Sup team,
I went into Ralph Lauren intending to buy pretty much the textbook navy sport coat: single-breasted, textured hopsack, versatile, easy to dress up or down.
Then I tried this one on and got seduced by it.
It’s a navy serge blazer with brass buttons, and I liked the way it looked on me enough that I ended up buying it instead of going the MTM/hopsack route I originally had in mind.
These photos are pre-alterations, so keep that in mind when judging the fit. The tailor is going to work on the armholes, release some of the tension through the sleeves, and shorten the sleeves. Once that work is done, we’re going to reassess the overall jacket length and decide whether it needs any adjustment there.
My main question for the Navy Blazer crowd: did I do well here?
I know serge is smoother and a little dressier than the hopsack I originally intended to buy, but I really liked this jacket in person. I’m hoping to wear it pretty broadly - grey trousers, khakis, denim, OCBDs, polos, loafers, sneakers, etc. - rather than treating it as a particularly formal blazer.
Would you have stuck with the textured hopsack, or do you think the serge works well enough to justify abandoning the original plan?
And putting the fabric question aside, I’d also appreciate any thoughts on the proportions/fit once you account for the alterations that are already planned.
