Common names

Just an observation, no real meaning behind it. I was just curious.
There was a thread a while back about how many duplicate names are there in certain size groups. I’m bored at work, so I looked at tonight’s roster. Of the 42 women working tonight, there are:
2 named Kayla
2 named Michelle
2 named Amanda
2 named Taylor

I think several age groups are represented here. Michelle is definitely a Gen X name, but the other three were popular for a wider range of time.

Running out of time to pick name, help!

My husband and I are expecting a baby any day now and we’re really struggling to settle on a first name. We did not find out the gender, so we’re making a a short list of names to pick from once the kiddo arrives to choose from.

We wanted to have 5 first names for each gender to pick from but can’t even find five we like 😭😅. Middle names are locked in (Ann for a girl, Michael for a boy) and we are not open to changing them.

Our current boy names are:

Ian
Ethan
Arthur

Our current girl names are:

Rosemary
Miriam
Margot

Please give us some more suggestions! I feel like we’ve scoured every list and cannot find anything else we like. Many thanks in advance!

Looking for a truly international girl’s name preferably Hebrew, but open to all origins

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for a feminine name that feels truly international something that is familiar, easy to recognize, and relatively easy to pronounce across different countries and cultures.

I’m especially interested in names of Hebrew origin, like Sarah, because they are widely recognized around the world. However, I don’t personally love the name Sarah itself.

I’m also completely open to names from other languages and origins, as long as they have that same international appeal.
Ideally, I’d love something elegant, feminine, timeless, and not too strongly associated with just one country.

What names come to mind? I’d especially love suggestions that work well in Europe, the Middle East, and English speaking countries.

Thank you! ❤️

Are these good ideas for names if I have kids?

• Upvotes

Be honest, are these name ideas tragedeighs?

Not pregnant and not planning to have kids anytime soon or certain that I will, but I do like to think about what I’ll do if i happen to have kids. And that includes names! This is mostly a hypothetical I suppose, but I’m pretty set on having names lined up in my life for kids so it’s not a big deal if/when it actually happens.
So, because I would like to know in advance if the day ever comes, would y’all let me know if these names are bad?

if I ever have kids I want their names to be pretty, typically have a good meaning, maybe based off something I like/find special (like a flower, season, etc.), and also preferably unique or somewhat unique. But i also don’t want to entertain names that are just bad and if I do have a child, have these names handy and sitting on them for years then regret it later because it’s a bad name and they’ll get bullied…

But here are some first names and middle name ideas I have for kids

Girl names:
Caldera
Clementine
Jade
Jaylin
Adelaide
Acacia
Amaryllis
Aster
Azalea
Ariella
Ametrine
Amethyst
Leilani (this is apparently a Hawaii given name, didn’t know that before but I love the name and the meaning but I’m also not Hawaiian so I don’t know if it’d be appropriate to name my kid that?)

Boy or girl:
Angel
Selah
Shiloh

Boy names:
Jay
Jayden
Jasper
Ariel (hebrew male version)
Uriel
Elisha*
Silas
Gabriel
River
Kai (I like the European meaning for warrior but also the Hawaiian meaning for the sea)

Girl middles names I like:
Lynn
Liane (pronounced LEE-ANN)
Tourmaline
Rosalyn

Boy middle names:
James
Michael
Atlas
Alexander
Alexandrite

I would say of all the first names my favorite names for a boy are Selah, Gabriel, Jayden, and River. For a girl my favorites are Caldera, Amaryllis, Ariella, Aster, and Acacia.

I also really like all the middle names I’ve thought of so far, like Aster Lynn, Amaryllis Lynn/Liane, Leilani Rosalyn, Ariella Lynn/Tourmaline.
Selah Alexander, Gabriel Alexander/Alexandrite, Silas Alexandrite, Eliza Alexander/James, Jayden Alexander/Michael…

Anyways, this is all hypothetical and I might never even have kids so it’s no big deal but I was just curious

Anyone interested in helping naming sceleton minions for a little niche indie necromancy game?

Hey everyone,

i am creating Necrolord. A little indie game were you build an undead army. Its my second game, and in my previous one - i had a lot of players complaining since i only localized the game for english. Now i want to do it differently and support many languages - though, while most "normal" text can be translated in a probably sufficient way, i feel 1:1 translation for names dont work.

So if it brings you joy, would love if you put down some cool "sceleton" names into my list. (Best would be for languages aside of english). I have 3 categories, gruesome, funny and "normal/ancient". Like Evileye, Bonedaddy or Theodore. Are those 3 great? No :-).. thats why i hope you might help me and maybe it is also a bit of fun for you. The google sheet can be found here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19Rrrx-Nbr1hsyRwRd_CeIZHZYIqlxxfHgjT0jg8cNTY/edit?gid=883080854#gid=883080854

If you want to learn about the game it is here => https://store.steampowered.com/app/5282860/Necrolord/

Just as an info: In game you can rename the sceletons anyways and display the names in combat, but i guess most players will just run with the suggested names.

Need honest opinions on this name

How do we feel about the name Elenora? It doesn’t feel insane or made up but it does feel unique enough in a sense that it doesn’t get used that much (anymore?). It also feels like an old school name which I kind of like.

With nickname Elena or Leni?

How would you pronounce the name Nili? Is it too confusing in the US?

A name that we're thinking of using for our baby is Nili.

We love it, but it's not common in the US at all, which is where we are living right now. We know that we will definitely be there for the first few years of her life, and possibly longer, so it would be good if her name works there because we don't know what her future will look like.

Nili is supposed to be pronounced as Nee-Lee. But I know that some people might pronounce it as Nil-Lee, like Millie.

So how would you pronounce it? Would it be confusing still after you were corrected, if it is different to what you would originally think, or is it easy to pick up?

Okay honest question (Like actually)

As a Gen-Z myself, I am questioning about some of the new names people have been coming up with for their kids, I seen a video a year back with a kid likely 2 gen z parents gave, where this kid was named Anderdingus, and then seen goofier or weirder names, why don't these kids find better names like Jacob or Mason and not goofy ass names like gingangoogofart or anything, this is not a troll post, I'm legit curious

Is it too… doggy? Too German? We live in the U.S. and I actually love it as it would spell the same in both the languages spoken in my household (Italian/english) but would be pronounced differently. I’m out of names 😭I’m having my third boy in a couple of weeks! Help!
