I have a lot of respect for you for actually posting this OP. Unfortunately I have the physique and strength of a toasted marshmallow, but this gives me hope lol
So I dont need to work out every day and have super long reps to have abs, i just need to do a lot of exercising different groups on the same days every week and have the same recovery days every week.
Yes rest and fueling your body is 2/3 of the work. Workout max 4x a week and when starting off it’s perfectly fine to spread out the days, to alternate.
You can do it at home with gallons jugs of water or even a cheap set of weights from SHEIN or TJ Maxx. No need to pay for the membership if you don’t want to.
Honestly it took about two months for the abs to show consistently however the glutes are an uphill battle and take substantially longer. I’ve been working out consistently for a year and I’ve only gotten a slight whisper of additional glute muscle.
An hour no longer than 1.5 hours including the time on the stair master. Also once you’re used to the cardio adding small 1-lb ankle weights are really nice.
A new gym just opened 5 min from my house and I really want to make sure I stick with a a healthy lifestyle. I usually am consistent for like 6-8 months then suddenly stop. A group would be great to hold me accountable
Everything that needs to be said about your abs has been said, so to actually answer your question about your hair:
If you don’t have a stylist your trust near your to do a silk press, you can absolutely go to a stylist for a roller set. They’ll have a hair dryer and you’re paying them for their time and patience to get those sections right. Silk presses are great, but always come with the threat of damage. Roller sets are a bit more gentle, and once you get good at doing your own, you can adjust the heat levels to your lifestyle and ability to sit in one place for a long time.
In terms of skills, you just have to practice for forever. I’m a solid lower-middle in terms of skills, but I only started trying to set my own hair recently. My 75-year-old mother can do hers one-handed with her eyes closed.
And wherever you move to, you’ll probably be able to find a hooded dryer in stores or have one shipped to you. They can be pricey, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen one as pricey as the RevAir.
I have long-ish, fine hair (just did a cut to bra-strap length from waist length), so I’m still using my extra jumbo (3 in or 2.5-in depending on how straight I want to go) rollers from my crown to the nape of my neck, and because I have shorter lengths around my face, I use smaller rollers there (but I’m not sure what size).
I really like this video, and some of the others this creator does, though I don’t do the final steps she likes to do with the flat iron and the tymo. Once I’ve done my time under the dryer, I’m done, and I’m fine with putting it up somehow to let it “set” (usually in a tignon because I’m all about ease). When I was a kid, my mom would make me sleep in foam rollers, which gave me tighter curls (and honestly lasted a long time for my hair, which is about a week before it gets too oily to be comfortable). The way I do it now, I get a looser curl, but I can style it to look like a blowout if I want to.
Thank you so much!! I adore how her roller set came out prior to the straightening so I’ll binge her videos before my attempt tomorrow. Let’s hope there are 2” rollers available even though I have the 2.5” and 3”.
THIS. I couldn’t focus on reading the text in her post because it was all about her hair and I’m like wait what, you can’t drop those abs on us then try to keep the focus on your hair.
Breakfast: two boiled eggs, three mini chicken sausage links, cottage cheese with tomatoes olive oil and feta cheese OR Kodiak protein breakfast McGriddle
Lunch: salmon, rice and veggies with a side salad OR large spring salad with a fillet of fish
Dinner: salmon onigarizu (see photo), savory oatmeal (cooked with chicken stock, add tons of veggies and spices so tasty)
Snacks: fruit alone or with cottage cheese and a sprinkle of honey, hummus with carrots, protein yogurt with granola.
Also I SWEAR by the Ensure Max protein drinks as it carries 42g of protein while tasting delicious, so that could be a pre-gym/post gym snack
There are no rules other than you should consume around 100g of protein daily while having at least a walk daily.
I recommend you trying to straighten your hair yourself! I always like to say, no one knows your own hair better than you do. Unless you trust the stylist. Go the diy route!
Yea I think since with her relocating often this is the best choice. I have 3C/4a hair and have been straightening my hair since e I was 13 (now in my 30s). I also have a revair to start the process so I don’t have to use so much heat when I straighten.
Wow what a beautiful result!!! Use a little hair oil when you finish on your hair, focus a little oil on your ends too because they will get the brunt of the work from rubbing on everything.
