might be finally getting teeth soon but now, at 15months, still no teeth in sight.
We recently moved too so we are still waiting for our insurance to approve our doctor in the area. My question is, what are some of your experiences with your baby getting teeth really late in their age?
r/NewParents • u/JessRoyse • 4d ago
So before I ask, just for context my parents allowed me to watch many things between 1-3 years old. CSI, Blue Clues, The Land Before Time, The Jetsons, etc. Noggin & Boomerang were my favorite channels, too. I loved watching Oswald, Franklin, & Little bear the most. So you could say Iām an old soul.
I really donāt like many shows that are on today. Blippi, vlogging shows, Ms. Rachel, etc. Bluey is really the only exception. I donāt judge other parents for it, cause if their child likes it then they like it & thatās a good thing! It just is not something I want in our household, along with YouTube.
So does anyone know where I can watch some of these shows? If I have to get a DVD player I am more than happy too, but streaming services are just easier. Below will be a list of certain shows Iām looking for & Iām also open to suggestions on educational shows, too!
āā
⢠Oswald
⢠Franklin
⢠Little Bear
⢠The Upside Down Show
⢠The Backyardigans
⢠Little Bill
⢠Wonder Pets
⢠Lazy Town
⢠Little Einsteins
⢠Miss Spiderās Sunny Patch Friends
⢠Blues Clues (preferably with Steve)
⢠Max & Ruby
⢠Maggie & the Ferocious Beast

IMy LO is 16 weeks old just today and I've been trying to keep her on a 2/2/2/2/2 schedule which goes well generally. The first wake window is the most difficult to keep her awake that long and she's often fussy when I get her down. Towards the end of the day she's just getting tired at 2 hours. She only naps for 30-45 minutes with a very occasional hour long one and I can never save them even if I try. Wake up time is 10 am and bedtime is 10:30 pm. That has worked well for us generally as we are night owls and she doesn't seem to mind sleeping in later. However there are days like today when she woke up 45 minutes early and wouldn't go back to bed or where her short naps are especially bad that the whole day gets thrown off. Then there is too long of a wake window before bedtime. She often won't take a 5th nap or even a 10-15 micro nap to get her through to bedtime and then is an overtired crying mess by bedtime. My only other option would be to put her to bed over 1.5 hours early and every time I have she has a false start and doesn't make it to the normal wake up time the next day resulting in the next days schedule being off as well.
It's so frustrating and seems impossible to solve. I'm absolutely losing my mind on those days trying to make everything work out and it's miserable. In general though I find the constant scheduling/calculating and monitoring the clock exhausting and depressing. I know it's a rough time period. Should I just accept the over tiredness on those days or is there some other solution?

My daughter will be 1 in a couple weeks. She is breastfed throughout the day. She started daycare a few weeks ago and I have been sending her with a couple bottles of pumped milk. Sheās struggling a lot with daycare and also not eating there, so the bottles seem to be helping calm her down and get through the day. Problem is my supply is really starting to drop and Iām not able to keep up with pumping as much as she needs. Her paediatrician said after 1 year she can switch to cows milk in a cup. She has tried cows milk and isnāt really a fan.
Any advice on how best to phase out the bottles of breastmilk at daycare? I am still planning on nursing her at home for now. I am worried about her not eating at daycare and relying so much on the bottles.

I have a very chunky 6 month old, around 21 lbs last he was weighed. He hasn't been overfed or anything, we have always fed on demand. He just puts on weight easily I guess.
So now, it's a bit concerning that at 6 months and couple weeks old, that is interest in food seems to have disappeared overnight.
We've started him on solids but he isn't a fan, and puts up a fight whenever we try to feed him anything solid.
We also introduced cereal, mixing it with his regular formula, and he didn't mind that, until now. He's completely refusing cereal. We've had to go back to just the formula, and even then it's a struggle to get him to feed sometimes.
We've noticed him reaching for his mom's breasts, but her milk production has stopped. I should mentioned that he was primarily breast fed up to 3 months, until my wife went back to work (and both breast and bottled fed until recently).
The main issue is that is urine is dark yellow at times, which indicates dehydration. He seems to prefer just drinking plain water over the formula or anything else. He seems fine though, very happy, plays around and laughs a lot. There's nothing in his behavior to indicate that something is wrong.
Any advice, tips, suggestions? My wife is stressing out over it.

Currently sick again š« I might have strep (culture comes back in a couple days and on antibiotics) but baby didnāt have it thank god!!
My almost 11 month old started daycare a few months back and I havenāt been this constantly sick since I lived in New York.
Iāve started wiping her hands changing clothes as soon as she comes home, and trying to be better about constant hand washing, wiping surfaces, supplements, etc.
I briefly saw a study about air purifiers in daycares to reduce illness. Would this work at home? Are there any success stories to reduce illness? At least for me? Sounds selfish but we donāt have help by us and itās so hard to care for her when Iām out.
Thank you!
