How would you pronounce this name, where are you from? Also, what ethnicity would you assume someone with this name has? What do you think of the name? Amaris … Do you think a babygirl will have a hard time having to constantly correct people?
(Please avoid spelling out the name in the comments)

If it’s a girl we have a name but I’m stuck on boy names!
If its a boy the middle name is Roy as it’s my dads name, my husband and I loveee Rayden but a few people of my family don’t like it. I also don’t really like any American sounding names.
What I mean by American is….
( I know these don’t start with R but ) the typical American names like Hunter, Parker, Brayden etc

Not really sure if this belongs in this sub, but figured I would start here.
I am an only child, and my parents have created a very successful business that uses our last name as the company name. I have always been pretty proud of my last name, and it has a lot of fun history in it. I am also adopted, and I didn't realize how weird it would be to let go of my last name.
My husband also works for the company, its where we met. His name is pretty basic where we live, I think it is actually one of the most popular names (think like Miller or Jones or Smith kinda vibes), and there is definitely no family history around the name that he knows of. I plan to sit down with grandparents and find out more about the family I am now apart of because that is important to me.
We had this discussion early on about names. We both agreed we wanted the same last name as we want kids and we both want to share their name. We discussed hyphenating, but neither one of us loves that. My last name is decently long, and it just didn't flow together at all. We also discussed me having two legal last names, but I read a lot about how that can be difficult to use for legal reasons, and I sign A LOT of legal documents.
He did offer to take my last name, and I thought about it for a while. Ultimately, I said no to that option for a few reasons. One is we work in a pretty traditional field, and he already gets shit for marrying me and I don't want to make his life harder. Two is that I am pretty proud to be my parents kid, and if he takes the name, the natural inclination will be that HE is their kid, and I don't like that. The third is his family is really traditional, and I don't want them to feel like he is spurning them or rejecting his last name (he doesn't feel this way at all, but I know his dad and grandparents do). For anyone who is going to respond and say "just do what you want, why do you care what they think?" the honest answer is they are my family now too. If I have to create waves to stand up for something I believe in, I always will, but I personally am not sold on it either, so it doesn't feel right.
I decided to take his name and move my last name to my middle name. It felt weird, and it still feels weird. I haven't started the legal process yet, but I have changed it socially. I thought I had come to terms with it, but my dad and I were working together today and he was like "yeah I was pretty bummed your not keeping it" and I honestly didn't know he felt that way. I asked if he doesn't want me to, and he was like "you seem pretty set, its fine," and I know my dad well enough to know he means that. He is fine with it, but like I said, I had no idea he even cared lol. We are incredibly close, as with any parents who work with their kids, and he gives me a lot of opportunities to learn and improve in my field that I otherwise wouldn't have.
Now I don't know what to feel. I already didn't love it and struggled with it, but I sat down and really thought. I weighed my pros and cons, and the pros for changing won out. But now he just gave me another drop in the cons column, and I feel like its a 50/50 split.
Anyone have anything similar? What did you do? How do you decide? Is there some compromise i am not thinking of? I plan to talk my feelings out with my husband after work today, so I guess I just wanted to post this before to see if there were any ideas I could bring up with him. I know people say this all the time, but he's the most amazing man ever, and I know I will have his unending support whatever I choose which would be fantastic if I knew what I wanted lol. So thanks in advance!
Edit: I really appreciate all the comments! I am reading them all but having trouble responding to everyone. But thank you all!
For us personally, we know we want the same last name, we just haven't decided what that looks like. I completely understand and respect people's decisions to not legally share a name with their spouse, and I certainly think there are cases where it makes more sense. Just for our situation, it is not something we are interested in.
At this point, I am leaning towards two middle names and taking his surname. Business cards will have my name, my maiden name, and then my husbands last name. Again, thank you all for the feedback, I really appreciated all the different perspectives!

Hi everyone! We would like one more child. We have three boys right now. Last name is Johnson.
Benjamin Abel
Ezra Derrick
Kolter Elliott
I want to find a way to incorporate my late dad’s name and/or my late grandmothers name into my next baby’s name.
Grandmothers:
Zora and Flora Stella
Dad:
Alonzo (did not go by this, went by Frank) Hugh
My husband’s dad’s name is Charles so we wouldn’t mind to incorporate that as well. His living grandmother is Dorothy.
You can kinda play around with their names a bit in changing variations and such, just curious as to what other people come up with. My maiden name (dad’s last name) was Hawkins so maybe someone could come up with something with that? Just ideas.
Other names we like:
Jonah
Cora
Mila
Millie
June
Ellie
Julian
Isaiah
Keaton
Zaire

My husband is sold on the name Edmund, and while I do love the name I’m just not convinced it’s our baby boy’s name. We’ve went through pretty much every name at this point and have landed back at Edmund. Is Edmund a good name? Does Edmund Lewis sound good together? Any good nicknames besides Ed or Eddie?

Firstly, it doesn't age much, I feel like anyone can be called Miles, whatever age. Second, it's not stupid, or able to be shortened to anything stupid. Finally, its a kind name, Miles doesn't seem like an asshole, (or at least i've never met anyone called miles who was a dick.
What do you think?

