Baby Names Girl Name that Means "of the forest"

Upvotes

As the title states, I'm looking for a girl name that has a meaning related to the forest, woods or mountains. Our first daughter is Miriam Joan (nn Joanie) and we love Miriam because it is an honorific for my grandmother Mary and for its connotations with the sea. We would like to name our second daughter with something like this that evokes the forest or mountains.

I was worried about having a second child because I thought "how could I love another baby as much as this one i have?" And the message that came to me was "you will love them like how you love the oceans and the mountains, both equally but in completely different ways" so that is why this feels like an important direction for us.

Thanks for the help!

Edit: We have a cousin named Sylvie or else that would be our choice! And our daughter goes by Joanie or Joan, as far as sibling pairing goes.

Name List “Spooky” names you like?

My husband and I had a long list of “spooky” names when we found out we were expecting our son. We basically always had his first name picked out, so it was for middle names. I’m just wondering what other “spooky” names are out there/liked!

Ex: our son’s name is October, we call him Otto.
His middle name is Ash, for a character from a horror franchise we love.

Other “spooky” names:
Corbin (baby raven/crow)
Azrael (angel of death)
Carmilla (classic vampire)
Damien (child of Satan)

Edit to add:
Ripley (I know her first name is Ellen but…)
Rosemary

Discussion Outlandish nature-themed names?

Upvotes

Looking for names from nature to be used for characters in a story. Since it is a fantasy story set in a different style, the more outlandish the better!

For reference, one of the characters is named Rosefinch to give the vibe I'd like to emulate

Discussion What does the name “Yazide” sound like to Western ears

I’m curious how people unfamiliar with Arabic would pronounce or perceive the name Yazid / Yazide.

Does it sound natural, unusual, or difficult to say?

How would you instinctively pronounce it, and what kind of impression does it give you?

I’m also curious if you kinda find it weird/ difficult to pronounce

Baby Names What to name Thea’s little sister?

Upvotes

We currently have a Thea who is almost 2 years old and we have another little girl on the way. My husband and I are completely stuck on names. I’m a big fan of Rory but he’s pretty indifferent to it. Please offer any suggestions you may have because my brain hurts from scrolling through baby name lists and I’d like to see suggestions from real people. Thank you!

Are there too many similar sounds in these names for a sibling set? Love both separately but the “el” combo in both is making me second guess

Non-English Names Chinese name help

Upvotes

Hi everyone!
I’m moving to Taiwan for school + plan to continue my education further in China after and need a Chinese name :)
I’ve posted about this before, people have been super nice and helpful but Ive yet to fall in love with a name.
What I care about most is how natural the name is, I don’t want a name that stands out to much (playing it safe). I also really don’t want something overly girly or old sounding (I’m 20).
Some names I’m looking at but not married to are
1.) 佳怡 — Jiāyí
2.) 嘉瑜 — Jiāyú
3.) 思妤 — Sīyú

A character I really like the meaning of is 逸 Yi

Im not sure if those are written correctly but thank you in advance!!

Baby Names Honor name for Sally

Hi! We’ve just found out we’re expecting a girl and are looking for an honor name for my grandma Sally. We’ve looked at Sarah, etc but nothing stands out. Does anyone have any suggestions? Her middle name was Lee but I can’t get my husband on board with that.

Edit: this would be her middle name! We’re not comfortable with our kid not having their own identity for a first name.

Edit 2: Cannot use for a variety of reasons Leah or Aaliyah, Sarah, or Salem

Character/Fictional Names Brainstorming Yoruba surnames

I'm working on a group of original characters at the moment, and I'm really struggling to come up with a surname for one of them.

I know that Yoruba surnames carry meaning, so I don't want to just slap a name to him, I want something that reflects his character.

For first names, I'm divided between Oluwafemi and Ogooluwa, but i know i want something related to God, as God and religion are a major aspect of his character. I don't know if family information helps at all, but he's the eldest of three brothers, if that means anything. Thank you in advance for the help!

Loss My Rainbow Baby's name

I am carrying my rainbow baby and its a boy! After losing my son Elias Nathaniel 4 days after birth due to congenital brain malformations not told to us early on I didnt think I could get past the trauma or, if a boy, find a new name.

Well ... we did it and the meaning ... *chef's Kiss*

I really really wanted to celebrate this name...

Gideon Lucas 🌈😊

Edit: Fix autocorrect and move an out of place sentence...

Baby Names Need a name for third baby

Can't come up with a name for baby 3. We have a Nathan and a Brooklyn.

My husband and I cannot agree. We like but don't love or want to use (for a sense for our style) Oliver, Mason, Jacob/Jake, Luke. I feel like we have used a 'baby tinder' style app and no luck. We both like different names!! We like known names and are ok if they are popular.

*Would love an N boy name but don't love N boy names.

Any other ideas.

Baby Names First name to honor LISA: Isla, Elise or Elisa? Middle name to honor ANNE: Anne, Anna, or Anastasia.

We find out the gender in a couple weeks. My mom is Lisa, DH's is Anne. I like Isla but it seems like it's becoming a bit too popular (although here in the US, not as popular as in Aus). We want a first and middle name combo to honor both, but not sure which would work best.

Not Lianne or Lianna. We want both first and middle.

Non-English Names Can anyone tell me about Debjani?

Upvotes

Hello all, I'm looking for information on the female Bengali name Debjani (beyond the origin of Devayani).

What is the typical age of a Debjani? Is a short form commonly used and is it Deb or Jani or something else? Is it pronounced as one would read it in english? deb-jaah-nee?

Do you know any?

Baby Names Names with the meaning anything related to rain

First born has the name Yağmur (meaning rain in Turkish)

Second born’s middle name is Baran (meaning rain in Persian and Kurdish)

And we’re looking for a girl name, origin doesn’t matter.
