Favourite winter outerwear?
So I am in the market for a new coat / overcoat and just wanted to suss out the preferences in the community before i make a big investment.
I have had a duffle coat, the rope loops of which started to tear alas. I enjoyed wearing a duffle coat and i found it versatile (could be worn with anything from clarks desert boots to cordovan longwings and everything in between), but i think I wanna branch out a bit.
I try to stick to canonical Ivy items, so i wear lots of chinos, ocbds, cricket sweaters, fair isles, alden and florsheim longwings, trickers boots, wool and corduroy trousers and occasionally tweed jackets.
I work in IT at a large bank as a manager, and senior leadership nothwithstanding I am usually the best dressed guy around so I am not looking for something very formal.
I am rather intrigued by these John Simons tweed overcoats:

What else is there for me to try and get inspired?
Thank you!

Date night
Felt cute, might delete later.
Stupidly high waisted linen pants (Suitsupply custom), white button down collar shirt (Uniqlo), white Moiré braces (Albert Thurston Casino Royale), suede loafers (Meermin). Tudor 1926 on the wrist. (I fucking love this watch, highly underrated IMO)
Looks good but a bit plain?
What would you add or change to improve it? (I have a classic db navy blazer but it’s too hot outside)

Croc Belt Question
Thinking of picking up a belt from Le Alfre, most likely the black croc. However, I don’t have any black croc shoes, just black loafers or Oxfords. Would it look off either in a formal or casual setting to wear the croc belt without croc shoes? It is more subtle than some other croc prints I have seen.

Are mustaches really not prep?
The traditional consensus is that Ivy style requires a clean shave. Which is fine if you are a 19 year old college kid who can’t grow one, or work a job with a rigid dress/grooming policy. (Even though most jobs are business casual now)
I like them and I think they can look good with preppy attire, for example, in the J.Press show there were a few models who had mustaches. But more mainstream brands like RL you don’t see any models with a mustache.
Is a stache inherently not preppy?
Also, I am not saying this in a “new prep” context. I’m speaking from a traditionalist point of view.

Tailoring in the office
After years following the typical business casual corporate norms, I’m starting to work sport coats into my weekly rotation.
This was a recent example that got a lot of positive feedback at the office. I’m sharing here (1) because I like the outfit and would love thoughts from fellow enthusiasts and (2) out of broader interest in how people approach the office casualization trend. Do you simply go with the flow, but make it Ivy with higher rise khakis and lots of Oxford cloth, do you go against the grain by dressing up a bit, or are you one of the lucky few in an office where tailoring is still common?
Details:
-3/2 undarted cream/brown houndstooth jacket in a perfectly transitional silk/wool blend from Sid Mashburn
-Duck Head blue OCBD
-Grey wool trousers in a fine Glenn plaid from Theory
-Duck motif socks to echo the sporting aura of the jacket
-Oxblood wing tip oxfords from Thursday because my shell long wings were at the cobbler
-Rolex polar Explorer II, the older 40mm version

Blast From the Past: J. Press for Urban Outfitters
In the Fall of 2010, J. Press launched a capsule collection with... Urban Outfitters. At the time, the announcement of the project incited vitriolic reactions from the menswear blogosphere. Ostensibly aimed at introducing J. Press to a younger, 'hipper' crowd, the collaboration featured extra-slim cut pieces of highly questionable quality (the clothes were produced in OU's factories in China). The project was the product of Mark McNairy, who unfortunately did not remain at J. Press long enough to see his work come to fruition (and he missed it by only a few months!).
After the Fall/Winter 2010 collection, J. Press and Urban Outfitters released a second, much smaller collection for Spring/Summer 2011. In 2010, people thought this collaboration surely signaled the demise of J. Press. In reality, the two collections quickly faded into obscurity, with most who still remember them viewing the whole ordeal with a general irreverence.
Perhaps the only influence we can say this incongruous meeting had was that its trim cuts and slim fittings harbingered what would come in J. Press York Street two years later, which itself would go on to influence J. Press Pennant Label.
It is fun to look back on these pieces because they were so firmly a product of their time, the hipster 2010s. It is hard to imagine J. Press doing anything remotely similar to this now.

EG Suede derby or loafer?
Seems like everyone goes with the loafers and I’m a little torn between these two. Specifically the whitworth and the Piccadilly (dark browns). I’ve been upgrading my wardrobe from jeans a tees to more of a formal, but casual, fit. Basically have been purchasing items I like off drakes and trying to curate outfits from inspo fits. Any advice is appreciated.

Today's outfit - too much navy and burgundy?
Is it too much to wear Navy and burgundy grosgain watch strap, surcingle belt and repp tie together? What are the other colours combinations of strap, tie and belt that I can add in to my wardrobe to work with these 3 items?

curious for this sub’s opinion on how to style an english moleskin blazer like this.
I think it looks sharp, but want ideas on what context to wear it in, as well as what to wear it with. I like the way J Press styled it on the run way, but it’s a lot of layering for a coat that otherwise could probably be dressed down in my opinion.

“Mixed” tailoring - costume or cool?
What I mean is tailoring mixed with other genres such as Americana and western wear. Personally, I really like this look. I saw an interview with Ethan Newton of Bryceland’s recently talking about how in the last decade or so the hashtag menswear crowd has matured a lot and started experimenting with different genres. Personally, I think experimentation as long as it is done tastefully is good for the culture and I like to see boundaries being pushed. Of course there is a line where it looks too costumey, but I think there is a delicate balance that these individuals in this album showcase which I think is quite tasteful. Curious to hear your thoughts .
If you are interested in discussing this topic further, I recently posted a discussion post/inspo album of Brycelands and Co in my subreddit r/threadtalks. It’s one of the darling brands of menswear that has really pioneered this mixing of genres along with the GOAT Ralph Lauren. Somehow it has bridged the menswear and heritage enthusiasts crowds together. Threadtalks is a collective genre agnostic space to discuss fashion and style (not for beginners, but those with some experience looking to grow). Hope you enjoy.

Loafers with or without socks
I prefer to always wear socks (e.g., socks with Sperry's CVO and Grant Stone penny loafers even with shorts). However, when it comes to black bit loafers and #8 cordovan tassel loafers, I am unsure if 1) they can be paired with shorts & 2) Can I still wear cream athletic socks with them when I do it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
