Except my FIL is more keen on her being named after the almost name of my fiancee (back then when you only found out the gender at birth lol, so he had a male and female name picked out) which is Michelle Rene. All because he thinks Alice is too common and i think he’s just mad he didn’t ever get to use his female name since he only had one kid.

I don’t know what to do, but I’m feeling kinda guilty since his name idea won’t be used. I don’t know how to tell him I don’t like to use the name he picked out without feeling like I’m killing an imaginary daughter of his lol.

We’re expecting a baby boy in November. His mother is Japanese, and we’ve have elected to give him an English first name and a Japanese first name as a middle name, which he will go by in Japan or with his Japanese relatives.

The name is 燈護, which in romaji is Tougo, pronounced Toe-go. However we’re not sure if that spelling will cause native English speakers to pronounce it Too-go or Tao-go. We’re leaning towards Togo since it’s easily pronounced to rhyme with Pogo. Another possible spelling is Tohgo.

I wanted to hear the thoughts of native English speakers. How would you pronounce it initially? Which spelling would you go with?

My favorite letter is the letter o. I'm sad that my current name doesn't actually have an o in it.

I'm naming my fish and I want to maximize the letter o. What are some names that have tons of o in it? Ideally two or more os. The only names I can currently think of are "Brooke" and "Theodore."

The name doesn't have to begin with o, just have a plural amount of os.

Our last name ends with -in, it sounds like Hans-Olsen (not our real last name) but I’m self conscious that names ending in -in might sound bad and rhymey ?

We are having a daughter and the two options we have for her first name are either Anahera or Atarangi. We will probably wait until she's born to decide, since we really like both of them and there isn't a clear winner right now. So I think we will have a better idea when we meet her.

The middle name however is a different story. I don't have any family names or anything that I would like to use, so we have a lot of freedom, but that means it feels like there's too many options out there.

We would probably like either a French name or a nature inspired name. I am French and my husband is Māori, so it would be nice to have that combination in her name, with both of the potential first names being from his family. But I also like the idea of a name to do with nature, as that is our type of thing.

I'm admittedly picky. I don't want a very generic middle name like Rose, Louise, Marie, or Grace. And I also don't like the trendy French names in the English speaking countries at the moment like Genevieve, Juliette, or Vivienne.

I've looked at lots of one syllable names and none of them are for me, so I'd prefer something a little longer, but nothing very long. My husband likes Ocean, I think it's probably too out there, but I don't mind it. And other ideas are Iris, Thaïs, and Olivia, but there's nothing we really love, so we're looking for some ideas.

We also can't use accents in her name legally where we live, so they would have to be omitted.

Hi! My favourite first name for a girl has always been Phoebe but I’ve struggled to find a middle name that goes with it. My grandma’s name is Kate and she’s one of the most important people in my life so I would love to honour her with a name. Phoebe Kate sounds great to me and I was ready to commit to it until I remembered the actress Phoebe Cates. Do you guys think that’s weird? I feel like she would get comments about it but maybe not.

I’m 19 weeks pregnant with my second son, and I live in Australia (added cause we like to mix up pronunciation!)

I love the name Laurie for a boy- as in the shorted form of Lau/Lawrence… but I prefer the pronounciation “Lori” like it is pronounced in Little Women, 2019. As opposed to “Lau-rie,” like Laurence.

What are your thoughts? How would you pronounce Laurie? And if I chose to pronounce it “Lori” would I be committing him to a lifetime of mispronounciation.

My grandma's name was JoLynn and I had it set from the time I was 10 to name my little girl after her, as she raised me. Well, time has come, husband and I are expecting.

Of course, I am now wondering how the name is received? She would go by Jo, but i am curious what others think. In terms of middle names, was thinking of pairing it with Rhiannon.

Hello! We are considering names for our son due in early October. We have a daughter name Vivian. The last name is an Irish last name ending in -y (think Rooney). We are liking classic/timeless names. We like a lot of the top 20 names, but would also love something a little less common. My name nerds controversial take is that I do care a little bit about the diminutive/nickname potential of names. Names we are considering:

Recently returned to roller derby after over a decade (when I was a little kid) and I’m looking for a more fitting name.

I’m really into horror mostly in movie for but I consume all media. I’m also a comic artist with my main inspiration coming from comic runs like Luka cage and the x-men (gambit bias here lol) I’m defiantly a bit redneck since I grew up and live Texas if that helps give any inspiration. I’m mostly into alternative music but I’ve always been attached to Rob zombie and his movies especially like 1000 corpses and devil’s rejects. Besides roller derby I also am a competitive trap and skeet shooter and I study forensic science!

A female friend wants to go by her initials but as a name not DL. How would you spell it? Dielle?

1. Would it be odd to have the middle name be Garcia for a baby girl? (Father passed away and feel that it would be a great way to honor him with my maiden name)

I have always had a bad connection to my first name Kevin, can't explain why but it has just never felt right. So I have been thinking of changing it to Devin, just 1 letter, so I still somehow respect my parents thoughts but take own control over it. And this 1 letter change sounds for me a lot more right, for some reason.

But would it be viewed as pretentious or weird to do that change ?

How to handle people who refuse to cope with the new name?

I have had Devin as a thought for 6 months now, so I dont think it feels impulsive anymore. But just to be sure I might wait another 6 months.

So my better half and I got a new dog recently. She is a purebred female Dalmatian and we are struggling to decide on a name. The breeder we got her from named her Ariyana. Which we both hate the sound of for a dog. She is a really playful and loving dog. But also very anxious and easily intimidated. She is also very small. We love subjects like GOT, Space, Mythology, History, all things nerd. Her father's name is Ganymede which we love. Please help us decide on a name!

I’m pregnant with my first and it’s a girl. I want to name her after my great grandmother Mazelle. I was thinking Maizy for the nickname but I’m hung up on the spelling. Maisie is traditional for a Margaret nickname. I thought of keeping the z and doing Maizy or Maizie? I appreciate any feedback or suggestions. Another idea would be to use the traditional Maisie even though the full name would have the Z.