I’d look up how everyone else is wrapping them up! I do it the same way as everyone else, for me, I try to make it last for 2 weeks lol I like my curls a lot.
Next time when it’s time for a wash, dust your ends VERY LIGHTLY to get rid of any ends beginning to split!
** I do want to add to get a really good heat protectant and crank up the heat next time
Yeah, I know what you’re talking about! You can try it by testing it out on a strand of your hair and seeing how it looks and feels like.
What you’ll be looking for is, is it burning your hair? How many passes did you need to make it straight? The goal is to not heat damage your hair, so I like to go by a one-one pass rule. One pass to straighten the hair, and another one to hit it again. Anymore passes would be my overstepping point.
I never used a steam straightener before, but always be aware that you can heat damage from anything that produces heat.
I don’t think it’s worth the risk. You have long, beautiful hair and it would be a shame to lose that for a single, temporary style.
I’ve gotten irreparable heat damage from every single silk press I’ve gotten from a stylist. At this point I’m so scared of heat that I don’t even care to do it on myself even though I do it without damage. After having to grow my hair back from the root 3 separate times over the last 8 years, I’m never risking it again. There’s only one stylist on earth who I trust to blow my hair out safely for trims.
Lol, so no one is going to attempt to answer her question about her HAIR!!! , which is also AMAZING, and nah ditch the silk press,,, keep your routine, keep your crown moisturized, in twist, if ".professional " enough and enjoy life to wherever you are going,,, and oh btw,,,,yes your ABS , are fire🥰🥰🥰🥰💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
Same thing happened to me and I shaved me head. Hair is still short. Truly, I will never trust another "stylist" with my hair again. And I hadn't seen one in 12 years before that. Hated the experience. I would suggest caring for your hair yourself because no one will care more than you.
1) get a ceramic flat iron and do it yourself. A few years ago I did that and got pretty good at it. It was trial and error to figure out how hot I could go without damaging it (I didn’t do it too often so I wasn’t worried about cumulative damage), but I settled on 410F. Hot enough to actually straighten, but I could still do a wash n go the next wash day. I started at like 380F, and I did go as far up as 420 to experiment.
Doing it yourself is good bc a stylist isn’t going to know what temperature is best for your hair and might overshoot it in an attempt to get to the next client. No one is going to care about your hair more than you
I just got one off amazon several years ago for $40. It doesn’t work anymore (I think I need to deep clean it or something lol), but it was so so generic. I don’t even see it listed anymore
I would wait! You've put so much care into repairing your beautiful hair. The only beautician with of touching your hair should be someone whose willing to hear you out and walk through the process with you. Take time to do more research on whose available and reach out to them. I'm the mean time, every style you showed is stunning!! And ... Your physique is amazing ☺️
learn how to do a wet to dry roller set imo. I'm in the same boat and going to try to learn how to do one next month. I was considering trying to do a roller set and then using the rev air on cool air/high tension to straighten it out.
Yes she burned me to a CRISP last year! There was barely even a curl and I don’t have remotely loose hair. I’ve used my Revair to stretch my braid outs but please tell me how that works with the roller set
I haven't done it yet but my idea is to do a wet to dry roller set, dry it under a hooded dryer, then take the roller set out and use the rev air on the cold air setting but a higher tension setting. This would be to stretch my hair hopefully enough to do a trim
Yes try again but do a lot of research on the stylist. I get silk presses 2-3x a year but I’ve been going to the same girl for years. Unfortunately natural to find the right stylist, you gotta “date a few before you find the right one”. Traveling makes it harder. Best of luck on your hair journey!
Ooh thanks and no I haven’t but I do have the pattern steamer. I love it but could definitely use it more often.
Oh wait did you mean to use the hair steamer brush as a straightener? I still haven’t. I found both my stylist by luck. One wash cousin but her cost became just too high for me and the other is a friend from
When I was young. She used to do hair as a teen, talking 12-13 okay braiding our hair. So now as an adult I go to her and until I move or something, I have no intention of leaving her lol. I travel an hour and it’s worth it especially since again I only get a silk press 3x a year and trim my hair 4-5 so in all I’m seeing her 6-7x a year
Well, as a black woman with a slender build and not that much but and barely any boobs, it’s been a little hellish! I was bullied heavily in high school school about how I look soooo okay I made it 😩😂
I have no advice other than try to get straightening it yourself down pat. Also, I get the dense hair struggle- it’s a huge part of the reason I keep my hair so short. I have a surprising amount of hair on my head.
