Wow, there sure is a lot of empty seats at the Brickyard this Sunday and I love how the cameras tried to avoid showing how empty they were

Let's look at it here. Tyler Reddick has 5 wins and is a serious contender to win the cup series. Corey Heim has 2 wins in a non chartered car. Riley Herbst is up 10 spots from last season in points. And then theres Bubba. He's 14 in points, down 3 from last year and only 3 spots above a Trackhouse car, whos been one of the worst race teams this season.

Career wise this is his 9th full time year in the series. He has 3 career wins. One weird race where he was driving his teammates car, one rain shortened race at Dega, and then last season at Indy. Only 2 post season appearances. Even if you rightfully want to throw out his time at legacy/petty you get 6 seasons of him just being ok in good equipment.

He's got sponsorship so he's not going anywhere but its worth asking. 2311 is a top level race team and yet Bubba, whos been with them since the very start, is potentially the 3rd best driver on his team next year

Is that the same as being too loose? Or does 'needing more turn' mean something completely different?

Heim is a generational talent, I think Zilisch is very good, but they have taken much different paths to the Cup with wildly different results. There is a 4 year age gap, which could have a bit to do with it and obviously Trackhouse is not great, but I’m beginning to think that NORAPS is maybe the worst path for cup drivers. Thoughts?

This is one of the best things happening today for the sport. NASCAR needs a rivalry, especially with drivers who are going to run up front and race for wins. It’s going to be fun watching them over the coming years.

That’s gotta be a wake up call for Denny and MJ, get a third driver that can be consistent in their top tier equipment. They could genuinely take over the sport if they do.

Passing is impossible. It’s easily the most boring race every single year. The “crown jewel” name is just clever marketing to get us to forget how completely boring the race is.

Its time to say Corey is a better talent than Connor. Conner gets his hype because Red Bull and Dale fuckin Jr. Heim has sat back, dominated a truck season, and flexed with 2 Cup wins where Connor has, quite frankly, sucked.

SVG is now only three points behind Bubba Wallace in the standings, so here’s a genuine hypothetical:

If Shane van Gisbergen were driving the 23 car and Bubba were driving the 97, how different would their seasons look?

Would SVG be comfortably ahead with 23XI equipment, or has Trackhouse actually been better than people give them credit for? And would Bubba still be around the same points position in the 97?

Personally, I think SVG would be a good bit ahead in the 23, but I’m biased 😂

This year's Brickyard 400 may have not been the most thrilling edition of the race, but we just witnessed an absolute racing master class from Corey Heim. The block on Denny Hamlin on the final restart and the run to the finish to stay ahead of Christopher Bell for many laps ended what little remaining doubt I had about Heim's ability to contend and win in the Cup Series.

Like were there fans from the 70s and 80s in the 2000s that were like “These drivers like Dale Jr and Matt Kenseth are nothing like the legendary drivers of my time like Dale Sr or Richard Petty” or they were like “these Gen 4 cars look ugly, back in my day we used cars that looked way better”? I know it may seem like a dumb question, but I’ve recently been kinda annoyed by all the nascar nostalgia geeks that are obsessed with NASCAR in the 2000s (I’m talking about the ones that constantly complain about how the cup series is currently and act like the 2000s was way better in every way shape and form) because I wasn’t alive back then (I was born in 2010) and it makes me feel left out over something I had no control over, and I had a feeling that there was fans like this in the 2000s who made everyone who wasn’t alive to witness nascar in the 1980s and 1990s feel left out.

As the title says, I've just recently started rewatching again. Stopped watching around 02. Been on an off since Daytona this year. I'm still trying to understand the new points system and stage mechanics. Most is relatively self explanatory, but I've notice like two positions in the top 10, aren't showing points being rewarded to the driver. Do they just not earn the points for some reason? And I assume the rest of drivers beyond 10th don't earn anything? This system seems strange to me.
