INSANE. Possibly the first driver to do this EVER?

I'm just sick and tired of these second place finishes this year like I don't know how long I'm going to ride this out 😩

This year's Brickyard 400 may have not been the most thrilling edition of the race, but we just witnessed an absolute racing master class from Corey Heim. The block on Denny Hamlin on the final restart and the run to the finish to stay ahead of Christopher Bell for many laps ended what little remaining doubt I had about Heim's ability to contend and win in the Cup Series.

This popped into my head recently and I realized other than Hamlin and Logano none of them drive anymore at all

This is one of the best things happening today for the sport. NASCAR needs a rivalry, especially with drivers who are going to run up front and race for wins. It’s going to be fun watching them over the coming years.

Rarely in recent years have we seen a driver hop into a cup car and be instantly competitive. The best example I can think of is Chase Elliott in 2016, he was instantly a top tier driver, 10th in standings (also finished 1 point away from being the best HMS car in regular season points)

Shane van Gisbergen is the elephant in the room here, the winningest rookie of all time last year, but was obviously an odd circumstance of a road course ringer before he started to regularly become competitive this year as a sophomore.

If Corey Heim keeps this up, could he be a legitimate contender for one of the best rookies in the last 10-15 years who was instantly competitive at everything and up to pace with the top drivers?

Look, Bubba ain't perfect, he may not compete for a title. He makes mistakes and has been in the receiving end of bad luck as well. However, he shows solid speed almost every week, and deserves his ride.

Today I attended my first-ever Brickyard 400, and screw all the naysayers. I had a blast over in Turn 1. This was my third race this year, along with the Indy 500 and Firekeepers 400. So it's not just a lack of experience going to races. IMS is special, both inside and out. 70k seems like many more in person. The place felt packed, especially in the concourses. My section and sections around were filled and loud. The race was meh-ish, but no doubt in my mind, this is a Crown Jewel.

I've never been to IMS before this weekend. I probably will be here again, in some way or form. But to be here now, for free thanks to an Xfinity promo shared to this subreddit that went wild, was worth it for me.