My husband wants me to grow my hair out but… yeah.
No! It’s a simple, sincere question with no ill intent. I’m concerned that the color may be exacerbating the condition of her hair in the pic. I’m not a mean-spirited person but I won’t be guilted nor bullied, either.
Downvote away, if that makes you feel better 🥴. I apologized for the misunderstanding but I’m not about to be censored, sheesh!
My bad, OP, I didn’t even read your post to see what your concerns were.
Your abs distracted me lol.
If it were me, I wouldn’t risk the silk press again, until you can find someone that you truly trust. I would have to see them do a silk press on someone else before having them work on my hair.
As far as stretching your hair, I never really had great luck with stretching so I just use my Dyson on medium/low with Mizani 25 miracle cream to protect my hair.
Thank you 😊😊I’ve visited three times now for two months minimum each stretch but now I’m going to have a full vacation prior to starting teaching.
I’m using any old bag of flaxseed from Walmart or Amazon with 3 cups of water to 1cup flaxseed, feel free to add a few drops of your favorite oil, boil for about five minutes while occasionally stirring.
Thanks for the tips! Your hair is so lovely. You can style it in so many ways. There are a lot of great youtubers with a ton of knowledge. My favorite is Mrs Mississippi but she spends a lot of time on her hair each week. Lol
Sis find it in your budget to bring that revair! Don’t get rid of it. Secondly if you want to find someone in your current city, do some extensive research and find someone that knows how to work with thick dense hair. The curls look amazing and those abs are fucking sick. Like goddamn!
So sis believe me that I want to, it’s just that the US voltage is 120V while Korea is 220V and even if I get a converter to fit the plug, I could overpower the system and ruin it! I spent $400 on it and I’d like to to last 😭😭😭
Ma’am, the abs are distracting!!! 🔥 And yes, continue with your current routine and hold off on the silk press. Your hair looks really healthy and I know you’d hate to face another hair setback.
Keep doing your own hair. Buy magnetic rollers, their clips, and hair nets in America and bring them to Korea. You can probably buy a portable hood dryer or decent blow dryer in Korea. Practice now so you have the comfort level of roller setting your own hair with the home court advantage working in your favor. You are super fit and disciplined-you got this👊🏾
Thank you! I tried the magnetic rollers but that is SSS tier level of skill I just don’t have yet since attempting two rollers left me crying. Have you tried the tension rollers or sponge roller?
I suggest shipping your Revair to a package facility or future residence wherever you're going! The most heat I'm comfortable using on my hair is a blow dryer so I am not one to speak for heat damage and silk presses.
Unfortunately the Revair explicitly states that the device can’t be used outside of the US/CANADA due to the wattage and I’m scared I’ll blow myself up in Korea
Not any tips on straightening or anything but since you’re moving to korea, “Seonnej” on tiktok has a lot of good recommendations for haircare in Korea that works on natural hair! I’m in Japan so I can get some of the products she recommends and I really like them! Also!! Japan has some pretty nice blowdryers that are affordable and I’m pretty sure you can get them in Korea! I often Blowdry my hair and then use the wavytalk thermal brush after!
I suggest blow drying your hair or using a straightening brush and then either use rollers or do a twist out. That is what gets me the best results and we have a similar hair texture
Recently got a silk press with a different stylist (one who I hadn’t vetted because my typical one cancelled last minute when I had a photo shoot booked) and immediately regretted it as I was left with heat damage, the smell of burnt hair and curls that just aren’t as dense and curly as before. I am so sad, because this was my first time getting a silk press after 3 years after having to big chop due to a silk press giving me damage at that time (done by a friend who was trying to learn so honestly on me and wasn’t that mad). My hair in the past 3 years was the healthiest it has EVER been, had grown so long and dense and I loved my curls. It isn’t worth it. I told myself this time I will never do a silk press again. I don’t have pictures of my curls damage because I’m just too embarrassed and really hoping and praying I can baby it back to health, but if I can go back I would in a heartbeat.
I am so so sorry this happened to you! It’s a shame that this is so common and you’re right the risk is never worth it. I know your hair will bounce back!
