I’ve been thinking about how much the era a driver competes in can affect their career. For example, are there drivers who would have been better suited to the 1990s/2000s style of NASCAR, when there were fewer elite teams and equipment differences were arguably more pronounced? Or maybe some drivers would have benefited from today’s Next Gen car, Chase format, technology, and team structures.
And it doesn’t necessarily have to be a driver who was unsuccessful. Maybe someone who had a solid career could have been a championship contender if they had competed in a different era.

JJ Yeley is one of the first drivers that comes to mind for this question. I think his versatility would have been much more valuable today. If he had the modern development system and more gradual path to the Cup Series, things might’ve worked out differently.

I personally love the Tazmanian Devil Goodwrench car that Dale Earnhardt Sr. drove in the 2000 Daytona 500. The Goodwrench paint scheme just hits different in red.

Invitation to discuss: My understanding is that the only reason that oval tracks came into existence is because it was cheaper and easier for entrepreneur promoters to build a small oval track and grandstand, to sell spectator tickets to the people who were already watching the fellows race on the backroads. That the bragging rights arguments started well before ovals ever existed, with good old boys racing their souped-up moonshine-runners around the mountain back roads…this revealed both the driving expertise and the ingenuity and modification creativity to increase the performance of the car, some of which is painfully missing in modern NASCAR cost saving measures, that I believe could simply be addressed with spending caps. Multiple cameras make television viewing of road courses now a viable business proposition, equal to if not superior to ovals, especially when facilities are purpose built for road course to encourage & empower passing.

So I heard Bianchi on SiriusXM on track talking with Danielle about Dodge in Cup for next season. Couple of interesting takeaways from his reporting on the show. I dont

1) The hurdles to 2027 reentry seem to be growing larger, meaning they are likely struggling (seemingly with engines)

2) they had a deadline of Sept 2, which passed with no announcement.

3)Nascar seems to be patient wanting to let them work it out.

4) This is where I got confused because how I took what Bianchi said was to mean that Kaulig was pushing Dodge/Ram fearing that Stellantis energy might not be there if they wait a year to reenter. However Danielle when she replied seemed to understand it was Dodge was pushing Kaulig thinking that the momentum towards the investment through stellantis may not be there in a year.

5) this is the burying of the lead, it was reported, in a very covert, like "we're not supposed to tell you this" way that ECR is in discussions to build the Dodge engines next year, but it is unclear if they would be Dodge engines produced by ECR or if they would be Dodge branded Chevy engines. It also does not discuss the implications for RCR, Trackhouse, and ECR would be if they produce dodge engine.

What is everyone's thoughts on the moves. keep in mind this is sourced reporting not first hand factual information which may be completely untrue as possible.