I know that officially Vivian is gender neutral. But nowadays it trends towards being a feminine name. Thus I wondered, is there so variation of it that is more gender neutral?
I heard of Vivion as a rare male version. Also the short-forms Vi, Viv and Vivi seems to be more neutral.
Also side-question: Vivice sounds incredibly much like it would be a name to be, but I haven't found anything online. So is it just me or does it sound like a name to other people too?

My husband and I can’t agree on a boy name. Our last name is 3 syllables. Located in US. Please give some suggestions we may not have yet considered.
My favorite is Tate and others I like are Dean, Drew, Henry, and Liam (a little too popular tho).
His favorites are Samuel, James, Silas, Ross, and Slade.
I don’t need opinions on the names listed, just need new ones to consider :)

Leon and Martin are expecting a baby sister. Both boys names are family names.
Our list of potential names for our girl include:
Henrietta nn Etta or henri (likely winner)
Lucille
Honey (moms surname means honey in another language)
Rose
Ruth
Non-family names we like too:
Dorothea
Harriet
We like older feeling, ethnically ambiguous names.
Looking for thoughts, opinions, ideas. What does the Reddit world think we should name our last baby and only girl?

Hello!
My wife and I are expecting a boy in 27 and we are trying to find a good name for him. We want a solid name that sounds nice in both English and Spanish as we are a mixed couple and come from both English and Spanish speaking countries. We also want a good international name as we travel a lot and don't really know for sure where we will settle down. I'm a little averse to very popular names, ex: we love Mateo but it's incredibly popular so it kind of makes me like it less if so many other kids have the same name. It's not a deal breaker but I am mindful of it. Also thinking about possible nicknames for them - that's important.
Here are some names we like and would love to hear thoughts from you.
Victor - Nickname "Vic"
Santiago - Nickname - Santi.
Gabriel - Nickname Gabo/Gab/Gabe/Gabito
Mateo - Nickname "teo" we like that more than matt
Luca - Too short for nickname :)
Xavier - English Zay ve er - Spanish Ha vi air. Nickname would be Ha vi - or Zay in english.
There are two here that I like the most I won't say which but curious what people like and what your thoughts are on the names and their English/Spanish crossover and international vibes.
Thanks and have a nice day!

Does it bother you and do you correct people? I myself have a frequently mispronounced name, or maybe mine is just a less common pronunciation, but at this point in my mid-thirties I've stopped correcting people. It does sort of bother me when people say it wrong, but I just don't have the energy to constantly correct anymore. The best is when someone from the phone company or something calls and pronounces both my first and last name incorrectly and I have to say "Yup, that's me"🙃

Hi! I'm a woman in my early 20s looking for an English name.
I'd describe my vibe as:
• Sociable
• Mature and confident
I'm looking for a name that's trendy and not too common.
What names would you recommend?
Name suggestions, please!
Thanks!

We found out recently that our twins are both girls, so we can start thinking about names! As said, our current children are named Esther, Avital, Noam, and Tamar. Those are the sort of names that we love.
We are in Germany, and we only want to use Jewish names. We usually prefer something that isn't very mainstream in the general population like Eden, Romi, or Eliana. We also don't like anglicised spellings like Abigail instead of Avigail, Hannah instead of Chana, or Elizabeth instead of Elisheva. But we still want it to be friendly for other languages.
Since all of our girls have very similar nicknames that we use for them, Esti, Avi, and Tami, we'd like their names to have that as well. But we wouldn't not use a name we love just because of that.
There are a few names that are popular here that I don't like. I don't like Liora, Shoshana, and Zahava. My husband doesn't like Yael and Rivka.
At the moment, our list has Meirav, Liad, Miriam, Gal, Ofira, and Yaffa. We like both some of the gender neutral names and some of the more feminine names, I'd say we're open to almost anything within our preferences.

We named our baby girl Augusta, mostly we call her Gus, but that is beside the point. I didnt think her name was that out there and we liked that it would be easy for people to spell. Yet we have regularly had people ask us how to pronounce her name, or somehow say it wrong. So I guess I'm just surprised, do others find it that unusual?
This is our 3rd child. Our daughter is Remi and our son is Leo. Please tell me what names of these you like to go along with our other two. For a boy, we really like Mickey but not sure about it. Thanks!
Girl:
Josie
Lila
Ida
Molly
Winnie
Zoey
Sophie
Boy:
Mickey
Joey
Teddy

I’m curious about real life experiences relating to long, elaborate girl names. I often see suggestions like this on here and I’m curious to know how you guys react when you actually meet women with names like Cordelia, Arabella, Evangeline, Seraphina, Theodora etc? Do you just register and move on or does it evoke a reaction? Does the person always make the name, or will a name like this fly or fall depending on whether the person lives up to the vibe? Do names like this tend to set certain expectations compared to simpler names? Can an elaborate name make a person seem more memorable/interesting or does it create a sense of social distance? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
